I know we have large musician community on this board and i was wondering if anyone has done any work bands that we might know? Or are you friends with anyone in a band we might know?
Speaking for myself as a former studio hack I've played on lots of stuff and know quite a few folks. Here's some.
Auditioned for this band at one time but didn't get the gig:p
Hometown hero's Honeymoon Suite

Did some work for these guys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b31HkdMDHa4
Did some studio stuff for this album and a couple of one off show's for Helix which was an honor as I was big fan and they're pretty legendary in Canada

The bass player in Brighton Rock is good buddy. Lives about 5 minutes away from me at the moment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0usiaRFI3nM
I was pretty good friends with Darrel Dwarf of the Killer Dwarfs back in the day
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glLPSY84Dxk
Nick from Slick Toxic and I would cross path's quite often and would usually find time to hang together
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkBYTEyR7Uc
And one of best friend's younger brother was almost the drummer for Glass Tiger at one point, he was going to get the gig until they found out how young he was. He pretty much had the gig wrapped up based on his demo tape.

Not yet. Eventually. :(
I can't even imagine getting the chance to jam with Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris, and Nicko McBrain. That would be like the most ridiculous thing ever. I would die from happiness.

I've played with Liberty DiVitto (drummer with Billy Joel). I was also Michael Winslow's (of Police Academy fame) bass player for a year. That's about it. I met Zakk Wylde in my mall book store once...

I wish I could say I knew some. I kinda want to go out and work as a roadie for a year, but, being 16 and still in school, that won't happen any time soon.
My brother's also trying to get involved in the music industry, so hopefully I'll have a few connections.

I know alot of bands that I dont enjoy their music...
Hinder has parked their tour bus in my front yard and spent the night
A band called Sick Puppies has crasheds at the house as well
Another band called Revelation Theory has crashed here...
And weve had a few come party at the house(Shinedown, Theory od a Deadman, Seether)
If your wondering why:
My sister was a bartender at a bar where Seether practically got their start...They needed a PA for a tour they were doing with Evanescence and Shinedown...So she took the job...Since she was with them all the time, she end up becoming good friends with the guys from Shinedown and Amy Lee from Evanessance...
Months down the line, Amy Lee needs a PA for their tour and she goes with them....Since than shes worked with or met every band from the 2000s...
Shes got alot of connections and talks to the bands on the phone on a regular basis
Shes met all of the following, and got eiehter autographed drum sticks, guitar picks, or they signed their bar tab and gave it to me...
Tommy Lee
Hinder
Kid Rock
Linkin Park
3 Doors Down
Black Stone Cherry
Sick Puppies
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Saving Able
Seether
Shinedown
Rev. Theroy
Evanessance
And many many more...
Despit the fact I only like maybe 5 of the bands shes worked for/met...Its still pretty cool to have all this signed stuff...

I know a couple future famous musicians, but none at the moment. I played Halo 3 with the bassist for Underoath and made eye contact with the lead guitarist of The Red Chord, that's it.

A friend of mine in grade school was cousins with a guy in the Smithereens, and I still haven't listened to them yet.
I think Dave Holland used to live near my friend, not sure but the rumor was he used to drive a Stingray with the license plate of "HVY MTL" in Phoenix. Like I said not sure if that's true.

My uncle met Flea and Anthony Kiedis in a Ritz Carlton elevator once. He said Flea smelled like ****.
I don't go to shows with "big" bands, mostly because I don't care for them or don't want to waste alot of money. But the ones I do go to I will usually stay after and talk to the band. The most famous I've met I would say is the singer from Flyleaf. But I definitely don't really "know" any non-local bands.

I've saw Heart live before they were popular. You can really get to know them before they are popular. I actually had a nice discussion with the 2 girls. :)

Everyone in this thread dropped something....
So I guess I will too!
I used to put on shows for Hardcore and Metal bands and came to know a few of the bands pretty well. Most notably Despised Icon (on Century Media) stays with me and hangs out whenever they come through town. All good dudes but , I swear they play such heavy stuff to compensate for the fact that they're all short and french :)

I took bass lessons from the same teacher that taught Cliff Burton, and my old band played a show with The Matches. My dad's cousin is also married to the brother of one of the guys in the Deftones, I don't remember which one.

That's cool - I went to NYU for a film/theater double major. While I was there and doing some outside work too I got to meat a fair number of musicians - the one that was the luckiest/most amazing for me was Lou Reed. I had never been starstruck before that moment - even getting to met Scorcese which was another big thrill.

A friend got me talking with Jonathan Davis of Korn because he sent him some real guitar videos of mine and he really liked it, so I've got sort of a link with him.
