Hi :), I started this thread to replace our Rock Band Events thread. I figured we can still chat in here until I secure more local venues to play at. Most of us know eachother in here but if for those of you who are new and stumble accross this thread... We are a group of Denver Rockers (most, if not all are on the Xbox 360) who have been having a blast performing Rock Band at local bars and resturaunts around Denver, CO. You can check out more information here: www.myspace.com/deathofthearcade .
I'm gonna kick this off by mentioning that the new Bass Guitar is worth getting, so go pick it up! Also, considering that there will not be any locations to support a Rock Band 2 kick off party, I might (pending the wifes approval) offer up a release party at my house this weekend. I'll post up later with details!

I'm really in need of a good jam session after this week is through.
(It'll be my Birthday Weekend, BTW ;))
I won't be able to make Old Chicago's tonight. An emergency came up that caused me to miss two nights of work already, so... a little sleep and a lot of work are on the agenda for this particular "Hump Day".
Guess I'd better get ready to sing a whole new list of songs. D-day approacheth! :D

I have a couple of parties to attend this weekend for family, and Rock Band doesnt come out until Sunday. So the release party may have to wait till next weekend :(. I know by next week for sure. Sorry.

Hey man. Sorry again about the confusion. Like I said, subscribe to this thread or check the my space once and a while for the latest Rock Band events in Denver (or at my house ;)). Oh, and welcome to the forums!!
To everyone, awesome time last night! thanks for helping me unlock a total of 56 songs. BIG thanks are in order to Mr. IamBillPardy for scoring that copy of Rock Band 2 early and bringin it by for us all to drool over. I also hate him today for teasing me with the damn game till 5:00 am and now making me wait until Sunday to touch it again !! Anyways, I already posted up the pics from last night on my space: www.myspace.com/deathofthearcade . Go check em out!

I Went to an anime con today and was kind of another reason I left early yesterday.
First off, everyone else that plays Rock Band besides I guess our circle (only term I can think of) makes me want to kill them. Seriously, no one downloads music unless it's free and people were sooooo afraid of the metal songs.
Though I had my rock star moment today when the band I was playing with couldn't pick a song and so the crowd started chanting "STILL ALIVE!" It was then that I raised my arm and flipped them all off. My band finally decided to pick a song and chose Blink 182. This was when I took off the guitar and handed it to someone and yelled "**** THIS!" And walked off.
I'm Bill Pardy and I'm a f**kin' rock star.
And you got one more day YRDaddy, you'll be fine!

Awesome time last night. I figured out why the drums kept breaking combo and why Chris really didn't break much.
its because i am a MONSTER!
i had a nice 12 hour drum marathon yesterday, & im still not done. even got a couple 100%'s (Eye of the Tiger, White Wedding). and Everlong can go suck itself.

I have the 8 hrs or so we all put in on Friday night, plus another 8 or 9 hrs yesterday and you still have more fans than my band when I checked the "Friends Leaderboards" last night!! You suck :p!! I still havn't unlocked all the songs but I found out (by reading these forums) that I've been playing the wrong mode:mad:. I should finish unlocking them all by tonight. Kazlam, did you get yourself the new drums, or are you going straight to the ION kit?

In anycase I'll add you guys to my XBL mine is *ahem* Bootsy McWhiskr and you know, don't ask about the name...ImBillPardy was taken and I thought of the dumbest name possible and that came to mind. In anycase Sara's is Eien Akumu, I'll add you guys next time I'm on Live.
And this game is ALOT more easier in 5 Gold Starring expert songs. I've destroyed Lit, Linkin Park, Offspring and a few others so far... And **** this game makes me realize I suck at guitar all over again...
And last I checked I think I'm one of the top 200 or so bands...
Also if anyone is interested these are the hidden achievements in the game...

