Hey all, I am sad to say that i am done with the boards. I've had my fun, but i've decided that its now my time to go.

I know i made TONS of friend here and i'm gonna miss you ALL! I have come to this decision because now that i'm a junior i have to worry about SAT's and school and i don't have time to really come on the boards. I figured this way is just going to be easier then coming on once ever week or so...

I hope no one gets to upset... maybe in the summer i'll come back... who knows..

I'm gonna miss you all, the general forum was the BEST and had some of the sweetest people here...

I worried way too much over the ACT, junior year just builds you up to belive that if you don't do well on that test your life is a failure. I dinn't get a great score 22, but my life wasn't ruined because of it.

Back to OP sorry to see ya go

Don't listen to them.
SATs are a test to test how the school and teachers are doing.
Basically you'll get put into sets next year depending on your results, the better results, the higher set you'll be put into. But if you're doing exceptional in your set you'll move into a harder class.
I didn't revise at all and in my SATs in year 9 I got 776, 6 being Science.
I didn't revise for my GCSE's and I got an A in maths and 11 B's.
I didn't revise for my first year of A Levels and I got a C D and E.
I nearly failed 1 subject, I've now dropped out and started a course in Film & Television production.

Believe me from someone who's only just been there, SATs are NOT something to worry about.

Goodbye All *waves*

SATs don't take that much of your time. If you go to a semi-decent school, they prep you for them in class during school hours. Sure you won't post 7426 times in a 5 month span, but really, who needs to quit a message board like its a job?

Good luck with school! But...

...make sure you have some fun too ok? Once you're finished all your schooling it's pretty much work work work for the next 40 years or so ;)

So make sure you enjoy the time you have surrounded by people that are in your age group :)

I'm not saying they're not important at all because you don't want to completely fail.
But if you're SATs are in say.. May, and you want to do well, quit in March. You're only doing 3 subjects, it's not a lot to revise for.
GCSE will be worse, then if you do A Levels, you may as well give up the social life.

Angie, i'm a senior in high school this year (as i've told you i think? or i've said before somewhere on the forums?) and having taken the SAT's/ACT's last year, i know that it really really isnt as bad as your projecting it and thinking its gonna be.

You seem to do well in school and you also seem to care a lot about school...neither of which has ever been what i've done :p I didnt study a SINGLE time last year for the SAT/ACT's on my own time, and i got a 29 on them

That may not be any consolation as i GUESS i could do naturally well on tests (not true btw, haha), BUT! Another thing to remember when your budgeting your time during this school year between hanging out with friends/doing what you want/having fun and doing schoolwork/studying is that it is required in the United States for schools to do a certain amount of preparing the students for the tests.

This doesnt mean YOUR school will (as some dont im sure), but let me ask you this, do you go to a relatively nice school? It doesnt have to be some extremely nice 10,000$ a year, boarding school, but if its not some run-down, inner-city school, then they will WANT to prep you for the ACT's/SAT's.

This is because the school gets more money and looks better to the state (therefore allowing them to get more money ) when they have the student average for the school in the higher scoring range.

All of your classes that are MANDATORY classes for juniors to take, english II, speech, world history, etc (at least those are some of the ones here) will have the teachers giving you worksheets and handouts during the class, teaching you better test-taking skills, giving you rundowns of what is expected or asked on the test, etc. If they dont start doing it soon they definitely will start once you get closer to the date of the test.

Speaking of the date of the test...if you actually plan on studying a lot, and putting a ton of time into prepping for the test, then you may want to just wait for the test to be a few months or so away. That way, you dont forget the stuff you studied 6 months beforehand :p

I dont say all this to get you to stay on the forums (although that would be cool if you did stop in everyonce in a while still), but so that you dont freak out during your whole school year and not enjoy yourself at all. You only get to do this whole high school thing once :p Believe me, that realization starts hitting near the end of junior year and it sucks if you look back and you used all of your time on stuff you didnt want to really be doing.

From what i've seen you've been one of the most welcoming, nicest, fun, helpful, and all-round coolest people on the boards and it'll be a lesser place here without you :)

Dont stress yourself out TOO much this year, try to enjoy at least some of it :p

And remember, you can always retake the tests ;)

I took them in my junior year. And my senior was very easy and as someone who is in college I can say there aren't as big of a thing as many people think. If you don't do great on them you might not be able to get in the best colleges your first year or two. But if you have good grades your first few years you can transfer to good colleges.

Edit: Also I didn't do great on the SAT's either but I'm going to a good college now.

