This list assumes that drum fills can be added, basslines can be subtly reworked (whilst keeping the main themes intact), and swearing will be either changed up or censored somehow.

A little bit of everything - some well known and other less. Some high tempo - others low. Some heavy - others softer.

1. Pink Floyd - Time - Needs to cut the intro down. The rest of the song is very interesting on all instruments so not too much explanation required here. I was having a hard time picking a Pink Floyd song that wouldn't feel too repetitive for any single instrument, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better (good sounding) song by PF with that in mind. This is a balanced song.

2. Deftones - Knife Party - The constant on and off feeling of the rythm section is great and varied. The bass is constantly changing during verses and during choruses it's very broken sounding, adding to the difficulty and keeping it fresh. The guitar is chord heavy, but as we all know from GH2, chords can be varied and fun too. The vocalist will have a BALL with this song, theres the heavy singing and the great female vocals during the interlude.

3. Nirvana - Breed - While In Bloom is a good song, it lacks the utter energy that Breed has. This is a straight up punky grunge song with a great drumroll intro, grunge-y guitar riffs, and great vocals. The bassline is pretty repetitive, though, and may need reworking. This song is balanced besides the bass.

4. Radiohead - Just - In the whole Radiohead discography, this song is the most rock band worthy for it's energy and great guitar solo. Not much explanation required. Guitarists will love it.

5. Modest Mouse - 3rd Planet - Rock Band can be about indie rock too. All the different sections of the song will keep it fresh and interesting. I suspect that this song would be a favorite among vocalists.

6. Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug - This song is horrid for guitar riffs, but this could be fixed by making background sounds (like Trent's OOoo'ing) and synthesizers to guitar duty (reworking synth to be more guitar sounding). Basslines would also have to be added and more prominent. The drummer would love it.

7. Opeth - Beneath The Mire - The first metal song on the list. It has growling and also has clean vocals while still being heavy and melodic. It isn't complete death metal and it isn't ***** metal either, and is a quite technical song. I tried using a more popular Opeth song, but this one strikes a perfect balance for every instrument and clean vox/growls.

8. Porcupine Tree - Shallow - Great songwriting and vocals that remind me of a more mature Tool. The 3/4 buildup is absolutely amazing for all instruments. I don't think there's a weak link in this song at all and wouldn't think twice about adding it into RockBand. Balanced song.

9. System of a Down - Chop Suey! - I can't think of a more widely known song by SoaD, and one that would work well in RockBand context too. Very balanced and sounds like it could be a pretty tough rhythmic workout for all instruments.

10. Tool - Ænema - Tool is such a good choice for RockBand because it isn't quite "metal" in the most extreme way. It is light enough for any pop-listener and also technical/prog enough for the more "metal" among us. The "****" could be turned into "damn" and if that's even too much.. "hate" would work. Extremely balanced.

11. Tiger Army - Under Saturn's Shadow - Psychobilly! Man, this song has it all.. great vocals, a groovy rhythm section, and awesome surfy/psychobilly rock guitar. A great deviation from the standard top40 stuff that works within RB context. Balanced, but the vocalist has a chance to really shine here.

12. Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Of all the Metallica songs, this one stuck out as one that wouldn't utterly bore the vocalist the most. It has the melody and the thrashy parts too, so the other sections don't get the rubber band arms that many metal songs would probably give. If there's a pre-Black Album Metallica song that deserves a spot in RB, this is it. Balanced, except less so for vocals.

13. Supertramp - It's A Long Road - How can we forget Supertramp? There's too much synth/piano work in most of their songs, but this one is a classic and very interesting for all 4 players. The piano can EASILY be changed into guitar parts (the rhodes stuff at the start, the organ solo stuff). The breakdown in the middle is one of my favorite classic rock moments.

14. Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower - Jimi needs some representation, and of all the more well-known songs this one stuck out as the most fun to play for all the instruments. Balanced and such a classic!

15. The Who - My Generation - Such a popular song that would be a BLAST to play for all instruments. Vocalists would be in heaven, guitarists would like it a TAD less than the other instruments.

16. The Offspring - Have You Ever - Some punk love. This isn't too poppy to be annoying after repeated listens, and it isn't too skate-thrash or garage-punk to be ugly to listen to either. The interlude is just icing on the cake for a punk song and it keeps the song fresh. Balanced.

