Hi There,

I managed to get a copy of Rock Band 2 a few days early from my local retailer and tore into it last night with a roommate for a few hours. It's amazing.

The two of each created characters, and I created a band (Kanye West) whose name was registered on Xbox Live. We played for a while, beat a few cities, and then tried to back out of the menus when the game froze.

This created a couple of bugs, which led to a few other problems as I tried to fix them. Listed below:

When I logged in this morning, my character (drummer) was absent, and no record of it existed besides a name in the band roster

... the singer (roommate's character) was being associated with both my gamertag and his gametag, as if we jointly owned the character. I confirmed that this was the same character file by deleting it via my gamertag management options and seeing it vanish from my roommate's options as well.


I tried to fix all these issues by just deleting everything and starting over, but now my band name "already exists on Xbox" live and we'll be forced to find a new one unless we only want to play locally. Is there any way you can remove the band name from the online database so that we can recreate what we had last night?


[SUGGESTION]
It might be a good idea to let users decide whether or not they want to delete the band name from Xbox Live/PSN when they delete the band locally, as well.

I am experiencing the same problem. My avatar was copied over onto my friend's profile. Her avatar seems to be missing both in game and in the gamedata folder. Our bandname still exists, but it seems to be connected to an avatar that no longer exists.

I believe this happened when we were changing profiles on the instrument sign-in screen.

Is there a fix for this or have we lost our progress and our bandname?

I have had the same problem. My band has disappeared entirely along with all of my created characters, but my friend's characters are now associated under my account jointly with his. It is essentially the same as the original poster's problem, except that my band data is nowhere to be found at all.

The source was not the game freezing, but, like the second poster, I was also switching profiles on the sign-in screen, in order to make sure I got my achievements rather than my friend, on our respective instruments.

This is incredibly frustrating as I had already logged quite a lot of time making my characters and band, as well as progressing through the tour. I hadn't even considered that I won't be able to make another band with the same name, as the original poster pointed out. If any HMX staff read this thread, please pass this along and try to resolve the issue as soon as possible, as I cant' really safely play any local multiplayer until it is addressed.

I also have the same problem. System never crashed, but as previous poster was logging in with different profiles and checking leaderboard. Everything was fine last night, but this morning my character is deleted and bands are missing in the Local tour. The bands are still there, but only available on Xbox Live tour.

I have EXACTLY the same problem as etherb0x up there. Game froze indefinitely, so I powered down. When I started back up, my main character is gone, 2nd player is now associated with my gamertag, and the band can only be accessed via XBox live tour (although we can't play since the leader is now mysteriously vanished). Looks like this isn't an isolated incident.

All our progress is gone and we pretty much have to start over. We were at ~700,000 fans and well on our way to the $100,000 achievement. Plus, all the solo guitar challenges I did with band can no longer be accessed. I'm disappointed that I'm gonna have to start from the beginning again. Patch please?

this is so frustrating! is there no way to fix this? am i really going to have to create a new character and hope she doesn't disappear again? i wish they would address this issue.

Same thing here! Two nights in a row, and my character disappeared. First night, I'm not sure when it happened, but when I logged in this morning, all traces of my character were gone. My wife's character was duplicated under my profile. (My profile is the only XBL-active profile on the machine.)

Re-created my character this AM, and started unlocking songs again. Had friends over tonight, and part-way through the evening, we logged out to switch instruments. WHAM. My character is GONE AGAIN, and now one of my visitors' characters is copied in his place.

This has made the game COMPLETELY unplayable! All progress lost not once, but TWICE! This is a MASSIVE bug and needs to be fixed. I won't be playing again until it is, and I'm debating about taking the game back. SOOOOO angry!!!!!!!!

Hey Canadianknight, I feel for you, I really do. I lost my progress once, I can't imagine losing it twice. I'm afraid of starting the World Tour again knowing that this could happen at any moment :mad:

If it helps them troubleshoot it at all, my profile is the only XBL enabled profile too. Although I didn't lose my character when switching instruments, the game just froze and when I restarted he was gone.

I guess if people really wanted to play the world tour they could periodically back up their RB2 save data to an xbox memory card, but that seems like a lot of work since the game SHOULD just save without issue.

I loved RB1 and the setlist for RB2 is amazing but the World Tour is pretty much unplayable as long as this bug exists. As it happens to more and more people they are gonna get a lot of $hit for wasting people's time.

Wasn't able to get to the forums for the last couple of days, but it's great (in a way) that there are so many others encountering this problem and posting their issues on here. Should make it much more likely that Harmonix will address the problem in an upcoming patch.

In the meantime, I've "rerolled" the character and created a new band and am hoping that I can switch the band name over to occupy the XBL registered band name slot currently being held by my original band name. It'd be great to have it back.

If I am understand the situations correctly, I think I have explanations for all except the ones caused by freezing. As for those playing with xbox live tags and local tags: NO information from a local tag is put on live. Almost everything in Rock Band 2 is automatically uploaded. So you have 2 conflicting protocols and some bug is bound to happen. What it seems that it is doing is copying the local tag info over to the xbox live one so it can upload it, but that overwrites the original in the process. Of course, that theory is invalid if someone has experienced that particular bug with only using xbox live tags. As for signing out of the instrument select screen and switching: the band name is tied to a tag. The instrument select screen is AFTER you have signed in to the band. So, basically, if you are signing out of the master profile after you have signed in to the band, you are effectively disassociating your tag from the band. If you simply go back to the start screen and do it, or even better the dash board, that should solve that problem. As for the straight up freezing and deleting, welcome to the land of saves, I guess. Almost any save that is interupted mid-save will become corrupt. This is a problem that goes back to the NES and is hopefully one they can iron out in this game.

mietha: interesting hypothesis...

i think i'm gonna stay disconnected from LIVE from now on while doing anything in RB2 related to the tour mode. I realize this isn't an option for everyone, but it's not like the band that my girlfriend and I created are really competing for the top of the leaderboards anyhow :P

To be extra careful, I will make sure if we switch instruments that we do it at the dashboard, just to be safe. I will post here if I encounter the bug again...