Jammed before it released, rocked hard just after it hit streets, and then... again the next night! :D
Thanks, everyone, for helping turn my week around. Big props to HMX for a stellar game, too!!
I was gonna pick up a rb2 kit, but my GameStop buddy's first-hand information says the GHWT kit is a lot better: quieter & more sensitive.
One flaw I see in that reasoning. The GHWT kit has one extra pad... doesn't it? I don't know, though. I play drums like you do vocals. :p

yes it does, but it will work with the game. both kits will work on both games. i think it would be weird playing the intro on 'Down With the Sickness' using a cymbal pad...
im gonna check in with meck77 and see how his ION's are holding up after a couple weeks.
its only been a couple days but he says they are great, still getting used to them. he figured the issues from the reviewers about the cymbals not registering were because the wingnut on top was screwed too tight. he had to loosen them so the cymbal would move when hit, much like a real one

Damn Gamer, I completely forgot its was your b-day last weekend! Sorry. To make up for it, I got an extra set of drums nowadays. I'll sell em to ya dirt cheap (I'm talkin "change in the sofa cheap") if your interested. You'll be kickin kazlams kaz-azz in no time! That goes for anyone else too, I'll just give Gamer 1st dibs! Make an offer ;).
I gotta agree with the ease of gold starring nowadays. The $100 gold star challange difinitley has to be withdrawn from future Rock Band Nights, sorry :(. I played maybe 12 songs last night with kazlam and we gold starred 4 or 5, & this is comming from a guy who never gold starred on Rock Band 1!! Way easier!
I played around with the band logo editor last night trying to come up with a Death of the Arcade logo that I could use in the game and on flyers and shirts. I tried to keep it simple for silkscreening t-shirts put I might have made it too simple. I don't know. I'll load it and post it up in a little bit so you guys can tell me whatcha think.

I noticed the problem with the post also. If you refresh by "last post" at the top of the xbox threads, then it shows up. It also shows up if you search for "Denver". Still kinda sucks if your a random new guy in Denver and you can't find it .
...and now, my official review of the new Strat:
Out of the box, its the exact same size as the old Strat. The strap that comes with it is a little shorter, so much so that I can't get to my usual position. I would have probably got a new strap anyways for cosmetics but now I have to for function. Speaking of cosmetics. This thing is ugly! The fake wood grain looks cheap and straight out of the 60's! This thing is difinitley going to need a decal makeover. The fret buttons are a little less clicky and feel good. There is no change to the button layout other than a raised plactic guard around the START button so now you know the difference if trying to activate overdrive with the BACK button. There is no "click" or spring in the strum bar like the new bass but I always liked the no click so it doesn't bother me. The "throw" of the strum is a little shorter, I guess that will help strum faster.
Heres the wierd part. This thing has a new auto calibration thing thats suppose to be cool. So I use it (remember, we never touched the original game settings Friday night, everything is still set at 0 / 0 and it seemed fine), and the auto calibration changes my settings to +77 / +45! I thought this was ridiculas so I try again. This time I get +84 / +48! So I went with the new settings and played about 5 songs. The calibrations seems ok to me, but you all know that I'm not the best judge when it comes to the calibration :p. I'm gonna have to get some of your opinions to see if these settings are right, it just seems a little extreme to me.
Other than that, no big difference in playing. The overdrive activation seemed better. I wouldn't recommend running out to buy it or anything unless you needed a new one, and I don't think there is anything on it that would persuade you Les Paul lovers to switch. I'm sure you will all get your chance to try it soon so you can have your own opinion ;).

Not to be facetious or anything, but did you make sure the room was dark and make a circle around your fingers where the guitar calibrates? Light and outside forces can affect it. Also make sure the guitar is literally right in front of the screen.

All the lights where off on the house & I held the Strat directly in front of the T.V. while the "seizure inducing" lights flashed. I got a similar result both times so I guess the calibration is where Harmonix thinks it should be .

Weird. I used the manual calibration method and it worked beautifully.

