The USA release of Rock band for the 360 is USA region only. It is NOT region free. Sorry :(
Please keep this in mind before you shell out on ebay for something that is not going to work.

Just out of curiosity... do you have a source for this information?
(I'm not trying to be difficult)

i am the source. I know i have zero creedibility here as i just registered. I have been lurking here for many many months, and i know the question has been asked many times, and i am just trying to help before people drop good money on something that wont work. I got the retail disk, but not the SE package, so i refuse to play until my preorder arrives on Tuesday.

so why buy the disc? Other than to be a nice guy/girl and help out the Euro fans here?

Lol, I don't think I've ever seen an avatar match a comment quite so well.
now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to hug my PS3.

like i said, i am just trying to help. If i wanted to be a jerk i'd say it was region free and bounce. I am sure there will be confirmation as the days lead up to it's release, or the first person that tries to buy it anyway and is disappointed. I was just trying to help out the fellow Rock Band brethren.

You still didn't answer how you know it? Have you tried it with a PAL console?
Hm... I'm not sure if I can believe this. Well... I hope you're not right.
Hopefully we get confirmation on Monday, or Tuesday the latest.

I cannot discuss how i verified it, as i am sure it will not be a topic that harmonix wishes to be discussed, as evident by them closing the other pre release topics yesterday. And i honor and support their hard work on this brilliant game. Please disregard my warning if you wish, as it is of little consequence to me personally. I am trying to provide an answer to a community that has given a lot to me over the past few months awaiting this big release. I am not wrong, but i also, in the same breath, realize there is very little in the way of proof that will satisfy people that refuse to believe me on the internet. I am the same when it comes to being skeptical on other types of rumor/news. there will be some members that beleive this, and they will potentially save themseleves the hassle and fees assoicated with purchasing a game that ultimately will not work on a PAL console.
I would, if i could, change the thread title to say "1 users findings" as opposed to confirmed, because that might let some of you disregard it as rumor and move on.

Damn... you sound pretty sure, and I don't see the reason in joining this board just to spread false information.
I still cross my fingers and wait for Tuesday. My Import Shop keeper told me I will get the 360 version if it is region free, and the Ps3 version if the 360 version isn't region free.
Thank god that I have both consoles... but I'm still sad, because I probably only can get my hands on the DLC with the 360 version.
And I'm so looking forward to Radiohead's Iron Lung!! :(

I wasn't doubting him at all, so don't think that. I was just wondering if there was an article somewhere, as I like to have a link in "news" posts.

Play Asia always write "Compatible with US/Canada Systems" to their NTSc Xbox Games, they did that with Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed and Co. too, but those are region free.
They just don't know because they don't have the game yet. (Or haven't tried it out)

Couldn't someone get a US PS3 and proxy into the US?

ps3 is not region encoded from what i understand, so there is no workaround needed for that system.
the xbox 360 however, does have region encodings on a small percentage of their games. unfortunately, rock band is one of the few to get a region lock, and on the 360 there is no workaround for out of region games.

Not that I don't believe you, even if I really do NOT want to but I really don't see why you can't tell us how you can confirm this. Did you put it into a PAL console, or into your computer? If it's the latter, could you post a screenshot?
Without proof this topic just serves to make things slightly more confusing and complicated for us in the EU. I doubt that Harmonix would have any major problem, if they did then they'd just lock or delete the topic.
Not that I'm trying to kill the messenger here, if you can prove it then you're saving me a lot of money. I just don't feel right passing up this game, that I have been excited about for so long, solely on the word of a newbie to the forums witohut proof.

The problem here is that Harmonix doesn't own a big chunk of the content (the music) in the game. I'm sure if it was up to Harmonix, the 360 version would be region-free and the PS3 downloadable songs could be shared with five of your friends.
But the record companies just aren't going to allow that.

I don't think that's the case.
I mean, what's the sense in locking the 360 version, when the PS3 version is region free anyway? If the record companies would'nt allow it there would have been some kind of problem with the region free games of the PS3, don't you think?
God, I hope it's not true and the 360 version is region free, I don't want to miss out on the DLC.

:P I don't want to miss out on the GAME. I'm genuinely considering getting myself one of those xbox 360 arcade's imported from the US as well so that I can play it. I'd get a ps3 (and I still might, I'd rather have a different console than by an american duplicate of one I already own JUST to play one game) but I don't think there are any games on it that I actually WANT other than rock band, and it's far too pricey.
Guitar Hero has been my hobby and obsession, Rock Band is even more so. I'm going crazy! XD

Ok, cheers mate. I'm sure you've saved a lot of people quite a lot of money.
I very nearly ordered a copy today, if I hadn't have seen this then I would have spend a ton of money and found myself being extremely pissed off when it actually arrived and didn't work.
Thanks again!

Damn, I won't buy a US Xbox just for the DLC, people would call me stupid.
I just can hope that Sony will release US Prepaid Cards soon....

If it's North america, then no, it won't work. Just buy a PS3. It's worth it. And bluray region 1 includes Japan and America -- only relates to movies, but it sure is sweet.
