There is almost nothing in rap/hip-hop that is similar to rock. I can't believe this is even a question.

i can see why early hip-hop would be considered rock... the similarities were aplenty.

but just as rock no longer sounds like r&b, hip-hop has also taken it's own path as it's grown older.

I once heard that Public Enemy sounds more like original Rock than Tool.

There's rap-influenced stuff like Rage Against the Machine and Faith No More that you can find in the Rock aisle at the record store, but stuff like Jay-Z or Public Enemy should never be considered rock.

...except the final product of Jay-Z's music is nothing related to rock at all.

They both came from a lot of the same origins, and once upon a time they really did have many similar sounds. And even still they have a lot of similarities (particularly "pop rock") musically.
They're both almost always 4/4, use very similar styles of syncopation (when used), tend to use similar instrumentation (or electronic versions of it), and generally follow a lot of the same conventions.
While rap and hip-hop have moved heavily towards synthesized instrumentation in recent years, if you listen to the artists who still use live instrumentation you can see why they're similar.
Listen to acts like the Gorillaz, The Five One, Rage Against the Machine, and similar and you'll see the connection.

Some Hip Hop incorporates rock into it, but I'd say it's still it's own genre.

Rock rap are completely different genres but can fuse together every once and a while (RATM, Run DMC, RHCP etc)

No, Rap is not Rock. That is why it is called rap, which is its own genre. (Who came up with this question?)
