Yeah, um..... what?
This ad does not give me any desire to buy Windows or, well, anything but a churro for that matter. Damn, now I want a churro.

Apple Mac commercials are so much better.

I don't like Seinfeld. But Churros I like

I fail to see whatever sense that ad was trying to make.

I think I'll stick with my Mac.

If you didn't know who Bill Gates is (a lot of people don't) you would have no idea what the commercial was about. Shoes? Churros? 15th century Spanish explorers?

I mean the add kind of makes me want a churro. I guess it taught me something about breaking in leather shoes and maybe a bit of spanish... It didn't say much about computers, though. It mentioned an edible one, but I kind of doubt that that was the point of the commercial. I also doubt that an edible computer is possible, but that's besides the point, whatever point that may be.

I don't know what ad firm cooked up that monstrosity, but remind me never to do business with them.

For as much money and star power that was thrown into that disaster, it didn't bring home any sort of a selling point.

LOL, Family Guy FTW.

I remember seeing this on TV and seriously thought somehow I accidentally changed the channel and was watching some f**ked up new TV show. I like Seinfeld, but it truly makes you go "WTF was that trying to tell me?" instead of "mmm, I shall purchase that product!"

I don't think the point was to drive home a selling point or to push a product in peoples faces. I mean... here's this thread talking about the commercial and nobody really knows what it meant. It wouldn't be the first time that a good advertisement came out of not actually showing any products.

There were some funny things in the commercial too. The fact that the pic on gates big top points card was the pic from his mug shot (http://www.geckoandfly.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/gates_mug_shot.jpg). Which, oddly enough, was also on the tshirt worn by Rashad Evans (who KTFO'd Chuck Liddell) at this weekends UFC event. Which also caused many people to say "what the hell is he wearing that for? What does it mean??".

um apparently none of you paid any attention
obviously the entire commercial was to celebrate the release
of portal 2. The dry humor, the hint of a CAKE computer
yeah that's right portal 2 special edition PC confirmed

Wow, that sucked. For me it's safe to say they've missed the point completely. After watching that ad, it doesn't wanna make me a PC at all. In fact, I'm not even sure that ad was about a PC. It seemed to be more about shoes than anything else. They need a better publicist (is that the right word?) to do their marketing ads.

Maybe Bill Gates had so much damn money, he thought he'd blow it on something totally obscure and pointless?

Hey, if I had that much money? Folks, you'd be seeing the craziest sh*t ever on TV, 24/7.

Apple Mac commercials are so much better.

Indeed. I think it's interesting how, when they first started airing, "Mac" was really smarmy and arrogant, while "PC" was a complete loser, but more people identified with "PC" because they didn't want to be the trendier-than-thou "Mac" guy, so Apple started making "PC" more of a likeable, sympathetic loser, and "Mac" less annoying. Which I guess makes the commercials more palatable, but still not enough to want to buy a Mac.

I saw it last night during Mad Men for the first time and was just waiting for Jerry to pull out his American Express or Patrick Warburton Voiced Superman to show up. I'll admit, I thought it was funny, but didn't think it conveyed "Microsoft" very well.

I think Bill Gates woke up one morning and said to himself "You know what, I feel like being on TV in a pseudo-sitcom-short-wrapped-in-a-commercial, reguardless of how many millions of dollars it will waste. The WTF reaction on the internet will be priceless."

This is the result.

More proof that Seinfeld should just stay retired, and that heads of multi-billion dollar corporations should have no place promoting their own products on TV.

And he probably thought, "I'll get that Jewish guy from that sitcom. The one with the bald fat guy and the tall crazy dude and the curly haired woman with the annoying voice. He's hip and trendy. And by being in a commercial with him I'll be hip and trendy."

I was referring more to him being out of touch -- has Seinfeld (the man) done anything other than that stinkbomb Bee Movie since Seinfeld (the show) folded up the tents?

I think that "commercial" was created to show a basis of relationship between Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates, who will be doing a series of commercials together. The purpose of this commercial wasn't to encourage you to buy a PC, but it establishes a relationship between the two characterized versions of Seinfeld and Gates. Now when you see ads in the future of these two guys hanging out, you have a previously-established relationship. Jerry had a knowledge of shoes which he shared with Bill, thus giving Bill a reason to associate with Jerry. Another example of this is how at the beginning, Seinfeld has a churro and when they leave, they both have churros. It denotes a change and a growing bond between them.

Wow FallenAce, you got all that from watching the ad? I'm feeling plenty stupid now hehe

I get that it's the start of an ad campaign, and is laying the groundwork for future ads, but similar campaign's have been done before without such a "wtf?" commercial to begin the campaign.

in case anyone does not remember the point of Seinfeld was that it was about nothing
much like this commercial.

The point of this commercial is that there is no point. They're launching a new ad campaign, and they wanted to get everyone talking about it. What better way than making it make little sense? It worked. Everyone IS talking about it. Every forum I go to on the internet has a thread about it. Hell people even asked me if i've seen it in person. I've never seen that happen with a commercial before. I'd say their plan worked incredibly well.

Anyway, I'll keep using windows as long as it's the PC gaming platform of choice. Fact is, most games and software are simply made with windows in mind.

This add is about nothing. The whole point of the add is to be about nothing. That's why Seinfeld is in it. Doesn't anyone remember that Seinfeld was famously a show "about nothing"?

It's referencing that, and it drops the Windows name once.

It's trying to entertain you a bit, and throws in the ad toward the end. You might not even realize you were watching a commercial.

I for one, enjoyed the commercial and look forward to purchasing those computers we can eat.
