You've probably heard about it already, still it's worth bringing up.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The home run king wasn't home free after all.
Bonds, baseball's home run king, was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice Thursday and could go to prison instead of the Hall of Fame for telling a federal grand jury he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs.
The indictment came just three months after the San Francisco Giants star broke Hank Aaron's career home run record, and it culminated a four-year investigation into steroid use by elite athletes.
But for all the speculation and accusations that clouded his pursuit of Aaron, Bonds was never identified by Major League Baseball as testing positive for steroids, and personal trainer Greg Anderson spent most of the last year in jail for refusing to testify against his longtime friend.
Then came the indictment -- four counts of perjury, one of obstruction of justice; a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison -- and Bonds' lawyers seemed caught off guard.

This is funny in it's own right, but what I found to be downright hysterical was after A-Rod announced that he was opting out of his past contract with the Yankees in the middle of Game 4 of the World Series, he went and did the same thing here.
He and Scott Boras apologized for taking attention away and then as soon as this news about Bonds breaks and that Bonds is going to get indicted, he announces that he agrees to a contract in "principle" and that they have an "outline" once again taking attention from another story and trying to put more onto himself.
I hope A-Rod chokes on his 27.5 million dollars he gets every year for the next ten years.

Whoa whoa whoa.
First, A-Rod is hands down the best player in baseball. I'm a big Yankees fan, but I wasn't one of those ones that suddenly hated A-Rod when he opted out. Sure, I didn't like how it was handled (announcing it during the WS) but that doesn't mean I can't think with a straight head, and realize it was a big loss for the Yankees.
Second, I don't think he tried to upstage anything today. It was clear after yesterday that a deal was going to be announced any second, and be made official within a few days. The Bonds thing happening today is merely a coincidence. Also, I heard about the A-Rod deal before news of the Bonds indictment broke.
It's easy to hate a rich guy because apparently he doesn't feel he's rich enough, but let's not act like he's not as good a baseball player as he's made out to be. If we were all in the same situation, we would likely do the same thing. In the "real" world, don't we change jobs if we can get paid more elsewhere, or get appreciated more elsewhere? I think so.
Also, I think the whole WS announcement really was more of Boras' idea. And I hate him. I hate sports agents in general. They're in the same classy group, to me, as paparazzi and celebrity assistants. It's like they've always wanted to be famous, but were never good enough (as an athlete, actor, whatever) so they get their fix, and make a living, off of hanging off of famous people. Baseball has been my favorite sport since I was crapping in my diapers, and its sad to think of how fast baseball salaries have been growing, and I blame agents. And with no salary cap in MLB, how can you blame agents for wanting the most for the clients (since it also means their cut as an agent is bigger)? Instead of throwing all the money at players, it'd be nicer if they could just lower ticket prices, so I don't have to spend $60 to get a good seat at Yankee Stadium. Oh well. My rant is over.

What is the best thing about this Bonds case? The fact that private steroids test done by BALCO came up positive. So he tested positive with the BALCO tests, they documented it (idiots), and he now has a positive test on record. Marc Ecko needs to hurry up and asterisk that ball.