EDIT: you're right about the saving problem but there has also been a solution for a long time: multiple autosave files. ie: if the last one is corrupted, you can always try the previous version. it's not perfect but it's a helluva lot better than restarting from scratch!! i don't know how easy/difficult this would be to implement in RB2, but i certainly would appreciate it...

I just experienced this same issue today. Lost all my tour mode progress. Frustrating, to say the least. I hope Harmonix releases a patch soon. Honestly, I'm kind of afraid to spend much time playing now, for fear that all my work will be undone again. And, I have to admit that I'm a bit pissed about having spent $60 on a broken product.

You CAN keep a second save file on a memory card. I just manually save to the MC and HD after I am done for a session. Auto-save is on during play. I'm not sure how helpful that would be in this situation though, because I'm not sure exactly what is saved locally and what is stored online or what is stored in the save file verses directly tired to the gamertag.

I'll give this a bump. I tried renaming my band, was told that the new name was already taken, but when I switched it back to the old name it said that it was taken too. There has to be a better way to handle this.

Time to throw another casualty onto the list. I'll include as much detail as possible to attempt to help the analysis along.

I bought the game early on Sunday and we played ALL day. A blast, of course. For the most part, it was two of us, although we had a couple of friends over later on, making a full foursome. The aforementioned two of us are both Live-enabled and were saving to Memory Unit A, which was running out of space (less than 1 MB free after both our saves were created) but we never got any errors. The other two were using non-Live profiles and saving to the hard drive. Song cache and A/V data were also saving to the hard drive. We played Local Tour the whole time, although I did pop into Xbox Live Tour once to see what, if anything, was different. My profile was signed in as a guitarist and the band leader; my fiancee was signed in as a vocalist. I participated in three or four battles by myself later on, once our friends left. We have a few dozen songs worth of DLC on the hard drive (plus exported RB1 songs), and I'd spent a few moments in the Music Store but didn't buy anything.

I didn't touch the game again until tonight. Here was the sequence of events:
1) Powered up 360, signed on, booted game
2) Song cache loaded, a/v data loaded, my profile loaded
3) I chose Local Tour from menu. My band did not appear under my name.
4) I went to Manage Data. My band name appeared there, but when I selected it, the only option was Delete. When I went to Character Data, I saw my fiancee's character, but not mine. My character seems to have vanished.
5) I went to Xbox Live Tour. My band name appeared there, and I was able to proceed to the join screen. But once there, my character didn't show up. Once again, I saw her character on my profile.

We did a little bit more poking around. Here's what we found:
- After she signed in, we went back to the Xbox Live Tour screen and ... our original band appeared under BOTH of our gamertags. Furthermore, her character was on both of our tags. But mine was nowhere to be found.
- If she was signed in alone, she would reach a "Finding Band" screen that said "Searching..." but didn't seem to do much else. She could "Continue Without Leader" and get as far as the band roster screen, but when choosing to "Continue Tour" she was told she can't play without the leader.
- If I sign in and pick my original band name under Xbox Live Tour, I get the very same "Finding Band" screen, and the option to "Continue Without Leader," even though I was the leader. It must be referring to my missing character.
- If we both sign in, and both attempt to join the Xbox Live Tour as my girl's character: we still get the "Finding Band" screen, and we're unable to start the game because the leader is absent.
- On the band roster screen, my missing character's name does appear (as "absent"). But that's the only mention of the character as far as I can see.
- After trying to open our original band, we sometimes get really long load times (~30 seconds) in certain spots...one in particular was backing out of the join screen. Once, when I tried to enter Solo Quickplay, it made the "selected" sound, then sat there indefinitely, refusing all controller input until I exited to the Dashboard. The background music and animation continued throughout.
- As of now, we can no longer connect to Rock Central. Other XBL communications seem to be functioning properly (Geo Wars 2 leaderboards appeared ok).

My original (now missing) character's name was "Big Creepy Perv," my girl's character is "Cream Puf" and our band's name was "Meet Us In The Dark Alley At 11." She originally called her character "Cream Puff" but got a message that it was unsuitable for Live and needed to be changed, hence the rename. But heck, that's probably completely unrelated to the issue at hand.

...and that's all I've got.

I know a lot of people will be complaining about this, and it kind of seems like maybe the title should have been in the oven a bit longer, but complaining does nothing to help. Please, folks, post as much detail as possible about your similar issues so that HMX can figure out the issues ASAP and get a patch going.

Well, possibly a similar problem here.
A friend came over and we were playing 3 player since the game came out sunday. he saved his save file to a memory card, went home and opened it up, saved it to his hdd.

we were all playing over xbox live tonight, the band is associated with his account. we played a mystery setlist and on the 3rd song, and justice for all, it said that the song could not be found the session will be restarted. we have the song downloaded to our xbox from when he was over, but we have not yet purchased the song, so thats why it gave us the error.

NOW, when he invites using the same band, our xbox freezes. Not sure what his is doing. He can get into that band, but he says the load times are slow for it. when rock band loads, it says it is attempting to connect to rock central.

Now i'm not sure if a file got corrupted somewhere, or what is causing our xbox to freeze only when trying to invite from that band (band a). i can invite him into my band (band b), and he can invite me to his 2nd band (band c), but the original band (band a) no longer allows us to join.

seems like we have a problem. I'm not sure if him copying his save file from the memory stick over to his xbox again and then ours would solve the issue? since the band is attached to his character?

Any ideas lol

Count me in as someone this has happened to as well. My friends were switching their gamertags from drums to guitar to try and get those respective achievements and then the game froze. Everything was gone when I came back. There's no excuse for this to have made it past beta testing. Even if peoples' progress in World Tour and challenges is gone forever, there's got to at least be a way to get the band names back. I really don't even want to play the game any more because of this, but it'd be nice to get my band name back.

@yyr: what you describe is exactly how my copy of RB2 behaved/behaves now. it seems from this thread that it only appears to happen to people playing with their spouses/fiancees/girlfriends ;)

I'm just happy that this issue is coming out now, before we invested months of our time in the game. I'll probably just stick to Quickplay at this point until there's a workaround or patch.

