So my friend has the retail Rockband already and was complaining about the drums. I just thought he didn't know how to play, until I saw this posted at another forum:
"Okay so I am the assistant manager at a game store in Vegas and we just received and email from EA as well as our vendors saying that there will be a shortage on Rock Band bundles due to defective parts and that many have been recalled and many bundles are out there with defective parts still in them after reading further I see something in relation to the drums may not be out until Feb. but they are trying to resolve the issue before Christmas. I heard this part from a vendor all the EA email stated was that there was a defect and information on the recall. "
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope this isn't the case, but I would really like some official confirmation on this matter because it would help me sleep easier at night. Thanks.

I have a feeling this is referring to the demo drums, but I could be wrong.

Hmmm maybe info got mixed up with the best buy demo? I mean as far as we've heard from other people with it they have no issues.

Funny, the girl in WalMart said something about the drums not being out soon either... but I figured she was dumb. Harmonix, comment please?

"Defective Returns and Recall Program
Objective
Our Objective is to provide the best possible consumer experience should any peripheral fail to perform as expected
Process
The Rock Band Speacial edition Contains three seperate notices (on the box, in the box, inside software instructions) to contact Electronic Arts, Inc. via the following Url Http://support.ea.com/rockband
If a consumer brings the defective product to retail, we suggest retailers recommed the consumer contact EA directly via the URL above. IF the consumer is not able to access the URL, They can call (650)628-1001 to receive the same support.
Recall
We suggest that all retailers who have already obtained their product to send the product either to the vendor it was receved from or Contact EA support to resolve the issue.
Sorry for any inconveince this may cause and here at EA we are trying to resolve this as soon as possible."

You...MORON!
This was already known; there's no general defect or recall. The policy is that if part of the bundle is defective due to a random manufacturing error, the consumer has to contact EA directly for a replacement rather than taking it back to the store. If the store gets a returned defective instrument before realizing it's not supposed to take it, the store should go ahead and contact EA directly.
Don't throw people into a panic like that...yeesh.

DUDE, all that says is an instrument doesn't work, tell the customer to contact EA, don't bring it back to the store.
EDIT: LOCK THIS THREAD.

That doesn't seem like a blanket statement to cover a part that has been returned. That, to me, sounds like if a retailer has already obtained the retail box, they should send it back. I mean, I hope I am wrong and that someone from Harmonix (hmxsean?) replies and tells me such, because I have been looking forward to this game since it was announced.

That's for stores with demo units, most likely.

yeah why shipp a defective product knowing its defective just to have to replace them all after luanch. not good buisnes. i think hmx would rather delay the luanch then lose all the money replaceing the equipment and ruining thier good name.

Me too. It so brutal knowing we are ready to rock but must wait. So here's the plan:
1. Get a job at EBgames/Gamestop(Just quit your old job. This is Rock Band we are talking about here!)
2. When behind the counter get the box.
3. Knock the shoppers and other employees into a coma when you knock them in the head with the box.
4. RUN TO THE CAAAAR!!! RUN FOR YOUR COOOOOOOPY!!!!!!("Run To The Hills Refrence:P)

That looks a lot better.
Piratepwnsninja, I'm pretty sure one of two things is happening.
1) You're a jerk who's trying to stir people up for fun.
2) You're unintentionally blowing things WAY out of proportion.
Either way, stop.

Yes, because I love wasting my time by intentionally pissing people off.
Look, I just came here to ask a question because of something I heard about a game I was really looking forward to. If you consider that blowing things out of proportion, then fine, I guess I am guilty of that. Here's to hoping everything goes smoothly and that on Tuesday we are all rocking out. That's all I wanted to make sure of. But hey, thanks for the accusatory post. :)

Actually I do. My understanding is if said statement had any basis it'd be ALL OVER the internet. Instead the web traffic is filled with buzzing reviews and midnight launch hype. You decide.

Pretty sure the employee is just confused by the standard return/defect instructions sheet that is included by default in the special edition bundle. It requests you to go through EA instead of returning to retailer and could be misconstrued by someone with poor reading comprehension.
In the absense of credible information or sources, this thread is rumor and speculation of the worst kind. And I will not leave it open to cause a mass panic on the weekend before release.
