Why call it a J-RPG..?
Almost every [good] RPG that has ever been made is from Japan.

I loved eternal sonata for the most part, if you have played both, would you say its on par?
for me its the combat system that makes or breaks it

The back of the box said 1-4 players, and that intrigued me. Even if it's just in the battles, it sounds fun.

at least it makes for a good drinking game-a sip whenever someone says 'blastia', two sips whenever someone says 'aer krene' and a full shot whenever you hear 'entelexia' or 'apatheia'. Just don't play with real alcohol, or you'll be dead within 20 minutes
I also love :
After nearly every quest in the first half of the game, your party spends 5 minutes saying their good-byes to each other only to -surprise!- find some reason to reunite ''20 seconds'' later. You could make a fine drinking game out of that, too.
other than that( and the lame Karol) i really like the game. A lot better than Eternal Sonata who's battle bored me to death :S

I'm sure Fallout, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Morrowind, Planescape Torment, Lionheart, and Temple of Elemental Evil would like to have a word with you.
And I haven't even gotten into the Gold Box games...

And hence why I stated "almost all good...", which still holds true. Many RPGs originate from Japan, and even when they originate from America/Europe, there isn't much distinction save the fact that those ones tend to revolve around semi-realistic Middle Ages scenarios. All in all, there's little point in remarking that a RPG is japanese, as it makes little difference in the first place; it serves just as much purpose as, in example, stating whether or not the game's box art features a main character.
ToS ftw, btw.