It is encouraging, and unfortunate that others are experiencing this same issue. It makes me feel better that I'm not the only one. What is not encouraging is that there has been no word or even an acknowledgment of this issue.

I was really excited to get Rockband2 and enjoyed playing with it on Sunday. However, after experiencing this problem I have not played it since. I'm hesitant to play it as I fear all my progress and my band name will be once again wiped away.

If I have to start over, that's fine, but is there any way to delete and recover a band name?

Add another one. Except that my friend and I didn't do any instrument switching. He joined my band with his non-XBL profile last night, and today my band and my character are gone. This is a major disappointment, all of the progress I made in Tour and Challenges was a waste of time and I'm going to have to replay it all to continue through the game? Nuts to that, this needs to be patched yesterday. Hell, this should never have gotten through testing.

Oh, and I called Rock Band support and they were clueless. They said it was probably my system's fault even though my settings, DLC and my friend's character are all still present. I am majorly disappointed right now.

1. How far did you progress in Tour?

2. What was the last event that was unlocked? (i.e. Van, Bus, etc.)

3. Has anyone gotten this issue to occur before unlocking the Bus (only playing a few gigs)?

4. What type of gamer profiles were you using during the progression? (XBOX Live enabled, Silver profiles, local profiles)

5. What was the last thing that you did before powering down the system?

6. How long were you playing RB2 on the last session before this occurred? (time from power on/reset to powering down/resetting the system)

7. Did you connect with anyone on Xbox Live and played a few online gigs?

8. Were you playing on Local Tour or Xbox Live Tour?

9. Had you, at any point, enabled a cheat in the Game Modifiers section (unlock all)?

10. What type of storage are you using to save your band and character data? Hard Drive, Memory Unit, both? If using both, do you have your DLC stored to one device and your band stored to another?

11. What were you doing prior to entering Tour mode (i.e. Were you playing Quickplay, Head to Head, Set Challenges, Battle of the Bands, etc.)? How long were you playing in these modes? Also, were there other people playing in these modes?

Thanks for the acknowledgement and your efforts on this...I knew the reply would be swift. I'll try and answer as many of the questions as possible.


1. How far did you progress in Tour?

We had just unlocked the Bus before we quit playing Tour for the night...I think. If we did go any further, it wasn't much. I know we unlocked the first four managers, but if my memory serves me right, that happens at the same time as the Bus, or close. I think this answers 2. and 3. as well.


4. What type of gamer profiles were you using during the progression? (XBOX Live enabled, Silver profiles, local profiles)
At first: two Live Enabled (Live Gold) profiles. Later: the same two, plus two local profiles. After we quit Tour, I played for a bit on my Live profile.


5. What was the last thing that you did before powering down the system?
I tried out the Drum Trainer. I did not return to the main menu afterwards; I powered the system down while in the Drum Trainer.


6. How long were you playing RB2 on the last session before this occurred? (time from power on/reset to powering down/resetting the system)

This was one looooooooong session. I'd say about 10-12 hours in total. There were no freezes or interruptions during this time.


7. Did you connect with anyone on Xbox Live and played a few online gigs?

I popped into the Live Tour but didn't go past the join screen. I participated in a few Battles but I don't think that counts.


8. Were you playing on Local Tour or Xbox Live Tour?

All of our game progress was made in the Local Tour. We were signed into Live the whole time, though, if that makes any difference.

I hope some of this info helps you guys reproduce the issue and find a solution. Thanks for your efforts.

2. What was the last event that was unlocked? (i.e. Van, Bus, etc.) We got the van, hired an assistant, and were about to play for the bus, but didn't get it yet.

3. Has anyone gotten this issue to occur before unlocking the Bus (only playing a few gigs)? We did not unlock the bus yet, only the van. We had the ability to play for the bus, but didn't play that set yet.

4. What type of gamer profiles were you using during the progression? (XBOX Live enabled, Silver profiles, local profiles) Band Leader (xbox live gold account), only other player was vocalist on local account (non-xbox live)

5. What was the last thing that you did before powering down the system? went to the rock shop to buy clothes and tattoos for non-xbox live account character. pretty sure we backed out all the way to the main menu before quitting, but not positive. *** EDIT: actually my husband is positive he backed out all the way to the main menu at least once to look through the music store. not sure if we purchased any songs at this point.

6. How long were you playing RB2 on the last session before this occurred? (time from power on/reset to powering down/resetting the system) Approximately 2 hours

7. Did you connect with anyone on Xbox Live and played a few online gigs? No, we only played the local tour

8. Were you playing on Local Tour or Xbox Live Tour? Only local tour

9. Had you, at any point, enabled a cheat in the Game Modifiers section (unlock all)? No, no fail mode and other cheats were never enabled.

PLEASE HELP! We want to play Rockband 2!

In the meantime, I think it would be wise for people to save a backup of their game to both their HD and a Memory Unit on a regular basis. That's what I'm going to do. If it's like RB1 you can do this from the Manage Data screen under Options, and save another copy of your game to the other device. (Don't do it from the Xbox Dashboard because from there you can only move, not copy.)

thanks for looking into the issue. just turned on RB2 today with my band and characters deleted. here's the answers to your questions...

1) we had just finished playing a song in London and Moscow, right after getting the plane.

2) last event unlocked was the plane

3) everything seemed to work just fine before getting the bus

4) we had a 2 person band going, the band leader was an Xbox Live enabled account, other was just a local account

5) I'm pretty sure we were sitting at the RB2 main menu before powering down

6) we were playing for about an hour and a half the last time everything was working fine

7) did not connect online to play anyone

8) only played world tour locally

9) no cheats or modifiers were used

i wanted to note that i haven't had any of the freezing problems as some of the other forum members. just a huge surprise when i wanted to play today when i had no band or band members. however, every song i unlocked in world tour was still accessible in quickplay, fyi...

Towards the end of my session I was just kind of fooling around with things, and yes, that included the codes. I entered all of the codes. I don't recall whether I actually turned the Unlock Songs code on, but if I did, I turned it off before I actually played anything.

And I second the above: if I go to Quickplay, every song I was able to unlock is indeed still selectable. Everything looks intact, except for my girl's band and character data seemingly overwriting mine.

