Who do you think is the better drummer.

I've gotta vote for Keith Moon. Gotta be the best drumming I have ever heard. I mean he made drums a main instrument not just a back beat.

gotta go with peart on this, I take into consideration that Moon was famous for not finishing shows while peart is the show still lol. Also the amount of music that Rush has released in comparison

Yeah, I would say Moon is probaby the "better" drummer because he played it in a totally different way than anyone else at the time.

However, if it was ~1976 I'd rather have Peart as my drummer because Moon was a ****ty bandmate.

talent wise they're both excellent drummers. Saying one is better than the other is pointless and a matter of opinion. I prefer Moon's style as it is more up beat.

Both incredible drummers, ahead of their time and completly insane.

But I'll go with Pert on this one, for no particular reason.

History of Rock forum has good discussion on these kind of topics. I went with Neil Peart because he is both more influential and more technical. Keith Moon died way too early and his legacy lives on, its a shame we couldnt see how he wouldve panned out over his career as a drummer.

peart seems to have so much fun when he is drumming and makes it look effortless, Kieth moon not my drum of tea

We had Peart vs. Moon vs. Bonham, there.

I'll give the same response as I did in that thread: Steve Flynn

I refuse to vote due to the fact that I favor no one of these drummers over the other. I could listen to both for hours on end.

Where's the option "I don't know crap about drumming so I can't really say but I want a button to push"??

Neil Peart is hands down 100 times better first of all moon was extreamly sloppy when he played and was all over the place. Peart is very precice and has better drum solos. the way Pearts solos flow together from one part to another is very good and when Moon played he would just bang randomly and somehow it sounded a little good but peart knows what he was doin

Neil Peart no doubt

I saw Rush in concert last year, so I'm biased towards Peart because I was able to see him. Moon was an idiot who used horse tranquilizers, and I never got to see him. And if you're a part of a band, you can't do stupid stuff like that.

Why does one in ten first posts have to be a necro of a terrible thread?

Are you guys really serious? Keith Moon! There's no contest!

Buddy Rich is probably better than both.

keith moon by quite a bit. i like rush and think peart is a great drummer, but hes just your typical uber talented prog drummer, for all the amazing things he does with the kit, it almost seems sort of lifeless because its so spot-on technically. moon on the other hand was wild and crazy and his drum style reflected that, it was completely all over the place and unique, it almost seemed random. i just enjoy that chaotic style more than the precise (albeit technically great) drumming of peart.

Peart writes the lyrics to a number of Rush's songs, but Keith was way more talented as a player of the drumsssszzsz

Vote # 100.

Keith Moon.

Honestly, I'd say they are equal. They both are very talented and can't be compared. So, I went with the band I enjoy more.

Why is the vote so tight? Moon>>>>>>>>>>>>>Peart

Mainly because Peart is, in addition to being one of the major creators of the modern drum solo, is a highly varied percussionist as well as one of the preeminent clinicians in the world of drumming. He has over three decades of work behind him, and writes his own material.

Moon was a very unique musician, but unique doesn't always equal good. He became known more for his stunts than he did his musicianship, and his body of work is, shall we say, significantly smaller. He has a phenomenal influence on presentation of rock percussion, but not so much on the playing itself (I would wager that even if Moon were still alive today, he wouldn't be much of a clinician; he seemed like he didn't know what he was doing half the time, he simply put his sticks to the heads and rattled stuff off...).

I guess it comes down to showmanship versus musicianship. And the results, as one would expect from the music-consuming public, are actually closer than I would've expected.

...I, despite pretty clearly stating my preference here, thought Moon would win in a landslide.

I'm in love with Keith Moon! Crazy, random, insane on drums... The guy was an amazing allaround drummer... I love The Who to death to, my favorite band and always will be...

But I have to go with Neil on this... He's an amazing drummer and overall musician... What the guy does is just slightly past what Moon does...

I love you Moon, you'll always be my favorite drummer, but I believe that Peart has you beat on this... :(

Bright or not, he's absolutely right. Which is why I also voted for Peart.

I think alot of people just like Moon's personality over Peart's. That doesn't make him a better drummer.
