The whole madden track pack gave me hope since "Mirror's Truth" was in it, but that never came to be...

im not sure how i forgot about bodom. im seeing them in october, how did i miss that? lol and yeah arch enemy isnt too bad. ive never heard of norther but ill check em out. people will most likely disagree about calling dd melodeath. i personally consider them groove metal but i still love em.

Dark Tranquility plz. They quickly became my favorite band after first hearing them. Fiction was a bad ass album. Then every album i have found after that I have loved. Focus Shift, The New Build, and Punish My Heaven would be awesome. Hell, the whole albums that these tracks are from would be great. These dudes know how to write good music.
As for more At The Gates, pretty much any more, if not all the songs of Slaughter of the Soul would be fine by me. I lsten to that album over and over and over. Cold would probably be my favorite song to play.Haven't really llistened to any other albums but Slaughter. I guess is hould check more out.

If In Flames doesn't make it into RB we aren't going to see any more mdm in RB at all. At the Gates, how did they make it into the game I wonder? I would like to see Insomnium but that is probably never happening.

I suggested it in another thread, but my Melodeath 3-pack:
In Flames - Behind Space '99
Dark Tranquillity - Of Chaos and Eternal Night
At the Gates - The Beautiful Wound
On Children of Bodom. They're borderline to me, they have a lot of Power Metal characteristics (particularly in the keys). Additionally, their first two albums were pretty clear-cut Melodic Black Metal. Their latest several don't really fit clearly into any sub-genre though, so I don't object to claims of Melodeath.
Arch Enemy is another borderline band, who show about as many characteristics from straight up Death metal and thrash as they do to melodeath.
Counting some "borderline" bands, I'd love to see some [old] In Flames, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity (the real DT in my book ;)), Amon Amarth, Arsis, Children of Bodom, and Arch Enemy.

How exactly were the first two Black Metal? There's no keys that are specifically a trademark to one genre, so that isn't very valid.

Melodic Black Metal, ala Dimmu Borgir, Rotting Christ, and Wintersun.
From wiki:
"Melodic black metal is a style of black metal. Much of the characteristics of "traditional" black metal are retained (shrieked vocals, fast tempos, high pitched electric guitars often played with tremolo picking) but it differs in several key elements. Generally it is less abrasive, more melodic and thus more accessible for mainstream audiences. Electric guitars are often played with much less distortion and guitar solos are more common. Songs are often written in conventional structures and there is more usage of keyboards and other instruments."
The vocals on the first two albums were pretty clearly Black Metal, the keys (aside of solos) were backing the guitars and adding a darker atmospheric touch. The guitars stayed in the upper ranges typically, similar to Black Metal as well. Plus Alexi has commented on how many of his influences were Black Metal bands.
As for more recent Children of Bodom, their keys are definitely more similar to Power Metal than Melodeath. Listen to how In Flames and DT use their keys, which is much slower and melodic (often repeating or building on previous melodies) than CoB. Children of Bodom keys let loose fast, sweeping, power metal key solos, and pave their own melodies independent of the guitar. The vocals are a cross between black and death metal. The guitars tend to be melodeath in their newer material though.

lolwut? The newer material doesn't really even sound like Melodeath. What's all this talk about Melodic Black Metal? I was under the impression that we referred to it as Symphonic Black Metal. Keys? Wait you're talking about the keyboard? The Something Wild, Hatebreeder, and Follow The Reaper albums give off a dark vibe but are definitely Melodeath albums. Listen to Insomnium to understand what I'm talking about, not the bigger Melodeath bands.

Amon Amarth would be a superb addition. Tattered banners and bloody flags, anyone? :D I doubt they will be added though, because some of the lyric can be deemed too offensive. Victorious March, for example. ;) Then again I don't know how sensitive HMX are about that. VM is an extreme example though. There are more modest songs aswell.

No, I'm talking about Melodic Black Metal, not Symphonic. Two different sub-genres. CoBs first two albums fit almost perfectly into Melodic Black.
I know what you're talking about, but the keyboards aren't really a true MeloDeath keyboard usage.
Anyway, Children of Bodom don't really fit well into any genre (unless you count "extreme power metal"). They have too many characteristics of too many different sub-genres. Can we agree on that?

One Word...
Carcass
the entire Heartwork Album is a Melodeath Masterpiece
Death is a notable mention too, Crystal Mountain would be amazing and a must have song for RB 3...
i love groove metal too, which is a close cousin to Melodeath ithink we need more Groove Metal Too im glad we finally get Lamb Of God this week, too band its one of their boringer songs prolly cuz its one of the only doable songs for RB drums.
oh and i like Norther but not really CoB so yeah, i just dont like his shrieks and screaming, its literally painful to my ears, and i listen to alot of metal, ive heard all the different vocals, and CoB's Vox are horrible, amazing Guitar, keyboards. ok drumming

If we get melo-death i don't want anything from Soilwork, In Flames, or any other over-played cliche melo-death band. Disarmonia Mundi would be cool. You guys mentioned some other cool ones as well like Diabolical Masquerede and Swallow the Sun, although Diabolical Masquerede is more Avant-Garde metal than melodic-death.
Nuff_Said has some melo-death mentions in his thread, plus some other really good metal stuff that a lot of you may or may not have heard of it. Mostly the latter.