I'm having this same problem. My sister and I played RB2 a little bit after I got home from work on Sunday. Got passed our home town and into the one of the next ones. Only had the van. Didn't mess with the cheats or anything. We finish for the night, and turn off my 360. I got bored and started back up like 20 minutes later to find ALL our progress, my band(Dimensional Death), her band(My Favorite Oranges), and our jointly owned band(which I can't remember) were gone, along with our avatars.

Now, losing progress isn't a problem, but the fact that now I can't re-register my band(Dimensional Death) on XBL is a big issue to me. I want my name back! :mad:

now that I read about the Merch Girl...I remember that we unlocked her also. I don't recall if that's before or after the Bus.

If it's after, then we stopped after unlocking the Merch Girl.

Yep, same thing happened. At first I thought my wife lost her character because we did earlier turn on NO FAIL for my 3 yr old daughter, but same thing happened to her character again with that option turned off.

Thus far, at least, seems like I'm pretty safe playing with only xbox live profiles. I've never understood why anyone would create a local one in the first place... Or, of course, switching profiles after you've logged into a band, but common sense should tell you that... It is very good to see HMX finally acknowledge this thread.

Damn, i know it sux, but im glad to see a lot of people are having this problem and not just me. Im down 2 now and id really like my band name back b/c we've been using it since rb1.

a few hrs each time.

Thus far, at least, seems like I'm pretty safe playing with only xbox live profiles. I've never understood why anyone would create a local one in the first place...

Let's say you're on Live, you've got the only profile on your 360, and your two non-360-owning friends come over. Are you going to sit there creating two new Live accounts for them? No, you're going to create two new local profiles so you can play with them right away. Most of the 360s I've seen have a few generic local accounts on them so that random people can join whatever game we happen to be playing.

If I had the time, I'd create a new band, create characters on both a local and a Live profile, and start doing all kinds of nutty things while logging everything I did. Unfortunately I don't have the time. But if someone at HMX PMed me a job offer for their QA dept. I'd certainly consider it =)

I have having the same problem. I have went through the thing two times and both times the game froze and when I went back to play again my band member was missing and my band would not load at all it was not even listed on the band screen but when I go to the options and manage data and my bands they are listed. Can someone please help I really don't want to go through the world tour again with this happening also maybe everyone that is having problems could also file a report with EA on there support site like I did then maybe something will be done. Thanks for addressing this issue in a timely manner, Sean. I can't wait to get back into some local multiplayer!

1. I started in Seattle and had played some in San Francisco, but nothing outside of those cities.

2. I'm pretty sure we had just recently gotten the bus and unlocked the Merch Girl event.

3. Nope.

4. I was on an Xbox Live Gold account, and my roommate was on a local profile.

5. To be clear, my glitch did not occur as the result of the game freezing up. I had simply backed out to the sign-in screen, switched instruments (swapping profiles between the drums and guitar), then backed out to the main menu to recalibrate. Upon going back to tour mode, my band and characters were no longer there. The game did not freeze at any point.

6. It had been four or five hours, I think.

7. I never connected to Live to play.

8. Local Tour.

9. No cheats were ever enabled, aside from testing out breakneck speed.


While fixing the glitch is definitely top priority, I would just like to reiterate the sentiments of myself and everyone else here in suggesting that there be a method implemented which allows for deletion of bands one owns on Xbox Live.

Aside from all this, I'm really enjoying the game. Thanks for all your hard work!

Im not a Harmonix employee but im pretty sure i have a good idea what is causing this problem. Everyone who has posted answers to Shawns question so far have been using both Live enabled and Local profiles. Appears that there is some kind of conflict there. Possibly trying to post stuff to online when there is a non-online profile being used. Like i said im not a Harmonix employee but would like a little more info on the situation. Anyone who hasnt responded to Shawns questions please do, and anyone else try just local or Live enabled profiles and tell us what happens. Want to try and help everyone one out as much as i can, and make sure this doesnt happen to me as well. Good luck with your bands.

Tried in vain to get the game to unfreeze. It froze when we were switching profiles to different instruments and got stuck on the blade. It said "Looking for profiles"

I turned Breakneck speed on, but turned it back off without even trying it out.

This whole thing happened to my friend as well. As he tells it, he had his Gold account and his girlfriend's local account going and it happened to him when he was backing out of a menu. Not sure which one though.

This has happened twice to me, once on my system, once on a friend's. Unless said otherwise, both incidents have the same information. EDIT: The friend posted earlier today (Tesuna), so the second time this happened was his account!

4. What type of gamer profiles were you using during the progression? (XBOX Live enabled, Silver profiles, local profiles) First time-- one X-Box Silver Account and one local, the second--one X-Box Gold, one X-Box Silver, and two local profiles.

5. What was the last thing that you did before powering down the system?
First time--Backing out of menus, the freeze happened as I got to the instrument-select screen. Second time--Switching profiles at the instrument-select screen, specifically, had signed out of the X-Box Silver account and then one of the local accounts.

6. How long were you playing RB2 on the last session before this occurred? (time from power on/reset to powering down/resetting the system) First time--roughly 2.5 hours. Second time--About 2 hours.

7. Did you connect with anyone on Xbox Live and played a few online gigs? No on both incidents.

We founded the band in Stockholm and made it all the way to North America. Montreal and Chicago were still locked, but New York and Austin were unlocked I remember



2. What was the last event that was unlocked? (i.e. Van, Bus, etc.)

I don't remember exactly...Roadies or Sound Guy...somewhere in there.



3. Has anyone gotten this issue to occur before unlocking the Bus (only playing a few gigs)?

We haven't. I'm not sure if others have.



4. What type of gamer profiles were you using during the progression? (XBOX Live enabled, Silver profiles, local profiles)

One XBL enabled and one local (I have a hunch the problem lies somewhere with this, as most people tend to be reporting this as well). The Local profile character survived and got copied over to my XBL profile (as well as still being associated with the local profile). The character on the XBL account vanished, but I believe both were official members of the band. The band can still be found under 'Manage Data' but the only option is deletion.



