On October 31st, the worst thing ever happened. I got the three rings of death on my xbox for the first time. Now it November 15 and my xbox has been in TX for 2 days. All this righ beofre rock band and other great games are released. Their was a thread about what the worse thing that couold happen. Try picking up your preorder with no box to go home too. O wait, i forgot i cant get a preorder either, soo ill have to stand inline for a game i cant play. I feel so bad, i need a hug :(

Oddly enough it's happened to more than a couple of people on the forum (myself included).

I probably won't get mine back for another 2-3 weeks (they just received the console yesterday to start repair) so it looks like it's nothing but DS for me until December :P

They send back a refurbished 360 a couple of days after they receive your damaged one, so I wouldn't be surprised if you got it by next Friday (23rd).

Why do people keep posting these threads? theres been at least 6 of them, plus a bunch of other people scared to use their xbox til RB comes out just incase. It's like your invite PS3 fanboys to give you crap. Just from reading the thread title "noooo not now" i was certain it was gonna be another case of the red rings. Also this this should be in the general section.

I posted it b/c i can. And if it HAS to moved, then contact a mod. I dont really care. Yes thier been alot it just funny how it happened. I was playing GHIII and playing THrough Fire And Flame on expert and it fried then it was funny...it looked like the song fried my box, i know it dident but it was so ironic lol. And personly i dont care if PS3 fanboys rag on me, all i know is that we have a **** load better games. though i wouldent mind picking up a playstion for MGS and Socom.

I feel your pain as it happened to me right when I got Bioshock. It took me just about a month because they took forever sending me the coffin. However they did give me two 30 day XBL cards when I called to complain.

I'll agree that it should be in general, but how about a little empathy for the guy?

We've all been hyping this since E3 or before, have spent months scouring the internet for new information, and to have it happen is akin to getting a 3-4 week delay right before it comes out. I think we're all mature enough to not throw a hissy about it, but it doesn't suck any less.

And who cares about PS3 fanboys. :P Console wars are older than the hills (I remember arguing until my face was blue about how much better my nintendo 8bit was over their genesis) and they'll never go away.

Keep it in a well ventilated area and give it some space from other hot electronics (like LCD TVs). Consider a cooling unit, but if you get a Nyko Intercooler, make sure it is one of the newer models (http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=86249).

Now a days you should be fine once they send one back to you.
If you got it replaced earlier in the year you might still have problems in the future.
You're looking for the new heat sinks that all new 360s should have. (http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/04/check-out-your-xbox-360s-heatsink-without-voiding-warranty/)

Incidentally, if you've bought your 360 in the past couple of months (elites or HDMI outputs) you should be good to go. I'd still keep it ventilated though.

In most circumstances I can't feel empathy for a xbox dying, its what u get for buying an inferior piece of hardware (im talking specificly the hardware and its fault parts, not raggin on anything else about the console, its games, software etc).

However, I spose this is the one time i can feel bad for people suffering the red ring of death. It sucks that you have to wait to play RB.

Aww, Rock Band even has the power to make PS3 fanboys and xbots make peace. Is there anything it can't do?

My launch unit still runs fine(is still quite loud) but the only lock up I had was a game bug(switchball). gamestop is giving 150 in store credit for working 360s for the holidays(They don't even need the HDD for the credit). so i was thinking about upgrading to a elite. Meh maybe we'lls ee good luck man.

Yeah, and I'd even condend that's valid in the current landscape (for all intents and purposes the PS3 is a much better piece of engineering), but at the time I bought my xbox at least (release) PS3 wasn't even an option thanks to delay after delay. The only thing I can say about the 360s hardware is that Microsoft has tried to make things right (increasing a completely parts and labor warranty by 3 years is pretty generous), but hopefully they'll learn for their mistakes with the next iteration.

I've heard of exactly one hardware failure with the new heat sink. It's got half red and half green lights, now.

Yes I walked into the store and said, "Please kind sir hand me the console that is most likely to break. I wouldn't want a non-defective unit." As a previous poster pointed out when most of the older Xboxs were around there wasn't a choice.

Funny you should ask. I received my "fixed" 360 back the day after GH3 launched. It played games great but a couple of days later when i tried to play a movie it froze after a couple of minutes. I tried everything i could think of but it wouldnt play any movie i put in. Needless to say i was not a happy camper. I just got it back yesterday and so far it works fine.

If your console has been in McAllen TX for 2 days you should probably call XBOX customer service. Its probably on the back of one of the UPS trucks right now on its way back to daddy. They can give you a tracking number.

Also, keep your box. If you have another problem microsoft will want to ship you a new coffin/box. I said screw that and just sent it back in the return box for my "fixed" 360. It cost 10 bucks but it was well worth cutting a week off your time without a console

i called this mourning and they said they were still repairing it...or the automated meassge said that..i'm gonna call l8er and see what they/it says. I will give the Ps3 its credidt its got powerful hardware though not much more then the 360 but it does stay working. But for me they just arnt releasing enough games for me to get one. I was a PS Fanboy in the PS2 days, thne the xbox came out and i owned two systems. Played them side by side. Like xbox more.... just what i like :)

My Xbox got the red lights once. It was purchased in Feb. '06 and was mailed in for a new one. This one is louder but rarely ever locks up. Locked up a lot in the past week which I thought was my fault but apparently there was a glitch on Xbox Live locking up everyones Xboxs, glad it didn't break before Rock Band I would have cried. Even though I have a PS3 in worst case scenario I refuse to get it finding out about the dongle for the guitar, no matter how well received it is in comparison to GH3.

On Sat, I was in the middle of BWT w/ my brother my 360 froze, I restarted it, and got the 3 red rings I was so pissed

1) Just got my 360 back on monday (11/19) from Texas
2) See Above

So now I have to send it back a 2nd time, and if this happens again, well my xbox will have a meeting with a hammer, my fists, and little fire
