can you use the bottom 5 fret buttons through the whole song or only the designated solo areas?

You can use them like regular frets for the entire song but the solo, where they turn every note into a hammer on or pull off.

It'll probably be good to practice playing with them through the whole song a few times. Nothing makes me fail faster than trying to show off with the solo buttons. :p