17. Jefferson Airplane - Somebody To Love - Vocalists will love this song to get their "Cable Guy" on, plus more female vox is king. Drummers won't enjoy this song so much, so it would have to be given some interesting fills. Vocalism++, Drummer--.

18. Our Lady Peace - Superman's Dead - Some 90's pop-rock doesn't hurt, does it? Great vocals, and interesting rhythm section. The vocals @ 2:24 with the phased out effect are really cool and I would really enjoy hearing myself like that. The only weak link is the guitars, but even then, it's hardly an issue. The vocals would be the greatest part of this song. Why-ee-i-ee-i-ee yaaa superman's dead! Ee-i-ee-i-ee yaa is it in my head?

19. Pearl Jam - Jeremy - The guitars are varied and fun, the bass is in your face as the main riff, the drums are standard-fare, and the vocals will be fun to try to mimic. We need some sort of Pearl Jam/Creed/Nickleback vocals in there to appease the masses, and I can't think of a better workaround than this great song. Balanced and also fun!

20. The Smashing Pumpkins - Zero - I can't think of any other vocalist that I wouldn't want butchered for fear of my ears bleeding. I can't think of much to say about this song, but Tonight, Tonight was my second choice for Smashing Pumpkins but this won out due to the weird guitar solo, and lack of violin. Drum-lite.

21. Coldplay - God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - A song that will make metalheads cringe, and pop kiddies giddy. We need more pop representation and ways to make our girlfriends want to play and I can't think of many better ways than Coldplay. Plus, c'mon.. Coldplay's actually pretty good if you ignore the bad stigma attached to enjoying it. Definitely needs some different drum fills though.

22. 3 Inches of Blood - Deadly Sinners - A metal song for the whole family! It's not too brutal, it has the Maiden-esque guitars, and most importantly, it's a fun song to listen to. The demo version of this song floating around on the internet (I think their myspace or something has it) is much better than the version on "Advance and Vanquish" so if this song were to be looked at as a potential candidate, I'd prefer that version definitely. Balanced and fun!

23. Green Day - Basket Case - A good pick if you want people to actually want to play the song (other than 14 year old pop-kiddies of course) and also have "Green Day" advertised all over the cover of it to sell it. It's a fun song and I can't think of too many problems with it. Balanced.

24. Arch Enemy - Carry The Cross - This is more of a personal pick than a "this would actually fit really well with RB!" pick. The drummer would get quite a workout here, with the steady double kick rhythm throughout. The whole Anthems of Rebellion album would probably be a better choice (as pertaining to accessibility). Balanced.

25. Danzig - Dirty Black Summer - A personal favorite Danzig song of mine that would fit really well into the RB mold (without the ambient intro). I can't think of any weak links to the song, the bass sounds like it could suck with the single note thing goin on but the rhythm could be altered to make it a fun challenge. The guitar solo is short and sweet.

I'd like some input and will keep checking back into the thread to see what everyone else thinks of my setlist. Be sure to comment.. especially if you think I'm wrong and stupid and what not. ;)

i agree with alot of the bands, just not the song choices. for example, i would pick a better NIN or opeth song

Thanks for feedback thus far! It lets me know my work here didn't go to waste.. :)

Which ones? I was trying to think of a more popular Opeth song to put on there, but I couldn't think of one that would sound as good (and play as good) as this one without straying too far into the growling vocals or too far into the clean vocals. This one is varied and balanced between the two.

As for NIN, same deal.. which song would fit better in RockBand?

for opeth, i'd go for something without screaming(you know, alot of people have been complaining about doing those kinds of vocals for this game) so i would go with windowpane. if i had to choose one that had both growling and clean i would go with the grand conjuration.

as for NIN i would like to see march of the pigs or ruiner.

I think I'll have to disagree on an all-clean Opeth track for simple personal preference. But yeah, Windowpane would be the best all-clean track for sure. I don't really enjoy Grand Conjuration as it's too repetitive (and sounds much longer than it is for that reason).

How could I overlook Ruiner as a candidate? I really love this song and it's one of my favorites. Good choice there, but March of the Pigs would be really boring bass/guitar wise (its in my top3 NIN tracks though, so it would be awesome nonetheless!).

Alot of my choices are reflecting how fun they would actually be in RB context and not just "wow I love that song!"

well, my #1 opeth choice would be black rose immortal, but that is entirely too long for the game

edit: something else to add. for a pearl jam song i'd personally like to see black more than jeremy. jeremy is a good song, but black has an awesome bass+guitar part.
