View Full Version : GHIII - Sh*tty Guitars + Experience

I gave GHIII the benefit of the doubt and decided to place my $100 onto it. Don't worry, because I have plenty for RB (a month ago I won $1000 on a lotto ticket) and I now truly regret buying GHIII.

I'll start with the guitars. At first, I thought it was awesome how it was wireless and you could take the neck off. Turns out this would be its downfall. Most of the buttons don't work, and I'm considering re-wiring the controller by taking it apart, just to see if it'll do anything.

As for the game itself, horrible experience I had. These new charts are ****ty. Since when is it "easier" to make solos have all strum notes (I play on expert, but my bros were complaining about this on hard and medium)? And also solos are rarely hammeron-able or pulloff-able, and they throw in such random strum notes during these solos to kill the entire thing. And to top it off, the achievements are extremely glitched! So people who suck are getting ones like "5 star all songs on expert".

The only positive aspect is the setlist, which features some pretty good tracks. Overall disappointing game. Anyone else agree?

QFT, we've heard enough of this. Also, my guitar has no issues, check the contacts. Furthermore, the solo's strum notes are (supposedly) based off of the way the song is actually played.

I disagree... I thought the charts were fun.. some good gems out there in the bonus tracks and it was a good challenge while it lasted but it was a lot easier than I expected... beat every song first try other than TTFaF and still only Raining Blood to 5* and I haven't really played all that much

I found GH3's method of putting strum notes in what would otherwise be a fully HO/PO phrase in GH1/2 was fresh and interesting. Also it seems to match up with how one actually plays the song. My complaint is the few GRAWWWW MME333TT444LLL!!! songs that are really painful to listen to and plain injurious to even attempt. Also I hear that you can't play the battle songs in quick play, which is a shame because I think Devil Went Down to Georgia is one such battle song.

I'm with ya d00d. I can't STAND the way they throw the HO/POs in there right in the middle of bad ass solos. It doesn't even feel or sound like it should be strummed half the time. Even if it is more realistic I really miss the way it used to be done with GH 2 :( I loved nailing that end solo in Lamb of God without even having to strum.

I didn't think GHIII was all bad, but I had a lot more fun with GHII. But I never beat Expert on GHII (still stuck on Freya)...I guess my 35 years have slowed my fingers down and my game time is limited with a wife and two kids. :)

O-blah-dee O-blah-dah! Bring on ROCK BAND!!

Black Sunshine, you're on notice.

Also, the main problem I have with the GH3 guitar is that the buttons are farther apart and my hands just don't feel right going for the chords so I've been using my GH2 guitar to play.

I won't play the game again in about 5 days anyways. But it was ok I guess, i can't say it didn't meet my expectations. Probably will never buy another one though.

Too bad that was totally unrealistic in relation to actual guitar playing.

I guess I'll add my 2c, even though I'm sure it's already been argued and counter-argued to death.

And honestly I just didn't enjoy playing a lot of the setlist. I know, I know, it's supposedly the best one there, and on paper that may be true... but something just didn't click like it did in GH2 (and I'm not talking the strum bar).

Like, both games have some crap songs, but GH3's seems so much more painful since it feels like everything is a 7 minute opus you're playing. I dunno if this is just perception, or if the songs really are longer or what. In fact, even the songs which are "not bad" start to grind after dragging on for too long.

And the note charts just don't seem as fun. I don't know if this is just due to a lot of the songs having boring riffs (actually it felt like the first half of the tracklist was just repeating chords 80% of the time).

I won't lie though, there is some extremely kickass songs in the game.. but I still was severely underwhelmed.
