View Full Version : Best Buy/Wal-mart question

I was foolish enough not to pre-order RB, so now I'm pretty much left on a scavenger hunt come release day. My questions pertain to Best Buy and Wal-mart.
I have a Best Buy pretty close to me that is having a midnight release for the game. It's first come first serve right(well as long as you get out there in line early enough)? Or did they offer pre-orders?
And as for Wal-mart, are they selling the whole bundle or just the disc itself? And since most of their stores are open 24 hours, they too should be selling at midnight correct?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

From what I understand, Best Buy's normal way of handling midnight releases is that you show up at like 8:30 and form a line, then around 9 then hand out vouchers. If you get a voucher you can leave and just come back when they open at midnight and you are guaranteed one.
Walmart should have both the bundle and the game alone. I guess it depends on how diligent they are with putting stuff out, but as long as they have it in stock you theoretically should be able to convince a 24 hour Walmart to sell it to you after midnight.

Anyone have any Wal-mart information in your areas? I'm considering making a trek from Canada across the border to Houlton, ME early morning on the 20th. Aside from calling them to see if they will have any in on the 19th, does anyone have any pre-order information for Wal-Mart?
I would appreciate it!

Best Buys don't all follow the same procedures. What admanimal just described is how the organized stores with intelligent GMs operate. The less organized end up with trampled customers (it has happened).

Walmart doesn't accept pre-orders.

Ah, true. I don't believe they do in store though.

If you order Rock Band from Wal-Mart's website, you won't get it until a week after the release date and that's if any are left. You're better off just going down there that night about 9:00 or so and asking if they are putting out at midnight (which they did with Call of Duty 4, Guitar Hero III, and other big sellers) so I'd assume they are doing the same, Monday November 19th

Where in the store are such lines formed at Best Buy?

It's going to depend on the store, but they are usually formed -outside- the store by the main entrance. Best thing to do is ask someone so you don't end up being first in the wrong line.

Awesome, thanks. I was wondering when I went to the midnight opening for Guitar Hero III and saw a line for "pre-orders." I was like, "What the f**k is this sh*t?"

The wal-mart in Houlton isn't a 24 hour one, pretty small considering. I think they close at 10pm. My plan is to call them on the 19th to see if they have any they are putting out for 8am the next morning. If they are, then I am high-tailing it from Canada at 6am on the 20th to make it before they open at 8 and hope there isn't a huge lineup already at the door.

Good advice, and today I went into Best Buy and did just that. She said that they haven't taken any pre-orders, and that supposedly they were getting in a boatload of bundles for the 360(lucky for me), somewere close to 100. I questioned that figure, but she showed me the info on the computer and assured me that they'll have them there in time for the midnight launch.
She said to be safe, get there around 8-8:30 ish, and wait and stay warm in your car. Then if a line starts forming, get your butt out there with them....
Hopefully all goes according to plan. I can't wait to blast away on Detroit Rock City....
