I'm actually Christian, but this just seems kinda weird.
This part confuses me:
A PowerDuel mode, borrowed from Guitar Hero III, will let players deliver "surprises" that will affect their opponent's performance.
Should you really be preventing your opponent from shredding for the Lord? :)

The notes should have been crosses...
Or... the notes should have been little demons and every time you hit a note they should explode but if you miss a note Satan should jump out at you.
But I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed for the Pastafarian version. I bet the FSM can really shred with all of those noodley appendages!

Negative. There won't be a rock meter since failing would be the fault of Satan. The solos will have no notes so that the players will have time to close their eyes and raise their hands.

On a serious note, I'm glad that those who wanted to play more Christian/family-friendly songs will now finally have a game of their own (assuming this isn't a spoof).
And no, not just because it will hopefully cause a decrease in religion flamefests in Ultimate setlists... :D

Spirit in the sky is song that really kinda pokes fun at gospel music, it was written and preformed by a jewish dude. He decided to use "jesus" instead of one of the names of G-d because "it would sell more" lol
The other songs have christian/religious imagery but I really don't think the artist would call them Christian songs. There are no "christian songs" in Rock Band.

LOL, this is just proof that everything that has the term "Christian" in it is just a blatant rip-off of something secular that is popular with the kids. Since all religions steal ideas from previous religions, it's not really a surprise now is it?
The last Christian work with any real imagination and creativity must have been Dante's Divine Comedy.

Dante is/was said to be influenced heavily by Islamic philosphy and the divine comedy has quite a few similarities with Islamic thoughts at that time. So while creative he may have been just as bad a rip off artist.

No Tourniquet either. They're a good Christian prog metal band also.
Of course, if there was a Christian equivalent of Rock Band, we'd have to see something like either Demon Hunter or Zao... metal drumming is always welcome (and Zao's lyrics are so incomprehensible through the death growls that it's difficult to make heads or tails of them sometimes... although many of their songs aren't as "Christian" on their face as most of the groups listed in this game's songlist).

The system specs:
Surprisingly the requirements to run the game are really low: it requires merely a 1ghz processor, 650MB of HDD space, and a 32MB graphics card. If I didn't know that it required Windows XP I would have assumed it would run on, say, a calculator or modern microwave.

I like Broken by 12 Stones. Don't know any of the other songs on there unless Blind Man is an Aerosmith cover and Rock of Ages is a Def Leppard cover but I'm not Christian anyway. 08-28-2008, 10:03 AM
I just think it is funny there is Thousand Foot Krutch and Skillet on the same song list as Chris Tomlin and David Crowder.
Tomlin and Crowder write songs that many contemporary churches sing on Sunday morning. Crowder is an amazing musician, and people like Tomlin because he has good theology (despite somewhat watered down songs).
Anyway, those guys are just opposite ends of the spectrum from Skillet or Thousand Foot Krutch. Granted the latter are not exactly the heaviest bands out there. August Burns Red is probably the heaviest Christian band I have seen/listened to, though I doubt it is the heaviest out there. Either way, I guess metalcore scares mommy and daddy away.
And finally, any Christian music game without Stryper is fail.

There's big money in Christian marketing becasue of all the parents who don't trust the weekly sermons to teach the kids what's right and wrong.

08-28-2008, 10:46 AM
I think for a lot of us, we wrote off Christian rock without any kind of a fair trial. One closer examination, it's a pretty diverse field, with all the genres represented. Like "secular" music, a lot of it (dare I say even a majority of it?) is crap as per Sturgeon's Law. But people who write it off show either their ignorance of it or the fact that bottom line they aren't prepared to take a chance on liking music which has an explicit or implicit agenda they don't buy into. In this, they are, imnhso, exactly like the Christians they denigrate.
Now, if you want to talk about "softer" Christian groups (i.e. not the praise and worship guys but rock musicians who just happen to be Christians), you have to put a bit more water in your wine. Start by seeing if you can tear down U2's rock credentials, and if you manage that, let me know, and I'll see what other ones I can find you.