5. What was the last thing that you did before powering down the system?

I'm pretty sure it was right after hiring a new staff member that it froze and I had to power down (we were using the stylist, but switched to a new guy who would win or lose double the fans...forget his name cuz we never got a chance to actually use him!)



6. How long were you playing RB2 on the last session before this occurred? (time from power on/reset to powering down/resetting the system)

Don't remember exactly...quite a while, maybe a couple of hours.

Not during the last session. I played Local Tour with my girlfriend, then she went home. That night I played Live tour with a friend who bought the game also. Next day, I played with my girlfriend again locally, I think this is when the bug occurred.

Local Tour when it happened, but I believe I was connected to the Internet (not 100% positive though, might have disconnected during the session, not sure).

No, definitely not. Had not enabled any cheats/modifiers/whatever. Just playing the game as per defaults.


I really hope this helps you guys get to the bottom of it, and I'm looking forward to a patch! Sorry I couldn't be more specific. Aside from this one (MAJOR) issue, I'm very impressed with the game, good work! I guess you can't catch everything before it goes out the door...

4. I used my XBOX Live Silver profile (connected online), and my wife used her local profile. My profile was used to save the band info, but her character was lost, along with everything else (band, character, progress, etc.)
5. I just upgraded my character's clothing, and was trying to progress in Local Tour (after the Merch Girl unlock) when it locked on the loading screen.. which I had waited about 8 minutes before powering down/resetting the Xbox 360.
6. We played for approximately 2 1/2 - 3 hrs total.
7. I did not connect with or play online with others, I currently have a silver subscription to XBL, but I was online as a silver subscriber when this happened.
8. Local Tour. We had not used any other modes yet.
9. No Cheat Modifiers used.
10. No Unlock Songs option used.
10.5 20gb hdd used for game save.

Thanks for your time, hmxsean, and I hope my information helps get this solved. If this gets fixed, I would really like to get my original band name back, even though we created an entirely new one to play it again. It's not very fun to do this- right now we back out to the main menu after every song to make sure it saves everything onto both profiles.

Everything is on the 20gb HD that came with my system. I've never used a memory card or anything else besides this hard drive with my XBox 360.

I'm pretty sure I put that info in my (long) initial post, but just for the heck of it, here is it again: DLC, song cache and A/V options were on the hard drive, our two XBL-enabled gamer profiles and associated RB2 save data were on one Memory Unit, and the other two local profiles and associated RB2 save data was on the hard drive.

*** Also i noticed in the song just before it locked up, that the drumming calibaration was about 1/2 second off. I had to start playing notes about mid screen. wife thought i was lying and then after we were done it locked up. All members were on hard level.

Our band had progressed quite far. We did the Rolling Stones event, had all but 1 staff member unlocked, had the bus, plane, etc.

I think after we beat the Rolling Stones event, there wasn't anything unlocked besides venues, if that helps.

The main account the band was saved to was Live enabled, and I played with a couple other local only profiles and one other Live enabled friend on the same system. The Live enabled friend seems to be unaffected.

The two new questions:

The time it happened to me, Both profiles, game-saves, and a/v options were on the MU, the DLC was on the hard drive.

With tesuna's incident, game-save, a/v options, the XBox Live Gold profile, one local profile, and the DLC was on the Hard Drive. The XBL Silver Profile and the other local profile were on the MU.

We looked in the options and cheat menu, but no cheats turned on. Then went straight to tour mode.

My son and I just had our band bugged and 6 hours of progress destroyed.

We were about to play the Sound Guy gig in Amsterdam when the game froze on the tour screen. When I rebooted my 360, my character (the band leader) was gone and all that remained was my sons character but his character was also on my profile as well.

It showed that I did not have a band any longer in local world tour but that I did on XBOX Live WT, but stated that the leader was missing.

I deleted my sons character from my profile and it deleted him from both his and my profile instead of just mine and it wiped our band completely away.

Now, both our characters are lost, our band is lost (yet says I cant create our band again because it already exists on XBL)

Did you fill out the survey one of the harmonix employees (hmxsean) wrote up so they can recreate the problem? Also, in the same post that employee said not to delete your save file from the system menu, which implies there's a way to re-associate the data to your profile, so your 6 hours (and my 12+ hours of progress) isn't lost.

In the meantime, most people have noticed from the survey answers that the problem seems like it's got to do with local and live profiles being signed in at the same time, so you shouldn't see a freeze if you only have one or the other logged on. :)

A week ago I bought new Rock Band 2 game for my 13 year old son and first impression was really good. We played original Rock Band on XBOX 360 since January and till now we have downloaded over 80 song. So RB2 worked great untill today when we couldn't load my son's band or his character. It looks they have vanished! Here are chronologiclly listed events since last Sunday September 14, 2008:

1. My son formed band in Montreal and named it "Wipeout". His character name is "Tommy" and his profile name is "Tommy L 505". Later that day I have joined him and created caracter named "Razor" under my profile name "Tom".

2. After full week of playing we have unlocked Shanghai and all other world venues. Total of fans for our band "Wipeout" on Leaderboards was around 30,000,000 and we were ranked around 3,000. I think we have unlocked pretty much all the songs.

3. We have played few hours today (Saturday Sept. 20, 2008) and then we had 1 hr break (dinner time). When we started the game again there was no bands under my son's profile and also his character "Tommy" was gone but somehow my character "Razor" showed up under his profile name. When we've searched for data under Manage Data we have found his band "Wipeout" but the only option was delete (which we didn't do).

Here are few questions for Harmonix sofware experts:

1. Is there a patch available? This issue makes RB2 game allmost unplayable. I don't think we'll pay it again because we could loose data again which never happened in original Rock Band game.

2. Is there a way to recover created band and charactes?

3. If new band has to be created can it have the same name "Wipeout" (probably not because we are allready listed on Leaderboards)?

We turned the game on and immediately went to Band World Tour mode.


