Well that comes as no surprise, poor ol' Vin D. has already a reputation for making crappy movies, but this time around it's the movie's own director who's talking trash.

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/babylon-director-badmouths-film.html

"It's pure violence and stupidity," he admits. "The movie is supposed to teach us that the education of our children will mean the future of our planet. All the action scenes had a goal: They were supposed to be driven by either a metaphysical point of view or experience for the characters... instead parts of the movie are like a bad episode of 24."

"I should have chosen a studio that has guts," he says. "Fox was just trying to get a PG-13 movie. I'm ready to go to war against them, but I can't because they don't give a s--t."

I thought this was a given...it has Vin Diesel in it.

I was going to check it out, but as usual with films of this type the studio refused to do any press screenings.

I always love how the first thing the suits do when a product is deemed is less than satisfactory is cut it to shreds to fit in more screenings before it gets axed. Who knows, maybe the original cut was relatively tolerable?

Fox doesn't have a great reputation with young, visonary directors. David Fincher certainly doesn't look back on his Alien 3 days with any fondness!

Chronicles of Riddick was awesome.

Chronicles of Riddick was awesome.

Agreed I liked that movie too, but I'm sure they could have found a better man for the lead role. Diesel is just a terrible actor.

I actually like Vin Diesel. Yes, he's dry, but I think that's cool. Also, read a little about the guy. You probably assume he's just a big muscle-bound d-bag. He's actually a D&D nerd and a gamer. He cited one of the great moments of his life was when he created a fighter-mage (I think; I don't play D&D) to roleplay. He's also actually very funny.

Honestly I think most of the Vin Diesel hate is from people assuming he's someone he's not.

Don't get me wrong FA, I don't hate the guy, I just don't like his movies aside from CoR, and I'm sure he's a cool guy outside from acting.

The same thing happens to all action movie stars I guess, Stallone, Van Damme, Schwarzenegger. They made some real stinkers in their time.

He's always rubbed me the wrong way ever since he made that 'business card' movie (Multi-Facial) about what an awesome actor he is. Strays was kind of self-serving too, now that I think about it.

Anyway, it's hard not to make those assumptions when his carefully cultivated image (down to his name change from Mark Sinclair Vincent to the oh so neanderthal Vin Diesel) works overtime to convince you that he's a boneheaded lunk. He created this image to sell himself (it worked - it got him a gig on Saving Private Ryan), but he can't cry when people underestimate his complexity as a person.

That said, Pitch Black is pretty fun.

I remember reading that a while back too, and it made me actually like the dude despite that I didn't care much for his movies. :)

I love most of Vin Diesels action movies. Go watch "A Man Apart" great ****ing movie, he's pretty badass in it.As for Babylon A.D my friends have said nothing but good about it. Vin Diesel could have been Hollywood's next action star but poor roles have ruined that.

Other than Pitch Black, I think pretty much all of Vin's movies have sucked ass

Knockaround Guys was good.
I heard Pitch Black was good.

I bought CoR for HD DVD. God that movie sucked. I heard it was good, then I was massively dissapointed.

Yeah, Boiler Room was a great flick! Unfortunately someone 'borrowed' it from me and never gave it back. I'll have to repurchase it at some point.