Dude this isn't a competition over who can write the most about Angie leaving. It's style over substance not to take away anything from what you wrote. But just because someone writes more doesn't make their words more meaningful than someone else's.

i can't get the prep class... it cost 600 bucks in my school and my parents just dont have the money so i have to study on my own... :\

Ohhh. Well most English and Math teachers will prep you at least 2-3 weeks before, at least that's how it was in all the school systems around my town in Mass. There was a program that they'd help you study after school for an hour or two each day, but it was in the range of $450-500 back in my day (damn inflation!) so it was out of the question, plus I didn't really care enough. I didn't study at all for the SATs.

I got a 740 in math and a 540 in English. I studied up my English, retook it and got a 690 in Math and a 630 in English. Most schools will look at the top form of your score, so my section score in total was 1370. Not terrible, it'll get you into any school until a $35k tuition, with good financial aid for your starting year. This was all before they added science and other crap that affect your scores. Exactly one year before, actually.

doh! you're leaving, IG?? We haven't known each other too much, but I still loved ya. :D Well, SATs and getting into the college you want is stressful; I've been there before. So, good luck on studying.

I guess I can see why you'd completely ban yourself from coming back on here. You're probably addicted to these boards, the moment you try chatting. Cuz I was gonna suggest that if you truely loved these boards, you could just come in every few weeks or something, but then maybe you're just too addicted that you'd forget about your studies all the time. Well, I'll miss you!

Studying is all about time management; that's what you learn when you go to college, and it's no different when studying for SATs.

Figuring out how you should study, and the amount of time you study on it, and learning when you should take those 5-10 min. breaks, and learning what study habits works best for you, such as whether you learn best by visual, memorization, etc. So, again, good luck on getting into the college you're aiming for! I'll be missing you.

Just don't procrastinate; that's our worst enemy. The moment you procrastinate, you'll start procrastinating even more. A lot of us are lazy, and we tend to do that. Try to say to yourself to not give up; try something that'll motivate you back to studying.

If you're a more musical inclined person, it might be best to try a technique based on your ears, to get that into your head. As much studying as you'll need, it's never good to try and cram everything in your head, because by the next day you'll forget a lot of stuff you tried memorizing for. Study a little bit everyday up til your SAT test; and always take breaks. You need it, so that you can retain all that information you tried memorizing.

Breathing is important, so do it once in a awhile. You know the drill, unless you haven't heard it yet, but it's best to study in the early morning; you are able to retain that information better than later in the day, even if you are tired in the morning.

Take practice tests, once you are ready. Then, you can figure out which areas you have problems with, if you made errors in the practice test. You can also try to think of questions yourself that aren't in the practice tests. Remember, that's only a practice test, so most likely you won't see those questions in the actual SAT test. So, try to think of other questions yourself that you think might be in the test.

Lastly, before the SAT day, don't study the day before the test. You need a day of rest before the test; you'll retain that info better too, and most likely you won't be able to remember all that stuff you just tried memorizing anyways. If you have friends to study with, take advantage of that option too.

boy i wrote a lot, but I do want you to succeed. And I know what it's like to struggle on an important test. I was never good at tests in high school, but I learned to do well in tests by my college years. So I am sharing you my wisdom, so that you don't have to struggle as much.

Sayonara, person who I do not know, and probably does not know me.

But, really, don't sweat it; this happens to just about everyone.
Since, after all, being an active part of an online community is tough work. You have to spend hours of each of your days actively refreshing pages, memorizing smilie faces, and posting messages to people.
And while this may seem as if it's worth it, it's really not. The main reason people go through all of that trouble isn't because it's entertaining to them, or because it's a great way to spend their time, but because they get carried away with it; they feel that they need to stay as part of the community, and really, it's addicting.
While this may all seem nonsense to you now, I can pretty much guarantee that in about a few weeks, you'll understand. You'll come to realize that you don't need to be a part of the community, that there's no point in it. That the people you meet here, while they may be cool, aren't really important to you. You won't think about any of them whatsoever throughout the day, they won't think about you, and really, the only reason the two of you felt like you needed to interact was because you felt you needed to be a part of the community.

(Of course, if you have added any of these people on to Instant Messenger or something, then it's a different story)

If you do wind up trying to join the community again during the summer, then I can pretty much guarantee what will happen then too. While you may be very active for a couple weeks, you'll steadily lose interest. The thought of being part of the active community has lost its flare, and you really won't see how it's worth it.
Your eyes will have been opened, my young Padathing.

So yay. Dreary, lengthy, yet interesting post. Now for a bit of optimism.
You don't really need to completely leave the forums; you just need to post more moderately. This means maybe once or twice a day you scroll through the recent topics, write a post where it looks interesting to do so, and maybe spend 15 minutes in total. And maybe once a week or so enter a discussion for 30-60 minutes.
Just have fun and communicate with people-- who seem as if they'll remember you anyway, so that won't be a problem-- rather than trying to force yourself to be way active. You'll have plenty of time for everything else, in that way.

In any case, good luck with your SATs.
I'll be taking mine sometime this year, as well.