A note that may be of interest here:
Typically when my wife and I play, I turn on the XBox 360, my account autologs in, we load the game (sometimes don't start it first, but at least load it to the "Press Start" screen), and then she turns on her instrument and signs her local account in. The night this happened, we had already turned on both instruments and signed in both accounts, and THEN started the game. Where it normally loads the save info, instead of just loading, it asked me to overwrite my save, and like an idiot, I said "yes." I'm sure like everyone else that this is when it saved over my characters, but I found it interesting that this happened the first time ever that we hadn't waited until we were in the game proper (as it were) before turning on her instrument and signing in her account.

However, now that chupacabra24 mentions it, the time I lost my band was the only time the "overwrite your save" question popped up, and I said yes. I don't remember if I signed in the profiles in a different order that time, however.

I just discovered that the bug has hit us again. That is two bands and two characters wiped out in once week. This is unacceptable. I will try to detail what I can below, but the game has now become unplayable until this is fixed.

We just had it happen again. I turned it on, signed on under my profile only, deleted my wife's band and character from my save. I went into Band World Tour and recreated my band- temp versions without the artwork, just in case- and she signed in and we started playing.

We finished up the first venue in Chicago and went into the Van battle. Won the van and it froze on the screen that says we won the van. Powered off, powered back on, reloaded under my profile only, and once again, I have her band and one character. Just like mine never existed.

I'm going to delete my game save and just start over- this time there was no asking about overwriting or anything, the characters are just gone like they were never saved.

This is indeed very frustrating. At least I didn't go all out, but the band name bit is really gonna tick me off.

None of the above. Group of four in Local Tour mode. No quickplay, no HTH, no challenged, no BoB.


I should also add, like others, this has happened twice to me.

This has really rendered the game unplayable for us. Except for Quickplay, but without using a cheat, I can't get to all the new songs.

I'm hoping this is resolved soon... as it's obviously a big issue. Personally, at this point I feel very disappointed, and that I've spent money on a piece of software that shouldn't have made it out of the beta phase.

I really hope you find a fix for this. We have been having a ton of fun the last few weekends playing the tour and challenges, and had around 500k fans and bought lots of items. It will probably kill the thrill of continuing if we have to start over and we will probably just wait for that other game to come out next month before we play together again.

My girlfriend and I started with the Local tour. After she left I played some solo guitar challenges, as well as some band challenges over XBL with other friends. She came back the next day and we played more Local tour. It was during that tour that we ran into the bug.

I've had the same issue twice. Both times the secondary (non-live) account was used to start the game after a system freeze.

Sean - Is there any hope of getting either the entire band file back, or at least some way of getting the band name back from Xbox live and Rock Central?

Is there any sort of time frame for a fix? If it's a week, I can just wait. If it's a month or two, I can just back up my file every few sets and then go back to that if I have to later.

Similar problem here. We created a live band and new characters. Played for about three hours. The band is in one live account and the leader is in mine (both local to the box). So when one account tries to get going, it says "looking for leader" and it never finds me even though I'm plugged in on the same box and connected to live.

I can only sub in the band. Completely ruined this night. :( :( :(

Went directly to Tour, played for several hours. At the end, we did some character customization and then backed out the start screen and powered off. Tonight, my character is completely gone but was the band leader. So since he can't be found, the band has no leader. I can't figure out how to make the other person the leader (EVEN THOUGH THE BAND IS UNDER THEIR PROFILE).

You guys do great work and I really appreciate the hard work you put in this game... But this is quite frustrating. Please let us know when you can get a patch out. :(

We were in the middle of a band challenge using my band. We stopped midway through the challenge and I used the "Quit and Save Progress" option, then I powered down the system. When I loaded RB2 today, my band and character are gone and have been replaced by the band/char from my drummer's local profile.

In the last session we played before my data was lost, we did only the tour band challenges, and I saved in the middle of one of them before shutting down. There were two people playing: myself on my xbox live profile and my drummer who was using a local profile. We were playing in my band on the xbox live profile which is the band that is now missing. We played in challenge mode for 1-2hrs.

This is happening to me as well. My wife's profile is a non-xbl account and mine is a xbl account. I have exported the songs from the first game to the hard drive to be able to play them in the new game. The game is freezing when we back out to the join screen and then try to go back in. My wives profile copies over mine and all my progress and character info is lost. The band is under my wives profile. what can we do?

I use my hard drive for saving everything. I did take some DLC, and the saves on my memory unit to a friend's system but only played Rock Band 1 there. The memory unit was not in the system when the error occured.

11. What were you doing prior to entering Tour mode (i.e. Were you playing Quickplay, Head to Head, Set Challenges, Battle of the Bands, etc.)? How long were you playing in these modes? Also, were there other people playing in these modes?
1st - Lost character and band associations upon start up from power on went into Tour mode.
2nd - I played a few challenges, went to "join" screen, signed out profile to change instruments, when I signed onto the new controller there was no bands and the character is now gone. Both bands are still listed under manage data but all it will allow me to do is delete them.


I'm not sure if this is helpful but there is now a save data on the hard drive that can be seen from dashboard's "system" area with an owner of "Unknown Profile." I cannot copy or move the save file to take ownership of it. Please fix this problem soon as I do not want to reload the character and band from the MU and lose almost 12 hours of progress. This is a time when a solo tour would come in handy as I would still be able to play that but now I'm not going to be playing RB2 and risk losing more progress.

When I had finished setting up live, I was trying to play a score duel online, my friend logged into his xbox profile, and then we realized we wouldn't both be able to play at the same time online in a score duel, so we tried to play a local score duel. That was when we noticed that my character was gone, and I could only choose his character with my profile. I then went into local tour mode to see if my band was still there, and it was gone, then I tried resetting the system.

Also, I had just downloaded The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary and the Stephen Colbert song, and the last time I played RB2 (2 days ago) I had transfered the songs from RB1 into RB2.

It's collecting dust here too, but I don't think there are enough people with a problem to get it more attention than it's getting now. If everyone had this problem, I'm sure it would have been fixed by now. There weren't any posts on the XBox forums about it that I could see, so we are likely in the minority.

This is a great game, and it's a real shame to see it plagued by such a serious glitch. If this helps, all the songs I unlocked (all 84) are still there - it's just my bands that are gone.

