View Full Version : RB Preorder DROPPED by Gamecrazy - a sob story.

This is a story about a guy named Cory (me) who preordered Rock Band back in August.

Anyway...I put five bucks on my RB preorder (enough to keep my foot in the door and say "hey, I've got it preordered"), right? At that point, I was satisfied because I then had Rock Band preordered, and no longer had to worry about not getting a copy.

Meanwhile, in the months to follow, I didn't check up on my preorder because I'm a faithful customer who trusts Gamecrazy not to fck him over. Was I right to trust them? Just wait til you hear this.

Somewhere around November 4th, I went into Gamecrazy to buy Orange Box. I began talking about Rock Band to a kid who works there who I talk to regularly. He asked me if I'd preordered it, and I told him "yeah, I put 5 bucks down." He sighed, rolled his eyes, and turned at me like he was going to inform me of some bad news.

In the minutes to follow, he explained to me that the store raised the preorder price to 25 dollars. All those who had preordered beforehand and didn't have more than 25 bucks on it got cancelled. So basically, only the people who were on the inside and knew what was going on had a fair chance. I was left out, on the outside, along with a few others I'm sure. I had this thing preordered twice as long as half the people on the preorder list, and I got dicked over and shoved aside.

So now, I no longer have RB preordered, and probobly won't get it for a looong time.
Here's to Gamecrazy *grabs ankles*

That's a low blow man, I feel your pain.

Midnight camp-out on release not a possibility?

That sucks so bad, man. My GameCrazy called me and told me that I had 48 hours to up it from 5 to 25. Thats terrible that they didn't even let you know.

That truly, deeply sucks. When I pre-ordered at Gamestop, I too put down $5. However, they let me upgrade to the $25 just last week. I'd never even heard of Gamecrazy before coming on these forums, so I don't know about their policies, but I can't believe any retailer would screw their customers like this.

No midnight release. and nope, they didn't call me.

The guys who work there all want the game I'm sure, so why would they let me know? An obstacle easily removed without lifting a finger.

Yeah, outside of one guy I knew from elementary school they seem to be a little slow on the uptake. Even worse than your average GameStop employee (no offense McDeezy :D )

They constantly switch my pre-orders to 360 even though I tell them everytime it's a PS3. Then one time I got angry, and now they call me the "PS3 guy"

Well, hopefully if you show up really early at a Wal-Mart or Best Buy, you'll be able to get one. Don't give up hope!

I've pre-ordered, but I've also been invited to a camp out at midnight, so I could in theory get an extra bundle.

Would you be interested in such a thing? The only downside is you'd have to worry about shipping cost.

This is all theoretical of course, but I could put in the effort and try.

I'm not sure I understand...

You still have time to preorder it. So, what exactly are you fretting about?

Most places have ceased accepting pre-orders for some time.

Ohh, I see.

What about amazon? It says you won't get it until mid-December, but they are fast with deliveries. You can make it so it is shipped one day from the point of availability. It costs an extra fifteen bucks though.

It's either that or eBay.

Actually, I just checked Amazon and it says RockBand is $250.
It didn't say that when I preordered it.

Wow that sucks. Sorry man. I'm a little worried about my own pre-order after hearing this. I pre-ordered back before it was in their system and the guy said he only needed $5 dollars. This was at EB Games in Canada. Now that it's in their system I hope they don't dick me out of my pre-order, I haven't received any call to warn me so I doubt it. But this thread gave me something to think about.

So uh what happens to your 5 dollars?

I wouldn't of left until I was in their system for Rock Band or I had 5 dollars and the blood of the employees on my hand.

Look at their pre-order policy. You should be able to get something out of this. Either they broke their own policy by taking your money but not reserving a copy, or they broke their policy by not telling you they canceled due to their mistake. Escalate to a manager or regional manager if you need to.

Basically, if you have a piece of paper that says you have a copy reserved, they are probably breaking that contract if they canceled on you. Good luck, and godspeed!

Common sense (a misnormer) would say that GC should have called you and given you the option instead of just canceling it outright. I'd complain to the manager or something. That's incredibly unbusiness-like behavior.

same thing happened to me...iunno if i was dropped, but i only put $5 on (cause that is what i was told was the min).

i went in the other day and the manager said everyone who paid $25 would get one.

Luckily i used to work at that store and he said he'll make sure i get one. So here's hoping they have at least 1 extra.

