Hulk no smash...from NextGen (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7943&Itemid=2):

As Crytpic Studios began development of Marvel Universe, NCsoft decided it was best to outright buy Cryptic’s original superhero MMO, the NCsoft-published City of Heroes. Now Microsoft has decided cancel Marvel Universe, which leaves Cryptic with a nice chunk of change from the City of Heroes sell-off to develop a new IP.

Our source, who wished to remain anonymous, said that an official announcement will be made in a few weeks about the demise of the game, unless something “drastic” occurs.

As part of the NCsoft acquisition of the City of Heroes series, the MMO firm founded a new studio and brought in key Cryptic staffers Brian Clayton, Matt Miller, Aaron Brady and Ken Morse. NCsoft had nothing to do with actual cancellation of the game, according to our source, but as the firm plans to expand the City of Heroes MMO, it would seem like NCsoft would benefit from not having a high-profile Marvel superhero MMO to compete against.

Rumors of the cancellation originated from a 1Up podcast where EGM executive editor Shane Bettenhausen said that a big-name Microsoft first-party title would be cancelled. Without naming the specific game, Internet denizens speculated if it was Too Human, Fable 2, Halo Wars, Alan Wake or Marvel Universe.

1Up posted a follow-up Tuesday naming Marvel Universe as the game in question.

When asked if it could flatly deny our report, Microsoft told us that it "will not comment on rumors or speculation."

We received no response from Cryptic as of press time.

Don't they already have this game out anyway titled "City of Heroes" Not sure why people would want 2 of the identical game out there anyway.

Damn...I was looking forward to another game with Iron Man in it. Guess I will have to wait for the actual Iron Man game.

They should at least sequel Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

RUMORS should not be commented upon.

If the company is saying nothing then it might be true but it might not.

ALSO. For the above who said They already made COX why make another; So we should still be Playing GH I right, and Metal Gear Solid (the top scroller), Madden 1991, etc. etc. because we never make sequels to anything in games right <wink wink>

Sad to hear this, even if it is just a rumor. Although I can't honestly say that I really expected this game to ever come out. No worries, I'm still subscribed to CoX. Maybe Marvel will donate some content to CoX?