Ok. Last night we dared back into the waters of bug ocean. This time I had the wife log out and unplug her drums. I loaded up the game, created a new band and backed out to the main screen to make sure it saved. Then I plugged her in, signed her in, and we loaded up the local tour and played for a few hours. Today, I booted it up as just me and the band is still there and I'm still the owner.

We'll play in a bit together to make sure it sticks. Too bad we lost all that time, money, and customization but that's ok. We'd end up playing those crappy tier 1 songs again sometime....

I'd like to think that for every one person that reports the problem, there are at least several people that don't.

Anyway, I'd like an update too, even if it's just "we're still working on it." My copy of Rock Band 2 is also sitting collecting dust, and I'm not going to play it again until the issue is resolved.

Our copy has not been touched since this happened, and am thinking of dropping our reserve on the complete set we have at Gamestop if it's not fixed shortly. I'm with most of you guys, I'd like to see an update on it. Fortunately, tesuna's and my problems been resolved by upgrading our local profiles to at least XBL Silver, and I haven't seen a freeze since (I'm also saving on both a hard drive and memory unit, just to be safe. :)) I've put in about 16 or 17 hours of gameplay across multiple sessions too, so I feel pretty safe.

I also have the same problem, just wanted to post to let Harmonix know it is actually a big problem. i started reading this post from last sunday, and i'm just waiting for a patch. But since Harmonix has not released a patch i decided to post that i also have the same problem. I will not answer all the 11 questions, but i can say these things:

1. I was connected to live
2. I was playing local tour
3. One xbox live silver account, one local account.
4. Had unlocked the van.
5. When i exit the tour by presing the red button on the guitar, the game froze, forzing me to restart the console.
6. When i turned back on the xbox, the band and my character were lost (my character being the leader of the band.

Please adreess this problem fast. I'm starting to feel really bad for your game and i'm serously planning to buy Guitar Hero World Tour instead.

Is Harmonix prepared to communicate to all the retailers that people can return their broken game for a full refund so we can use our gaming dollars on a game that actually works? I buy a game to play it, not to play a beta version and wait until they're done programming the production release. I'd buy RB2 again once it's fixed, but for all we know that could take months to repair something that would have likely delayed release if it had been found by their testers instead of the gaming community.

I work hard and I play hard and I'd rather be playing Rock Band 2 this weekend instead of waiting for the next game on my wish list. From what I had played prior to the bug, I love this game and so does my family - all the way down to my grandson. I'm sorry, but this is pretty frustrating and I would expect some form of communication and compensation from any vendor.

I hadn't played Tour Mode in over 24 hours, I was playing Quickplay before I had played tour last. When I play Quickplay it's usually for 10-30 mins, so probably somewhere around that amount of time. No, I had only played solo at that point.


I had absolutely no problems until my friend came over and we played (Local) Band Quickplay using two characters I had created previously. There were no issues during our first session of (Local) Band Quickplay that lasted around an hour with myself on Medium Bass and him on Expert Guitar. After we finished Quickplay we shutdown the system and left for around two and a half hours.

The freezing first occurred during our second session of (Local) Band Quickplay, somewhere around five minutes into the session (once again with myself on Medium Bass and him on Expert Guitar using the same two previously created characters).

The game now freezes every time I play, but never at any specific point in songs or any particular mode of play. My characters are all there and all of my songs are still available in Quickplay. I have never had any issues with my 360 and RB2 is the only game that I have issues with now. My RB2 disk is completely scratch free.

It certainly is frustrating. I have no doubt in my mind that if RB2 was bug free, I would literally be on it everyday, just like I was with the first. Now I'm going on a week without touching it, and it's a bit depressing because the Rock Band franchise has easily become one of the most fun experiences I've had on any console.

Even if it is backwards compatible with RB1, I refuse to buy any more DLC (which has become a weekly addiction) until this problem has been addressed. And sure, a fix tomorrow would be amazing, but right now ANY word on the progress of a patch will at least restore some faith in Harmonix.

Here's a forum post with 12 pages of people experiencing problems, over 7,000 views. I can't even imagine how many more people have our same issue and haven't had their voices heard.

My brother and I had placed in the top 20 in a few battle of the bands with my band, and my character had around $75k, as well as the golden drum set and golden guitar from completing the impossible drum and guitar challenges on expert mode. I went into practice mode with the drums. I realized I wasn't signed in. I signed in a local profile and immediately exited practice mode. Then the live profile signed in to the guitar. The live profile is the band leader and the only live profile on the XBOX. I then selected local tour.

When we got to the character selection screen, the live profile's characters had replace the ones that were on the local profile signed in to the drums.

The Drummer's local profile also now has both of the live profile's bands listed next to his name on the band select screen.

I have never at any point enabled the 'unlock all' modification.

I ran into this problem last night when XBox Live was down. But, now that it's back up, I still have the problem. Here is my post I made about it earlier followed by my answers to the QA survey.

Last night, my friends and I tried to play Rock Band 2 like we always do. Our band is under my GamerTag. When I went to play the Tour, it didn't show our band under my name. The only choice we had was to create a new band. So, we all decided to do QuickPlay instead.
On the character select screen, everyone could choose their created character except for me. I play guitar on the Rock Band 2 Strat, and my brother plays bass on the Xplorer. The only created character I could choose was my brothers. Mine was nowhere to be found, so I chose one of the default characters.
My gamertag is the only one setup for XBox Live (Silver). The other three are only the hard drive.
The band was still showing up in the Options screen where you can choose to rename it.
Is this the way it is supposed to work? If I don't have a connection to Live, then my band and character are not available? I know that Live is back up, but I won't get a chance to make sure that they show up again until later tonight.
I hope there is a way around this. If I ever lose internet connectivity, I would hope that I would still be able to access my band and character.\\

Any word on if those of us who DID lose our band names can get them back? I really don't want to have to make a new band name, because of some stupid glitch that should have never made it passed QA testing.

I have the EXACT same issue. My wife and I played last night. We were playing Tour and were playing in NY to try and get enough stars for a sound guy. I come home to play today at lunch and the band is not available, since it was our only band.....no bands were available. My character (guitarist-Xbox Live Gold) was also deleted and my wife's character (singer-non Xbox Live) was associated with mine and hers accounts. In quickplay, not all the songs are unlocked that we had. We had 84 RB2 songs and now there is only 52. Also, no scores were registered next to any of the songs.

