No, Harmonix (nor EA, nor MTV) has not confirmed anything about the Canadian release date. Both the news of the delay and the December 17 date came from an anonymous source at MTV as paraphrased by a third-party web site. No official statement, such as a press release, has been issued.

It would be very nice if Harmonix would issue an official statement regarding the Canadian release---at this point, that would just be common courtesy in addition to good business. Given their track record, though, I won't be holding my breath. Absent an official statement, we will just have to wait and see if there are physically any units for sale in Canada next week, as that's apparently how we'll find out.

I have no doubt in my mind that the dates in December were placeholders until they were able to get a better guage on how long it would take to have more copies to send to canadian suppliers. My original thought was around the first week of December. Now I know they've been working super hard to get this done, and I would not be suprised if they were able to somehow make the release time.

What does concern me though, is that we don't know. And I'm not going to wait until the morning of to find out if it's true. I've made arrangements where I know 100% they have it, and I will be travelling 2 hours to get it. If it turns out that it's coming out the 22nd, well, someone else can have my pre-order.

I was reading the Future Shop forums, they have actual employees that contribute to the forum. From what they gather, the release date is going to be very close to the 20th. Hopefully they actually heard something and are not just mindlessly guessing.

I'd still plan to keep those alternate arrangements. Every retailer I've spoken to in the Toronto area has either said "delayed" with no specific date or has given me a variety of dates ranging form Dec. 17 to 20th. The only hope some of them have is to get the game only.

As much as I hope there's something to this Future Shop date change, I highly doubt it. They currently have the 360 bundle slated to come out Nov. 19th - a day before the US? Impossible. Stay tuned, I guess...

Right now, I'm somewhat reconciled to the December date becasue I have so much school work right now anyways -- term papers out the ass as it were. But the not-knowing is killing me, I'm refreshing the forum every other paragraph because I want to know how I schedual my week - if the game is going to be in stores afterall, somehow, this week, I don't want to miss my chance.

All we have now is a big friggin pile of conflicting statements, rumour, conjecture, and no definitive black and white statement with a clear official source.

If we could just get the official word from on high, everything would be a lot better.

I called my FS and they had no clue other than if the website says X then it should be here on X.

I called my closest EB Games in Abbotsford and they said their computers still show Dec 20th. I even mentioned to him the the FS website was updated just today and he said there were no updates for them yet.

Well I think the best thing to do here is on Monday morning, call all your close retailers and state that the FS website says nov. 19th. If no luck, call monday evening. Then tuesday morning, tuesday evening, and maybe even wednesday morning, in case the shipment comes in late. Good luck to all :)

I am also Canadian and I'm telling you guys, not to keep your hopes up, because Best Buy (owns Future Shop) headquarters has already told every Best Buy and Future Shop store in the country that it is officially delayed. Just because a website says Nov. 19, doesn't mean a thing. I already checked the computers and there are 0 units in transit and if it were to come out on Tuesday, they shoulda been in transit at least 3-4 days ago or sitting in the warehouse.

How does this not concern me? I live in Canada, I just ordered Rock Band and I work for this company. So if you guys want go ahead and line up on Tuesday morning.

Heh, am I the only one who feels kinda guilty using the easy hammer ons in songs like "Cities on Flame" and "My Name Is Johnus"? I mean, with GH2 hitboxes, trying to HO/PO the whole riff like that would be super-challenging, and impossible in GH1 of course. But with GH3, its just tappatappa-tap.

I find it quite humorous that the majority of people in this thread are going by what their EB manager tells them. I'm a Canadian just like all of you and I'm very confused to what the release date will be and will be very upset if I need to wait another month to play this game (Especially after they announced The Police pack for day one). The point is, EB game employees make little to nothing and they don't really care about your anticipated game coming back and don't give the right information most of the time.

Just for reference:
I just called my Eb games. The conversation with the manager i might add, went like this.
Me: Hey! Do you have a release date for Rock Band?
Him: It says December 20th in our computers, but corporate hasn't confirmed or denied us getting a shipment tomorrow morning. Just call us tomorrow, wait to be called or come in on Tuesday to see if its here.

The Future Shop guy is probably just quoting what he reads on their web page, which, given the reports from FS employees who actually look the product up in their distribution system (and find none are even in transit), is almost certainly a mistake. I expect to see no copies in Canada before Dec 20, and a token shipment then.

I am extremely hesitant to reply to another one of these threads, but I will do so anyway to clarify: we have no additional information for you that you haven't already heard. There has been no attempt on HMX's part to sow confusion. We do not have access to the EB or FS systems, so we can't confirm something we know literally nothing about (an on-schedule release for Canada). If by some freak accident Rock Band shows up in select stores in CA on Tuesday - hooray! Otherwise expect Rock Band to show up in December. Again, I cannot stress enough how much we appreciate your continued patience.

If you ask at the EB you pre-ordered at, they can tell you what place in line you are. My EB told me they will be handing them out in order of pre-order (good for me as I am #2 on the list at my EB) as they get shipments in.

So hold out hope that shipments will be trickling in over the next few weeks.

I've now been to Best Buy and EB Games in Langley, BC. Both stores are saying Dec. 20th. The clerk at EB actually checked the computer database, so even if employees at other stores aren't checking and saying December, their computers probably say the same as them.

Just talked to my local EB, one of two in the area, and he says no way, no how, no copies until the 18th of Dec.

I will be going into the other local one today, and will see what they say in person.

