I've never watched it, that will be a fun song to play.
Boy, I'll suck with the guitar for awhile.

Man... Just watching that makes me wanna play it even more than I did, and I thought that was impossible. I really like that the crowd sings along now, that's pretty wicked. And I'm glad I know what the solo indication is, when the fret board turned blue THAT is when you are able to use the "solo buttons" near the base of the guitar. I think if there is a double note (like if I tap green but another green comes up) I'll probably strum it though instead of tapping.

god I can't wait, it the difficulty on hard looked pretty decent so I have more faith in the expert mode challenging us guitar heros.. but I can't wait to see some of the difficult drumming stuff its gonna rock.

Yeah, that was great. I wish that it was expert, but I'm not going to complain. That's just a fantastic video that gets me even more excited (is that possible?) for this game.

Haha, I figured it was only hard not because of the notes, but the track was just moving slowly.
Did anyone notice the fact in the beginning?
Coheed and Cambria is pretty wild. I knew about this ever since their first CD came out, but does anyone know what the name of the book is? I would like to see their first CD as DLC.

I hope they have some songs where the artist just cuts out and it lets the audience sing a verse. Even better would be an optional singing part on the track where you could choose which words during a certain verse that you want to let the audience sing w/o you in unison.

I call not it on vocals on that one though. Sanchez's voice is way too high. :P

What was that thing that flew down at the end? Was that his notestreak? That is going to be a fun guitar song, I love that it shows how close you are to the next star on the screen, thats really convenient.
His ending jam solo sounded awesome, I hope that I can do that and not just button mash, same with on the drum fills!

I'm not so worried about the difficulty in this game after hearing a lot of the later annoucned songs though.
I sure hope expert is note for note though, this song sounds like it has a lot of fun parts near the end, but on hard they were a joke.. I just hope they don't skimp out on expert.

Huge Coheed fan here.
There's not a book, per se, but they're publishing comics regularly that tell the story. There was also a graphic novel included with the limited edition of the CD that Welcome Home is from that tells the story of that specific chapter. I won't get into the details of the story here, because it's awesomely complex, but each CD tells a chapter of the story. This last one that just came out is the final chapter, and then they're going to go back and tell the beginning of the story, kind of a prequel sort of thing.
So yeah. Coheed rules.

The story/comic is actually called The Armory Wars.
There's some (ok) information about it on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amory_Wars
Bands are no strangers to concept albums, but I've always thought Coheed's to be pretty bleeding edge. I mean their entire existance has been devoted to this saga. Be interesting to see where they go from there (plus they recently got Dillinger Escape Plan's Chris Pennie as their new drummer, and I'd love to see them give him a chance to show what he can do).

The note chart doesn't look hard at all. For me it'll be just a matter of getting used to those damn rectangles haha.

11-15-2007, 04:26 AM
I'm not sure HOW you could make this song harder without adding notes that don't exist. It's a pretty simple pattern of notes in that song, after all. More three-fret button chords, I guess?
Myself, I prefer songs that sound the way they play, regardless of the difficulty setting. When you have to abstract it too much to make it Easy/Medium or add notes to make it Hard/Expert, it doesn't feel right at all.

Yeah honestly for a next-to-last tier song it's pretty mild for hard, but it's a good chart regardless. I'd like to see it on expert too. :P

Those rectangles are the best thing that's ever happened to these type of games. Seriously, it's hard to go back to the cumbersome circles after playing with the clean-cut rectangles for awhile. At least for me it is.

I don't expect the guitar in this game to be as challenging as GH3. Nor do I care. What makes this game for me (and what HMX/MTV is marketing with) is the MP aspect.

Seconded. Circles are a pain, because... when do you strum, exactly? When the solid circle enters the ghost circle? When it's in the middle? Visually you have to try to decide when there's "enough" overlap that it's Now Time to Strum. This made the lag calibration in GH2 a pain as well, because I could never figure exactly when it wanted me to hit the mark, what with the beep not lining up with the circle not lining up with the space not lining up with the aaargh.
A LINE, though... there's no question. Line matches line, you strum, end of story. Visually it makes logical sense and it helps you get sharper timing.
As for how the guy 5-starred it while blowing notes everywhere... he still got 90+%, right? That counts. His run got stronger as it went on and he hit overdrive sections repeatedly.

Seems like there are too many overdrive sections. And the fact that we can get more overdrive while it is activated.... makes getting 5 stars not seem as prestigious as it is in GH.
And as I said... he had 5 stars with 2 and a half minutes left in the song. Which he couldn't have had over 85% or less of the song completed.

Actually if you know the song well, you can tell that there are several notes being left out. And there are lot of places where double notes could have been used instead of singles. So Expert will be true to the song, not over the top. The hard note chart to me actually looked pretty tame compared to the actual song.

The same way I repeatedly 5 star Freebird with something like 92-93% of notes hit. Streaks and starpower usage will boost your score even if you flub solos.

lol well they're 2 completely different songs...this song is not really hard, so it is easier to 5 star it with like 4 minutes left compared to free bird.

How about with 2 minutes left in Freebird then. Most people don't have 345k within the first 7 minutes of the song.
Take away the last minute or two of most songs..... and say you missed every note in the last minute or two of a song... do you think you'd have 5 stars? Your multiplier would be trashed.
Also taking into account how many times he broke his multiplier.

I did--just last night. You'd notice the exact same thing if any of the GH games showed your star totals as you played. Of course, if you don't play the end of the song, you'll fail, but getting those 5 stars isn't as hard as you think. That's why Scorehero extrapolates the system to 6, 7, and even 8 stars.

1. lots of notes missing on hard. expert should be a lot mroe difficult.
2. the solo section is a nice blue color background. nice touch.
3. Looks awesome. the singer has definetly been seen in a video before, must be predeterminbed characters.

I'm sorry Lestat but your headspace is the exact reason I HATE Guitar Hero. Why should all that bull**** matter? When did you give up on having fun only to replace it with tedious point grinding to try and get that extra 4 points?
That is just not what I consider fun. But hey, you are allowed to enjoy whatever you want. Let us know when you FC DragonForce.
\\Edit: sorry I meant to say that's why I hate "Guitar Hero Point Grinders". I actually really like all of the GH series games. GH3 is decent, but the art style is a total turn off.