I'm not saying it didn't work, I just thought it was odd that it was adjusted so much. Maybe it calibrated to where it is suppose to be . Like I said, it feels ok to me but it is usually the drummer who notices the lag. So we will have to get an expert drummers opinion before I pass judgment.
And, sadly, no. I have not heard anything from Old C's yet. I did hear back from the "Sunday or Monday" venue which was Benders Tavern. Dispite the managers recommendation for a "Rock Band Night", the owners have decided to go with an "Open Mic" night instead :(. I've been busy this week preparing my house for sale so I hav'nt been able to get out and about to other places. Now that my wife and I are no longer playing foster parents to my nephew, maybe we can hit up downtown this weekend for some more prospects. I'll keep you guys posted.

My xbox is giving me troubles and I might have to send it in for repair... I am getting "unreadable disk" no matter what I put in it. The sad part about this, is that it's going to take 3 to 4 weeks to fix if I send it in (not to mention another $100 because my warranty was up in April ), and I need it in exactly 2 weeks! I have a feeling that the lens might just be dirty considering the "film" that my game disk has on it from the smoke machine. So, I am going to perform a little surgery on it myself to clean the laser that reads the disk. If that doesn't work then I'll have to send it in. Bernie has already volunteered his box for any Rock Band Nights that come up until I get it back, but he has some licensing issues between his hard drive and his xbox that he needs to work out in order to use the DLC offline. Last resort will be to buy a new Elite and sell my old one when it comes back. Either way... the show must go on ;)!

I think Bernie just needs to use the license transfer tool on the Xbox site, redownload each license on his machine, then he can use them offline. This worked for me. Hopefully he hasn't already used it once.

Perhaps I should define "facetious" for you? I've noticed your use of the word has become a bit... ubiquitous as of late. :p
fa·ce·tious
Pronunciation: \fə-ˈsē-shəs\
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French facetieux, from facetie jest, from Latin facetia
Date: 1599
1 : joking or jesting often inappropriately : waggish <just being facetious>
2 : meant to be humorous or funny : not serious <a facetious remark>
awesome news about Old C. now for parking downtown on a friday night...thats a breeze.

One week in and i am getting the hang of these. What i mean by that is, that a blue note is a blue note, and it really doesnt matter which you hit when blue comes on the charts, but it looks kinda dumb when your hearing a floor tom and I am hitting my ride(blue cymbal). As the week has progressed i am starting to look and feel more like I know what the hell i am doing. Anyway these drums are AWESOME, pads are soft and bounce very well(no more missed notes) and the double bass and cymbals(I have all three) just make it so much fun. Would love to get together and let you guys try them, why dont we see if we can get together somewhere and I can bring them with or if you and some of your crew want to come to loveland I have very nice RB setup and we can play at my house. The surgery was a complete success!! Umm... except I forgot to put 5 screws back into place before snapping the plastic back together :o. So I gotta open up her up one more time to put them back, but the lens cleaning seemed to work like a charm! I played for a few hours last night with no problems.
I found out what the problem is on the new drums. I can't "bang" em like the old set. Thats why I was getting double hits the 1st night I tried them. You have to play them with soft taps, like kazlam, which is why he didn't have any problems. I don't know if I like this because most of the people that play on the drums (including me) bang it out. I might try bse's suggestion and apply the pads from the old set to see if that helps any. But so far, I'm not very happy :(.
Using a bass pedel to activate "overdrive" on the new Strat is pretty cool! It takes a little getting use to but it's fun when you get the hang of it :).

Yea! I found out by reading a thread in the forums. Kinda sucks that the instruction manual never mentioned it or anything. But like I said, it takes some getting use to. With the "overdrive" problem fixed on the new Strat, it is still easier (I think) to tilt the guitar up instead of concentrating on using your foot. Probably just habit though.