Likely will be a different answer, but maybe some kind people from HMX might be able to get some word from EA's shipping department if they have shipped any copies to Canadian retailers at this time. I would think that would at least give us a clue as to whether or not we should waste our time running around tomorrow to a bunch of stores to see if something showed up. Well, unfortunately for me, I am a 4.5 hour drive from the nearest major US retailer who would have copies. Practically speaking that leaves me out for going there to pick up a copy as Best Buy is only saying the will have 16 copies available for the 360 for sure. A 9 hour round trip is not worth the risk that I will get there and find 20 people have been camped out since today.

Since EB Canada is being elusive with their answers, I am left crossing my fingers that a few copies will trickle in sometime over the next couple of weeks. Here's hoping :)

so i just went to the fs again and talked to the guy, and when i told him about the website, he knew the date was changed back, but said he had none in transit and said his manager told its delayed...and i just called zellers and they have no idea if they're gonna even get any, they didnt even get guitar hero 3

I would have to agree with you. There is the slight possibility that some shipments will make it north of the border between now and Dec 18, but those will be trickles. I think the changing of the date signifies that as retailers receive copies, they will be able to sell them as they receive them, rather than having to wait until Dec 18th. I believe that is where the confusion lies with EB, as Dec is an approximate time frame for when copies will arrive, and they need a date in their system to tell customers, but with the "Official" street date from EA and HMX still being Nov. 20th, they can sell before then. (the street date has never changed for Canada as the delay has only been announced as second hand information from a third party and has never been officially confirmed. This is not being repeated to stir up any more controversy, just to try and clarify where things stand with Canadian retailers as best as I can understand).

So, for those of us that live to far from the border to head over and pick up a copy, we can hope to possibly see some small shipments within the next few weeks as they become available. But if you haven't had your pre-orders in with EB for some time now, I am afraid you will probably be out of luck until sometime next year.

Well, I broke down and did the next best thing I could. I have purchased a copy of the stand alone game from ebay with fast delivery, so i should have it by the end of the week. That will hold me over until my bundle arrives here.

I just couldn't justify a round trip of 9 hours for a possible chance to pick up a bundle. Especially when neither wal mart or best buy would confirm the total number of bundles available for tomorrow morning over the phone.

I will be able to rock, but the drums will have to wait :(

Frys.com has a preorder option, and you can ship to Canada. That is where I preordered, but sadly the status is: Backordered.

I know newegg.com has it too, but it seems to be same thing as frys. Other than that...ebay? Please tell me if you find a place!

Well if they don't get in any tomorrow at FS I'm hoping that they hold off on release until a specific date. It'd be a severe pain having to try and keep checking the store every day between now and Dec 20th to see if they got any shipments in. Seeing as they would sell out probably in the first 15-20 mins that doesnt even leave time to call and check when they open. I have a friend who works at a Futureshop and I'll have her do some spy work for me. I'll let you guys know here if I ever get word of shipments coming in.

Yeah I think its very possible for them to sell out upon opening. I was at the one by me when they opened this morning and there were atleast another 6-7 people who were there for the same thing. This coming Friday is known as Black Friday in the U.S. It is always the day after U.S. Thanksgiving and it is the largest retail spending day in the states. I would be very surprised if any store has copies of Rock Band left on Saturday, considering most retailers will be opening their doors at 5am Friday morning. From what I read on another thread, Wal Mart has decided to hold off releasing all of their copies of Rock Band until Friday morning, although some stores will let some go tomorrow, apparently they put it in their Black Friday flyer, so they want to make sure they have copies available then. That cuts down on the supply even more for people looking this week.

If you can make the trip tomorrow, do it, because otherwise you will most likely be out of luck.

From what I read on another thread, Wal Mart has decided to hold off releasing all of their copies of Rock Band until Friday morning, although some stores will let some go tomorrow, apparently they put it in their Black Friday flyer, so they want to make sure they have copies available then. That cuts down on the supply even more for people looking this week.

If you can make the trip tomorrow, do it, because otherwise you will most likely be out of luck.
I'd be surprised if any store has copies of rock band by thursday night.

I had my local Futureshop (Vancouver, BC) call their head offices. They said their guy in charge of buying X amount of products for retail said they'll get it on Dec 20th.

I have a feeling though...that it's tentative...and they'll try to get in copies before then.

He did say that it is day to day, and to keep checking back. That is more positive news than I have heard from any other retailer here in a while about it. And he did seem to know what he was talking about.

Best bet is to go to Ebay. I bought the stand alone there for 50.99 plus shipping. Total Canadian about $63.

I expect to receive it by Friday, Monday at the latest.

I wouldnt trust them, I went to my local FS to get GHII a while back and they told me the exact same thing, and it took them over a month to get it in

I have the FS website set to check if things are in stock for the stores in this province and it still just says no info available. Mass Effect has been in stock since friday (btw get Superman Returns for free when you buy it). Some hope I guess.

Lingus, if the Canadian dollar is stronger than the American dollar (which it currently is) it make much more sense for them to sell everything they have in Canada (and earn revenue totally in CDN$). In fact, if their "big plan" was to wait for the Canadian dollar to drop, they've have to "jack up" the prices just to break even. It's almost like you have no grasp of exchange rates at all.

I went to EBs in Kitchener and Waterloo today, both of which said they wouldn't be getting it tomorrow. I have a pre-order from EB so I'll get mine whenever it comes in.

If anyone in Canada does manage to get a copy of Rock Band from a Canadian Retailer, please let us know! If some retailers are getting it in, we need to get pressure on the rest of them to get their buyers on the ball.
