View Full Version : UK Returns Policy On Drum Sets.

Hey guys :)
My drum set for Rock Band (which was purchased from HMV, in the UK) has broken (more specifically, my red pad has become ridiculous to paly with, with 80% of notes either being missed or double hit, and was confirmed by friends as definitely the drum kit) and I was directed to the online replacement service.
However, I found this was only available in America. I looked up the procedure for the UK and found that the warranty has been extended until the 1st October without requiring proof of purchase, but faulty drum sets should be returned to the retailer.
Upon questioning HMV staff members today, I was told I would require my receipt (which has to be the only receipt I've misplaced in about a decade) and that I should bring just the faulty part of the drums into the shop. They said they weren't legally bound to help me without a receipt.
I'm a bit confused, and am looking for advice on the situation. If a receipt is required I'll turn the house upside down because I absolutely love my drum set. I'm unsure if I'll find it (but it is doubtful I've thrown it away) but I'm unwilling/unable to fork out £70 for a new drum set.
Any ideas, guys?
Thanks a lot for the help.

The only solution I can think of which is a bit long winded is this:
1) Go and buy a standalone instrument set from HMV to obtain a receipt.
2) Take your broken drum part into the store with newly obtained receipt for it to be replaced.
3) Return unopened standalone instrument set with receipt explaining that it was an unwanted birthday present for a full refund.
As long as the same person doesn't serve you twice (might be worth sending someone else into get the repair done?) I can't see this going wrong.
Disclaimer: I'm not buying your instrument set off you if they refuse to take it back because they find out you are pulling a fast one! :)

Sounded like a plan but I think at step 2 they'd take the receipt from me, and then I wouldn't be able to return the unopened standalone instrument, so I'd have 2 :(.
Other than that it was actually very clever, thanks for the suggestion :)
I think I'll try just taking the drums into my local HMV tomorrow, maybe I'll be able to chat up the (kind of) hot gothic chick that works there and persuade her. Or the middle aged balding man :).