Actually you can bang on them quiet vigorously, but you have to hold the sticks with a little less firmness, Kinda have to let them bounce in your hands. The reason for such is because the drum kit is far more sensitive, so if you hold the sticks firmly you are going to bounce them on the heads therefore creating a double note. :p
Oh and grats on the surgery.;)

...though I fear I'm the only schmuck among us who's yet to upgrade from the Rock Band 1 experience. Guess that's what these weekend jam sessions have been for!
Y'know, I was thinking - rather than let this thread die, why not use it more in line with the section it's posted in? (Band Wanted)
Every week, in the days leading up to the Old C's gig, we can post up songs we're interested in performing, and what part(s) we'd like to play. Others can take the "open spots" as needed, and we can arrive at the gig with a general setlist already "sketched out". Of course things will change and adapt once we're there, mostly due to non-forum participants. But at least the "core group" will have a good idea before arriving of songs that we'd like to cover and different band lineups.
... Thoughts?

No, not necessarily. I've been considering other, more restaurant-friendly songs for our Friday-night debut. Y'know, stuff the audience would know well enough to sing along. (Jukebox Hero comes to mind. Been practicing the guitar and vocals on that one.)
However, I do feel we should introduce them to Riding on the Wind sometime later in the night, when energy is high. Been practicing that drum intro on the new kit? ;)

I like the idea but I think we should limit it. Definitely we should come up with a core group of songs that we think will get the crowd going.
Riding on the Wind is a definite go. Depends on which of us feels like belting it out. But I think we can be a little more open with our song selection considering the crowd GR.
Others that I can almost guarantee that'll be played: Eye of the Tiger, Livin on a Prayer, More Than A Feeling...amongst others.

...And I was actually thinking sorta the opposite. Saving the more "well known" songs for the less "Rock Band familiar" people, and our core group performing the good lesser known stuff. But please, perform any song you guys want, remember its your "rock Band Night" too! In all though, I really don't think it will matter much either way. Their was a strong enough crowd there at the 1 time gig on 9/10 that knew Rock Band and what it was about, and that was without advertising. Honestly, I doubt that we will be able to get in as many performances as at previous locations because the sign up sheet will fill up quick with other people wanting to play.
Something else we gotta start thinkin about though... How are we splitting up for the Rock Band Live contest (that is... if you are participating) which will be going on within the next couple of weeks? We all have our special talents, but I still don't know how this thing is going to be judged. I've been in touch with the person in charge of promoting it at KTCL radio, but I still don't know if she will let Death of the Arcade host or not. But if I find out any information I'll let you guys know. In the mean time, I would like to call dibs on kazlam! Kazlam... will you please be the "lead singer" in my band :p?
Later! :D
Oh yea! Take a look at the new Death of the Arcade logo. I like it much better!

if by 'lead singer' you mean 'drummer', then yes. i kinda forgot about that whole thing. i wouldve thought we would have to register ahead of time. is everyone expected to just show up with their band? i guess that fits in with 'But if I find out any information I'll let you guys know'.

Wait?! What? A Battle of the bands? Then I need two more members already offhand.

Actually, I hadn't forgotten about it. But since information hadn't ever been announced for it I kinda gave up on the idea. If it's anything like Cruefest was though, we're not in for a treat.
It's most likely going to strictly be score based would be my guess. But as far as taking any part of a band, I'll take any instrument needed. Especially with RB2, in which singing is actually easier and more forgiving, I could probably belt out almost anything on hard/expert. But I'll be willing to take whatever. I don't think we're going to need to divide up between hard/expert bands in this though. Hopefully the calibration ends up being ok (hopefully someone learned their lesson from Cruefest).

It's not really battle of the bands. We are talking about the "Rock Band Live" concert that is coming to Denver mid-October. There is a contest (like at Cruefest), where the winners get to perform Rock Band on stage at the concert. There will be a contest the day of the concert but there will also be contest(s) before hand put on by a local radio station. I'm trying to convince the radio station to use my services for hosting the before concert contest but like I said, it's still up in the air at this point and I have no idea how they are judging the thing. Last I heard, they would probably start promoting / holding contests the 1st or 2nd week of October. Is anyone planning on going either way (contest winners or not)?
Kazlam - Thanks for joinin my band! I was taking 1 more attempt at getting you to sing but I'll settle for drummer I guess .