Im gonna go in there on Thursday and see when they think they are gonna get their shipment and then confirm if i have one. If i dont...looks like i'll hit up the 24 hour wal-mart and camp for a few hours.

I THINK THE MORAL TO THIS STORY IS NEVER TAKE ANYTHING THING FOR GRANTED!! LIKE A NOV 20th LAUNCH DATE FOR CANADIANS.... ZING...........

I can't help but laugh and cry at that statement. That sucks though, hopefully you can find a copy. I'd call a bunch of stores and see if any will still accept a preorder.

Very sorry to hear that, parastroke7. I'll tell you, though, that's wierd.

I work at a Gamecrazy myself, and that's not how we did it at our store. We do not cancel anyone's wishlists, preorders, or special orders. When we got the news that the bundle would be a $25 preorder, anyone that preordered before would still get theirs. That preorder is tied to your account even if you get your $5 back, unless we manually go into it and delete the order, which can be a pain finding out who all has it ordered. Seems strange that they would take the time to do that, and of course if they're going to be that strict, they SHOULD have called you and gave you time to upgrade. We still have customers with $5 on it from before, and I'm making sure they get it whether the company likes it or not. I still have 5 on it myself since I was the first to order the day it went in the system, and know a few others as well.

This kind of stuff really upsets me. While my coworkers are nice and great, a couple of them still do things that irritate me, like hearing a rumor then telling EVERYONE as if it's fact (for example, a couple of them are blowing Mass Effect WAY out of proportion, and while I think it will be great, they are just telling everyone things about it that just aren't true.), and sometimes they don't respect customers opinions.

Back on topic, though. I truly hope that you have better experiences with them. And while some game stores and the employees in general have a bad reputation, please remember there are still some good ones out here.

In the great past, I worked in a retail game store. My best advice is to take it up with a manager. And then demand to take it up further to a regional manager (or the Gamecrazy equivalent). They accepted your preorder and didn't notify you of changes to the requirements. Make a big fuss with regional management (and, seriously, if you can't get your point to the regional manager, ask for the next step up).

Go high enough, with even a the slightest backing (they accepted your original preorder), they will go out of their way to fulfill their end of the original bargain.

I'm typically a very passive guy because when I make a ruckus, it usually gets turned around on me and makes things worse.

and Apples, I appreciate your generousity, but I think I'll just tough it out until I stumble upon a bundle that just happens to be waiting for me.

As for the crooked-ass Gamecrazy fools...I think they'll get what they have coming. Hopefully.

I understand where you're coming from. I hate raising fits over things. But, I mean it when I say if you escalate it to the regional manager, you will most likely get your game as timely as possible for that store. (Their initial shipments might be gone, but the second a new shipment comes in, the first one will be yours.)

my gamecrazy did me wrong a few times like this........so a month ago i pulled $150 worth of pre-orders.

I almost made the manager cry.....ill never go back to that poor excuse for a store.

Damn man this is very unfortunate. I on the other hand had this happen to me once at EBGames back in the day and ever since then even when I reserved a game (although I usually always pay in full) I would call once a month at least to make sure nothing had changed and all was well with my reserve. Sorry to hear what happened to you man

Agreed. Regional management won't let something like this go down. If you aren't one to raise a fuss, that's even better. The calmer they are, the more likely they are to help you.

If you need a bargaining chip, tell them that you'll just post the story on the internet and tell people not to buy stuff there. That should scare them.

Seriously, Coming from someone that has worked many times in retail. Call corporate. Don't send an email, call them while you are in the store. Don't leave until you get what you want. Once you get someone from corporate to guarantee you a copy on release day, let him talk with the store manager. Get a case number. If they screw you again, demand the game for free. You don't have to get upset, just stay calm, reason with them, make your case, and you will get what you want. If you don't get it. I will probably buy another game if possible, just IM me and I will sell you the second copy for what I paid.

Wow, GameCrazy weren't a bunch of prats to me this time around.

I called them up to check on my preorder. They recognized me by name and said that even though I only had $20 down and they bumped it up to $25 (that's confirmation, btw) that they discussed my case brefore, and were going to honor my preorder and there'd be no problems. PHEW.

Still... anybody who did the GameCrazy pawn shop shuffle should probably verify. It is pretty stupid that they'd cancel people without warning.
