View Full Version : DLC Local Multiplayer Question - How are multiple profiles w/ DLC handled?

Okay, now before you state the obvious answer of 'Everyone can use it' hear me out. Consider the following scenario:
3 Xbox Live Users. Lets call them Bob, Tom and Pete. Each own a 360. Bob and Tom also own memory cards they keep their profiles on for easy use on other 360s.
Pete buys the Metallica Pack on his 360.
Bob buys the Police Pack on his 360.
Tom buys the Black Sabbath Pack on his 360.
Bob & Tom take their memory cards over to Petes. Login with their live profiles and download their content again (free).
Now, when they load the game what content is available?
All of it?
Only what is available to the profile that actually 'launched' the game?
Just curious if in this scenario their content will all become unlocked for as long as the profiles are logged in to live. Particularly since I know this is going to happen to me and my friends who all are interested in downloading different content to various different 360s but from time to time all playing on the same 360.
I'd know I can get the content working on a different 360, I just hope I can get all of it w/o having to say relaunch the game.
I know from past experience with GH2 that it seemed that the player who loaded the game was the one whose DLC appeared in this situation. :(
With the amount of content on Rock Band I'd hate to have to keep reloading the game to play stuff from different packs!

Now the big question is, can Bob and Tom also sign into XBL on one Xbox 360 (think Halo 3 where you can play ranked team slayer matches with 2 people on one screen as long as they have their own accounts). Thus having 3 different XBL accounts signed ina t once. If that is true, then content would definetly work, I think.

I just want to preface this with, I totally don't know. But, I think so.

Not exactly related, but it might be a hint to the answer.

That I'm sure of being no problem, I can get all the users signed in they just each need a controller already do that for GH, Bomberman, Worms and a bunch of other games.
Best part is by using memory cards we avoid the slow 'profile recovery' process.
But, I'm just curious if Rock Band will be smart enough to 'unlock' DLC content from all logged in profiles or just from say the 'lead' profile (game launching profile).

The DLC should be available to all regardless of sign in if it is on that hardrive. So if Pete DLs a song and goes to Toms who hasnt DLd it then Pete is out of luck.
Of course I am speculating.

Here's my related question:
My wife and I will be playing Rock Band and we each have a separate profile on my 360. I have an XBox Live Gold account and will be using my profile/account to download all the DLC tracks.
So, given that, will my wife be able to play these tracks in solo career modes on her own profile?
Is DLC tied just to the profile or to the hard drive?

Hard drive.
My question to you is
Where the hell did you find a girl that is interested in playing video games, let alone rockband...

I can't speak for Rock Band, but I can tell you that I downloaded tracks on my XBL Gold account for GHII and my wife can play them on her Silver account when she is the only one logged in. I'm assuming that the game is going to simply look for what's on the hard-drive that relates to the game and not the tag that downloaded it.

*LOL*
Tell me about it! HOw awesome is that, huh? :D
I'm surprised, really, because she doesn't like a whole *lot* of video games. She plays a lot of MMOs and she really enjoys Civilization games and console-style RPGs (Final Fantasy, etc).
But she tried out Guitar Hero II, when I borrowed it from a friend to see if I would enjoy that type of game, and instantly got just as addicted as I did. What's more, she kicks my butt at it. We've never had more than 1 guitar, so we complete by playing a song back to back and just seeing who can get a higher score. And out of at least 20 or 30 songs played that way, I've beaten her score exactly 3 times......
Of course, she played clarinet in high school, took piano lessons for years, and is really good at "falling colored block games," such as Tetris (as she describes them). So, it all works together really well, so far, for her to be really good at guitar rhythm games.
I'm extremely fortunate, therefore, that I will have someone to play through Band World Tour with me. In fact, I think we're going to end up creating at least 3 seperate bands (rock, punk, and goth) so we can each play one of the 3 main parts (guitar, in general; drums; vocals) and start each band in a different part of the world to see what the experiences are like that way.

im a bit concerned with DLC on ps3 because ive had to send mines in for warranty repair when the bd drive failed on me. i got a refurb back, so everything that i had on the original ps3 is gone. i saved game saves and stuff on a flash drive, but i dont have those giant sized ones, and im not sure how DLC works. i dont want to have to rebuy the DLC i already purchased if i ever have to send in my ps3 again.

Similarly-themed question here.
I am in college, and I intend to play on my roommate's 360. I also am planning to buy my own 360 by Christmas or shortly thereafter. While on my roommate's 360, on my gamertag, I buy DLC. Now, this raises the following questions:
1) Will I be able to transfer my gamertag to my shiny new 360 in the summer once my roommate and I split up?
2) Will I be able to transfer my Rock Band game save?
3) Will I be able to transfer my DLC?
Sorry if this is too off-topic, but I just occurred to me I might be about to spend a lot of money on "gifts' for my roommate.

Yes
2) Will I be able to transfer my Rock Band game save?
Yes, you will however need a memory card to accomplish this.
3) Will I be able to transfer my DLC?
You can re download it on the new console, but it will only function when that console is online and signed into Xbox live so that it can be validated on your profile. In contrast on your roomate 360 the content will work when you are offline or not signed in.
Basically Xbox DLC is validated in two ways:
1. Runs on the original console it was purchased on no matter who is logged in.
2. Runs on any 360 your live account signs into while that 360 is online.
So, in a sense in the long run your rock band content will be less convenient to use but you will still have access to it. However when you split with your roommate I believe he may still be able to use the content on his 360 as well.
When you get a 360 repaired by Microsoft they transfer the console level content lock from one 360 to the other if you call them. Apparently they can also do this if you can produce a receipt that showed you exchanged your console for a new one. This transfer restores the offline functionality. In your case however I don't think there will be a way to accomplish that transfer. But you will still have access online so I guess all is not lost.
Hope that helps!

1. Yes, just recover through email and so.
2. No, unless you use a memory card and take it with you.
3. As long as your account is recovered on your new 360, you can redownload previous downloads so you're good.

DLC is tied to your profile.
Errr, okay. So now we have conflicting answers.
Most people are saying that anyone signed onto the hard drive where the DLC is downloaded can play it, regardless of whether the person's profile who purchased it is signed in and playing.
But you're saying otherwise? Do you have anything to back it up?

To the OP:
As long as all 3 profiles are logged into Live, you SHOULD be able to play all the DLC. But they might have it set up where it checks the lead profile first, so it may require restarting the game with each profile to play that player's DLC. But the content will definitely not work unless the gamertag(s) who purchased it is logged into Live.
As far as other concerns:
DLC is tied to the console and the gamertag. Any DLC can be played by any profile on the XBOX 360 that the content was first purchased on. And the gamertag that purchased the DLC can play that content from any console as long as he/she is connected to XBOX Live (of course, you'll have to redownload the content to the next system).
ToradtheIdiot:
I would strongly recommend waiting to purchase the DLC once you have your own 360, but the gamesave and profile are no problem with the help of a memory card.
