Wow, that's a tough one. I'm not going to go with any of my favorite bands, I'm not going to go with the easy picks (Beatles, Zepellin) I'm not going to bow down to the overwhelming consensus on these boards (MOAR RUSH!!!!!).

I'd say-

The Eagles

The Eagles? Seriously? I know I could never pick out the best band ever, but both the James Gang and Joe Walsh solo would beat out the Eagles, in my opinion.

i've adopted the mountain goats as my favorite band...
i can listen to their albums no matter what mood i'm in and i've been a fan for almost 10 years and have a pretty obsessive collection of records, bootlegs, and have seen them live three times.

Just to clarify....

I was trying to be subjective when I mentioned the Eagles. Record sales wise, they are up there. All, or most of their members had some level of success as solo acts.

My own personal favorite band is a tie between Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pink Floyd. :)

No, it was "I've had a rough night and I hate the f***ing Eagles!" I would know since I quote it all the time whenever they come on the radio, haha. (Oh, I don't hate them, really. I just love quoting the movie, haha).

Best band ever? Frank Zappa. He had consistently original and great material. His social parody was hilarious, his musicmanship was superb, his songwriting was godly and he kept it up with a diverse library of music, including jazz, doo wop, blues, rock, etc...

I assume the album your talking about is Sheer Heart Attack and the songs are "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Big Bad Leroy Brown", respectively? Great album, by the way. Queen was my favorite for a loooong time, but then my spectrum broadened and I'm particularly unsure now. There are too many bands I consider among my favorites to even begin listing all of them. I can say for sure that after Queen and up until about 3 years ago, it was King's X. Now I'm not so sure.

I keep my favorite bands from the catagory of BEST bands of all time.

I would say the BEST band of all time would be either The Beatles, Rolling Stones, or Jimi Hendrix Experience.

For my favorite bands, I'd call the Who, AC/DC, Weezer, and Nirvana.