You're right, that does make a bit more sense. Again, I'm not as familiar with what we might encounter at Old Chicago's. Guess I'm stuck in the idea that we need to "draw people in" by playing songs they know. (and playing them well ;))
But yeah... having fun with the lesser known stuff could be very cool too!
EXs:
Play "Critical Acclaim" and leave others to do "Afterlife"/"Almost Easy".
(Let's Duet :))
Play "Riding on the Wind", "Devil's Child", etc. and let others tackle "You've Got Another Thing Coming"
(though I've yet to see much Judas love outside our group of regulars)
Play "Peace of Mind" and let others destroy "More than a Feeling"
(I hear one girl at the trial run KILLED it on MtaF vocals)

I could do sing either Afterlife or Almost Easy...tough choice since both are fun (any votes?)
Actually last time we played Hellion/Electric Eye and some random guy (played bass on it) appreciated the choice.
Yes, moar Boston is almost a given.

"You Got Another Thing Comin"
"More Than A Feelin'"
"Afterlife"
and even
"Skull Crusher Mountian"
Where all performed by other bands (as in, not the regular roadies).
Also, I may be down for a little Rock Band 2 tonight with ya, but it would have to be at my house. I gotta check with the wife and I'll text ya later. Cool?

I think it's safe to say we'd ALL like to play, else we wouldn't be here. :p

Okay, I'm doing this quite a bit later than I'd planned, but...
Hopefully people will still read in time.
Here are the songs I'd really like to get to tonight. I'll be needing band-mates.
First, I'd like to "reserve" Critical Acclaim on behalf of myself and YRDaddy. Whether he wants to do guitar or bass during our "duet" is up to him, but we'll need a drummer and one plastic guitar/bass player.
Second is a personal "demon" I need to exorcise. If our host will allow an exception to his "single-song set" guideline, I'd like to screech through (you all saw it coming) a Judas Priest two-fer!! Either of two pairings. I'm still not sure.
1.Tried & True: Hellion/Electric Eye -> Riding on the Wind
2.INTENSE: Fever -> Devil's Child
I can pretty much guarantee Kazlam will wrestle any and all contenders off the drums for any of these songs. We'll need damn GOOD guitarist, or someone who's willing to play below their level to make it sound killer. ;)
Another I'd like to sing kind of goes against our playing the "lesser known" songs", but... I've been singing Journey all week. I'd like to nail Juke Box Hero, if I may. I'll need a veritable guitar prodigy for this one, since -y'know- that's what the song's about. It's also rated highest of all on drums (3/5 by RB2), so whoever's up for that "challenge"...
Also, we should have enough Voxtar (Vocals/Guitar) players in attendance that we could introduce Old C's to Bang Camaro. Rock Rebellion, anyone? :)
If we can squeeze it in, and I can find a guitarist that can kill it this time (*Couch*Bernie!*sneeze* - Excuse me!) , I'd like to sing Shockwave.
Oh, and who wants to do RATM's Testify?
... I think that's all for now. :D

if no one steps up i will, i prefer the other two A7X songs anyway. maybe ill take bass/guitar for a change

i dont see the relation between the two, other than high singing voices... Journey vs. Foreigner

If you want to take guitar/bass on Critical Acclaim, I'll take drums.
And if we do the Judas 2fer, I'll take bass or guitar.
I'll gladly sing Testify. Might not be a bad starter.

I should have specified. All the songs I listed above are ones I'm interested in singing. Or, in the case of Testify, um... screaming. (Because Zack De Larocha can't sing. Proven fact.)
Wasn't our "starter" (as in 9pm, because I'm thinking more down-tempo for the earlier warm-up songs) going to be AC/DC?

No relation, other than my frequently confusing the two. Foreigner's Juke Box Hero it is. Anyone feel the need to "keep on rocking"? (ain't never gonna stop)
