Paranoid Pre-Order Nightmares Come True!

I head into my local GameStop yesterday to pay off the rest of my bundle. I had placed $30 down about a month ago.

"Okay, that will be $33.10."

So, despite the confirmations and extended conversation I had when ordering the Xbox 360 bundle, the GameStop employee had signed me up for the disc-only version of the game.

My heart sunk.

My pulse raced.

I puked all over the Wiis.

Fortunately, a very thoughtful employee named Pat talked me down, and explained that he could cancel that pre-order and sign me up for a bundle.

And then he said something very interesting: "It's no problem at all, since you're getting the 360 version. PS3, on the other hand, then we'd be in trouble."

Lessons learned: Confirm that bundle before it's too late! And, if you haven't had a chance to reserve the game, there might still be time. Unless you enjoy the PS3.

good for you! Glad you can get it. i payed mine off for the 360 about a month ago.
i don't own a 360 yet, but i'm getting one for chritmas, and i just wanted to make sure i would get the game. (until then, i'm mooching off my friends 360)

I had a similar issue...I purchased it, and after a few days, I had a dream that I got it for the PS3, then I realized that I didn't remember telling the gamestop person that I wanted it for a 360. I called and sure enough, they ordered it for the ps3....close call. I also re confirmed it was the 360 bundle last week. I am sure they are tired of hearing from me. :) I have a thread about that somewhere....but don't feel like looking for it.

Yeah, me too. I just called my Gamestop and made sure they put me down for the right system (I paid off the bundle yesterday). Everything was fine. Except they spelled my name wrong. But meh, no biggie now that I got that fixed.

EA and HMX put the fear into people first with "IT WILL BE SCARCE". then gamestop reinforced this with "WE'RE COMPLETELY SOLD OUT". So people are justifiably worried that maybe their worst fears will come true. I ordered online, so I should have no worries. Gamestop would rather get the extra 20 from shipping than give my copy to someone else.

I just realized that on all my pre-order receipts they store you as a number! My customer# is less than 500! That sounds like I've been shopping there since the store opened.

The day I went into pre-order it, I was like, okay, so you're setting me up for the bundle, the 200 dollar one, right? (before the price drop) and he was like, yeah.

So I should be good.

I actually WENT to my GS where I preordered ( back in AUGUST ) and wanted to confirm my pre-order bundle for X360 and then asked about the midnight release ( not happening ) but he assured me that I'll be getting one.

BTW, my local Gamestop ( Wethersfield, CT ) are getting 22 Xbox360 bundles, 4 PS3 bundles and 7 of the game alone. All of which are pre-orders.

Wow man, thats exactly what happened to me yesterday, I actually went to put another 40 on it and they said I only owed like 25 bucks, my heart sank. I had reserved it when they thought the single bundles were going to come out, but the manager cancel my preorder and put me down for the bundle :)

Damn! I don't know why the PS3 bundle sold out of pre-orders so fast. Maybe since the user base is so small in comparison that they only made so many.

Yeah, he told me that that was the max that they alloted ( sp? ) so I was actually surprised by that myself.

I went to GS yesterday and checked to make sure they had their preorders in. I didn't check my recipt until 3 minutes ago. 200345. All Checks out....

I'm still bringing Molotove Cocktails and matches tuesday when I get off of work.... Just in case.

Just checked here in Tulsa, OK...called GameStop and gave them my first and last name. Dude told me, "You've got the full bundle, bud...don't worry." So I tell him about the stories floating around about pre-orders being screwed up and such, and he was like he hadn't heard a thing about it at that store, so....

Oh, yeah...mine is paid off, but I think $25 down is a safe bet to get one...also told me every store in Tulsa was sold out of pre-orders as of November 12....

So I had to get out of bed and check the slip -- fortunatly, it did indeed say X360 on it, and the world was safe once more. I'm sure I forgot to mention it, the clerk must have just guessed right, or the ps3 wasn't in the system at the time or something.

I say don't worry to anyone who actually pre-ordered this game, it really is just paranoia. You do need to check and MAKE sure that you pre-ordered the bundle and not just the game. I've called my EBGames several times and asked about a shortage, asked how many they had. They told me I was guaranteed my copy, they also said they'll have around somewhere in the teens ordered for release. So really, as long as you pre-ordered just wait and don't worry. Now if you didnd't pre-order, I would just head to a place where they are doing a midnight release party, I'm more than sure you'll get a copy.

EDIT: Oh and they also said they haven't heard anything of a shortage... Which is weird because my EBGames isn't full of idiots (unless it's during the day then a punk uninformed teenager is in there). So really, I wouldn't be too worried about a shortage.
