Alright, should I purchase tickets to Metallica's 08/09 tour? I have never seen a famous band live and I like Metallica a lot (Well Kill 'Em All - Black Album) but I have concerns.
I heard they are not very good live anymore, I heard/read that Hetfields voice has weakened a lot, and Hammett just can't shred very good anymore.
So has anyone who's seen them recently confirm if they are goid or bad?
And should I go??
I saw them like 5 years ago and was not impressed.
Well, they sounded good....but they didn't do much but stand around.
Now for some that's quite alright, for me? Jeez guys don't look so bored.

I've seen Metallica 6 times now...starting in '89. And I just bought tickets last week to see them again.
Sure, they aren't what they used to be...but who is after 25 years of touring?? I know, I know....some will say bands like Slayer are just as good today as when they started, but I think these are exceptions to the rule.
As for Metallica - I personally think that they still tear it up pretty good. In fact, I think that a lot of people who claim to not like Metallica, would 100% change their minds after seeing them live.
One thing that makes them great in concert is the fans. Metallica fans are insanely loyal, and possibly slightly deranged too! I've been to lots of concerts, and no one else has better band/crowd chemistry.
If you do decide to go....just remember this one song: Creeping Death. You'll know what I'm saying if you go!

What were you expecting...Cirque du Soleil?? ;) In my experience, I've never felt like they were boring.

Well a little energy would have been good. Maybe walk around a bit? I know they're old but, damn.
Even more troubling? This was the Summer Sanitarium tour and before Metallica, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit played.
You know what...and this is the sick thing...lol....Limp Bizkit totally stole that show. It was shocking. They may not be as good musically but man they put on one hell of a show.
Pretty bad when Limp Bizkit steals your thunder. They did a Metallica cover in their set and I kid you not it sounded better than when Metallica played it later.
These things....they are not good...

Yeah, I can see what you're saying.
You know what I think the difference is though?
Both of the bands you mentioned have singer(s) that don't play guitar...so they are free (dare I say, compelled) to roam the stage, which would definitely make for a more lively show.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not knocking Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park. I actually like both of them quite a bit. But if I'm going to lay down $60-$80 for concert tickets, I'm going to see Metallica first!

You have a point there, the "front man" being able to move around helps quite a bit. But, it wasn't just that. The other band members in Limp Bizkit were fun just to watch, really INTO the show. Linkin Park was amazing that day as well.
Who knows though, maybe Metallica had a bad day?? Not that it matters to me, I paid to see them I expected a little more.
Truth be told I wouldn't go again.

Yeah, I won't deny that they aren't the most lively act in the world...they are definitely better known for getting in a wide 'guitar-stance' and bangin' heads!
I will also admit that one time I saw them with Godsmack....and Godsmack totally stole the show! Metallica put on a decent show, but it was a little weak compared to Sully & the boys.
Also, saw them during the first Summer Sanitarium tour (with System of a Down, Powerman 5000, Korn & Kid Rock). SOAD & Korn were both amazing....& Kid Rock had strippers on stage, so , yeah it was pretty damn good). But it was in San Francisco (Metallica's home-turf), so they put on an incredible show!!!
Godsmack! Korn! Kid Rock!
We need these in RB :)
I've seen Korn live actually, they were pretty entertaining.
Need to see Kid Rock, he just came through town and a couple of my buddies went. Jerks didn't even give me the heads up, tickets were all sold out by the time I found out.
Bah.

Yeah, I've never understood why Godsmack doesn't get more love?!
Metallica has The Sword & Down opening for them on this particular leg of the tour...which I'm really excited about. The Sword has that sweet throwback, stoner metal sound.
And I know a lot of Pantera fans don't like Down because of Phil Anselmo, but I still think he's a great metal singer.

Metallica has The Sword and Lamb of God with them when they come here.
So I think I'll buy the tickets, because I kindof expected them no to move much (because metal bands don't move much) and you guys still say thry sound good.
Thanks!
