I'm no Steve Perry (ex-lead singer for Journey, for the younger folks), and I'm not real sure if I'll be picking up the mic with 5-6 of my drunk buddies around, but is it possible to like say, play drums or bass, while actually singing into the mic...thus taking adavantage of two features at the same time?
Just thought I'd ask....:D

If you knew the beat/lyrics well enough it should be possible.

Possible, but challenging. You show up as two different characters on screen: on singer and one... whatever else you play. You need either a mic stand or a headset, and you really need to know the lyrics ahead of time, because you'll likely need to focus on the gems at the bottom of the screen.

No the game uses advanced heuristics to prevent you from doing this. If it detects you trying to pull double duty, it will erase your save file. :p

gamespy did this during the battle of the bands competition. You can read about it on their site.

well you can do that but it can't be under one single player.

that must be hard to play the guitar and hit the mic to make the tambourine sound lol. I guess you could use your head.

I wonder if in the future they might scroll the lyrics just under the strum-line for the guitar part, perhaps as a 'Power Trio" mode for everybody who wants to imitate those drums/bass/Lead-guitar-and-vox bands.
In another game they might want to think about a sing-and-play mini-career arc with easiar songs.

Or you can say "pop" or "pow" and that will work for the percussion.

Or you could just not do that. Yea.

yes you can but you have to do it as 2 players not 1

Actually, the 'tamborine hit' spots are just bonus points. You can skip them and not break your vocal combo. You won't score as high but you'll pass the song without crashing and burning.
Sing+Guitar is a good hack for getting BWT to work while solo, but it's gonna take a lot of work, a lot of skill, and a lot of practice. For some people who can't carry two different harmonic patterns in their head at once, it's just not possible. Give it a try and be persistent, may as well. Also, it might be a good idea to stick to Bass+Vocals, for easier play.

Well, the Rock Band tour came to my school today, and they got me to play and sing at the same time. I did Dani California and Say It Ain't So. I wasn't that bad. I hope.

So I have this straight, I can plug my headset in to my guitar and play both the vocals and guitar part as long as I choose the multi-player mode without worrying about any data being erased from my profile?

How does it work with your gamertag and playing 2 instruments?
Do you only get achievements/points for one instrument, or both for the signed in gamertag?
(Sorry this is for xbox360)

No. You can put the mic on a mic stand and sing into it while playing guitar, or you can plug your headset into an extra controller and sing into that. The only reason to plug a headset into your guitar is for voice chat.
Just imagine that you're two different peole... sign in to play the guitar, and then switch to your controller and sign in to do vocals... then when the song starts you do both ;)

Bass + vocals is really easy if you know the song decent enough. Even on expert it doesn't get too tough.
You can use the headset for vocals if you don't have a mic stand.
The only bad part is if you play online, you can't chat during the song because your headset will be used for your vocalist, not your instrument.

Unless you're playing songs like Run to the Hills...

I've done this with lead guitar and mic both on medium. I also was able to play the drums and sing on medium as well.

Doing lead guitar and vocals on expert is really tough, but very rewarding at the same time. I have found it to be a great way to pump up the difficulty without resorting to impossible songs (Dragonforce, anyone?). It also allows you to play the Band World Tour if your friends aren't up for it.

If you know the words to the song, it's not hard at all on either drums or guitar (I haven't tried bass). Besides not knowing the words, it only really gets tricky on some drum parts in hard and expert when a lot of things are going on and it's not a standard rock beat.

I have the most fun playing drums and singing at the same time. then my kids or fiance will play the guitar and bass if they are around. I feel like I'm Phil Collins or something......:D

It's actually a lot easier than you think.
First of all, you don't need to get the words right. To just hum through the song is
a bit of a cop out, but you don't have to sweat pronoucing every word right either.
For singing, the pitch is the most important thing. After you play a song a couple of times, you start remembering the melody and you can just sing along with it.
I've been able to pass some songs I've never heard before when doing drums+vocals.
I didn't get too many stars, but it's certainly doable.

That's what I was afraid of because my pregnant wife spilled water on my brand new elite wireless controller, so that's an extra $50.
Even if you don't have an xbox live gold account the mic headset connected to your guitar is reserved for chatting?
If I have no problem playing lead guitar and vocals on most songs this should be a piece of cake, once I get the game :) Ebay'ed it with just the MIC for $65 before shipping.

If you are referring to the ability to sing and play an instrument at the same time, yes, I can do that and I'm sure a number of people here can do so. NO, you can't do so under the same 'character'. I have a profile for each instrument (which is lame, Harmonix, I should be able to select any instrument I want with ONE avatar!)
As for 'rock double duty', that's why I'd like to know if a bluetooth headset can be used or if a patch to ALLOW bluetooth headsets can be initiated.
Having my niece hold the mic for me while I play guitar can only go so far!! LOL
As stated previously, you'll need to know the lyrics to the song because you'll need to watch the instrument note scroll.
I know, "Buy a mic stand, loser!!" I'm hip but if I can rock with my bluetooth, then my niece will be much happier!
Harmonix, so I have spoken, so shall it be done!!
Kisses all.

So out of curiousity, the ps3 headset will not work trying to sing with it? I have a 360 and I play bass or drums and sing at the same time with the headset while it's plugged into a standard controller.

PS3 headset will not work - I have a mic stand hooked up where I drum. So i can do both.

It's really fun, but I can only do well on songs that I know the lyrics to...BWTgets nearly impossible for me

I like to sing and play bass. I find that the bass is easier than the guitar, since the bass is usually running with the harmony of the song and not off doing random stuff. If there was rythym guitar parts in the game, I would probably follow what the original band vocalist did (so bass for police, rhythm guitar for metallica, etc)
I just use a mic stand and ignore the precussion parts.
You really need to know the song vocally first though. I usually just sing it on hard so I don't have to concentrate on the vocals.

So, when singing and playing instrument at the same time, can this be done under the same gamertag (360)?
To clarify, assume I have one gamertag with a few characters (vocals, guitar, etc...)
Can I play both my singer and guitar character from that account (basically by signing in twice to the same gamertag), or does one of the characters have to be from a second gamertag?

I can end up being able to play lead guitar on expert and vocals on medium on songs I know by heart, and I can squeeze out lead guitar on expert and vocals on easy on songs I'm not really 100% on.
When I'm away from school I use the X360 headset because I'm too cheap to buy a mic stand, but when I'm at school I have it rigged up so its hanging down from my bed.
Either way, its still pretty tough to do.

The way it works is, whoever is primarily signed into XBL need to navigate the main menu and get you into the BWT area. Then everyone is logged in under that person as a guest. So I make my normal wireless (vocal) controller the first controller and do all my work on that one (it's signed in as my gamertag) and my bass goes along for the ride.

Thanks - one more question; in BWT at some stage you have to move on to a harder difficulty in order to progress (as I understand it) - Do all band members have to move up their difficulty or could one, e.g. the singer stay on medium?
Frederf
12-29-2007, 04:34 PM
The band difficulty is set to be the same as the lowest difficulty setting played by the band, so they all have to move up.
Singing and playing at the same time is not only possible, it's a certified hoot.