Still no update?! Totally unacceptable. Don't you have a Public Relations or Communications Department to handle stuff like this?

1. What is causing the problem (so more people don't get affected)?
2. When will it be fixed (so we know when we can start playing risk-free with our original bands again)?
3. How do you plan to compensate your customers that bought a defective product and were unable to return it to the store because it was opened, especially when a new disc isn't going to fix the problem and bring our band/band leader back from limbo?

Can we please get a sticky and a response on this? Pretty please? With sugar on top?

Error occured during a band member swap switched from Player 4 to drums, I noticed the glitch happened, powered off the console and rebooted in hopes it hadn't saved. Still had the error

i do hope some of this information is helpfull I haven't bothered to play tour anymore because i didn't want to loos any information, I was leader of two bands before this error occured haven't been able to access the band or my lost character, but the unlocked songs are all still playable.

This has happened to me twice now. I believe the problem is that my wife's local profile somehow saves over my xbox live profile. I end up with a copy of her character when the problem occurs. I've gotten into the habit of going to Options and manually saving before exiting the game, I do this to ensure that my xbox live save is the last one being saved. So far this seems to have resolved the issue.

I realized how much this sucks last night. This happened the me last two days ago. I posted about it a page back. I even emailed EA support about it, but no response as of yet and it doesn't even appear in my "Questions" area of the support page. I figured, what the hell - just start the band over. I was only as far as roadies....

Boy was I mistaken. Because of this glitch, I now have a lot of stuff to do over again.

1.) Remake my guy, this includes
2.) Tattoos placed all over - many layers
3.) Guitar lost....have to re-buy
4.) Guitar needs graphics reapplied to it - why bother?
5.) All clothes/money gone
6.) All scores gone
7.) All unlocked songs gone - easily re-unlocked though
8.) My band is now somewhere in Rock Band limbo as I made a new one and the other one still exists
9.) All challenges must be redone, this SUCKS as I put a lot of time into this.
10.) Band logo redo - no bigge but still a pain
11.) need I go on....

Just b*tching here, don't mind the disgruntled Rock Band 2 user.

I feel your pain, Rocketsauce. I didn't spend nearly as much time on creating my characters, but I spent plenty of time coming up with a kick ass band name, and a good amount of time creating a logo. Not to mention the time I actually spent on the tour.

This is a very serious software issue, and I am quite shocked we haven't at least gotten a "we're working on it" message.

I, too, am losing patience. It seems like it's been about two weeks since we've had an update from Sean (I didn't check the previous pages to find the exact date).

I RMAed my drum kit...I never really used it with RB1, and was hoping to play RB2 with it. But I don't like Quickplay; I was spoiled by Band World Tour in the first RB, and it seems silly to go back to RB1 now.

If this is not resolved soon, I'll be playing GH:WT on my new drum kit instead. Too bad I can't get back all the money I spent on RB DLC...

I'm pretty upset about this. I love the game but can't stand losing prgress over. I want to be able to play the tour mode and this obviously is not possible. if I was asked by a friend if they should buy the game I'd say no, wait for guitar hero, which sucks, since I loved rock band 1. Considering how long this has been out I'm shocked there isn't a fix for this already. Way to kill your fanbase Harmonix.

I posted an FYI on G4 XPlay forums and on the XBox 360 Rock Band 2 forum, but not many others that are having the problem replied to give it any focus. I think some press would definitely bring some visibility to the issue and perhaps some priority along with it, but it would also help prevent others from hitting the same bug. Basically, anyone that buys RB2 at this point should be made aware that they could lose their band/leader tour progress at any time, since no other information is being made available by the developer.

I keep checking this thread everyday in hopes of a HMX response but it looks like we will just be ignored until it's multiplat launch and there's PS3 and XB owners filling this thread to the point it can no longer be dismissed as an insignificant issue.

Settling for playing RB1 while my $60 copy of RB2 sits there collecting dust really bothers me. I was really enjoying the new 84 songs and added features until that happened on DAY 1 of playing the game.

..In response to the guy who keeps bringing up upgrading all accounts to Silver memberships, well, grats on that working so far for you but it shouldn't be our obligation to upgrade our local profiles to enjoy a game.

Upgrading all 9 of my family/friends local profiles that play RB1/2 with me would be ridiculous, besides, that still does nothing to recover my band and scores that are locked in limbo on XBL atm.

I honestly hope they add a feature for the band creators profile to recover their band, not only for this bug but for anybody who might lose a HD or have a save corrupted etc.

There's no sense in this lack of communication on addressing this growing problem.

My Profile is a Live Account.
My Wife's Profile is a Local Account.

This is obviously an issue, and I would think should be address by Harmonix, but as seems to be the case so often, there is no information provided... Similar to the infamous "Moving Pictures" release, it took two days before they said we're working on it, or even admitted there was an issue..

Come on guys, fill us in....... It really does suck to unlock all the songs, tours, and stuff then log in one day and have nothing.....

So this has now happened to three different people on my Xbox. Always with at least one local profile and one Xbox live.

The first time it happened after a long day playing with a bunch of friends, and I don't know when, but my brother's Silver account was overwritten with my Gold account.

The second time, it was when we were about to start the set to earn Roadies with my nephew's band. We wanted to switch instruments beforehand, and switched profiles without exiting World Tour mode - it gave the message about having exited a profile so it needed to go back, and when we went back in my nephew's Silver account had been overwritten with my brother's Silver account (which had earlier been overwritten with my account).

The third time it was me switching instruments at the title screen, while a different brother with a local account was signed in, and it overwrote my Gold account with his. I decided to go ahead and make a character and it said it would have to overwrite data to save him - I said not to, and backed out and went to the dashboard. When I started Rock Band 2 again, not only was the bug still in effect but the character I'd created was still there. :mad:

Note that the second and third times it happened during a single session, without having the Xbox turned on and off; I think that's unusual.

I've experienced this as well. My account (Live enabled) formed the band and my wife and friend created a local account (each). We played for a while, got the bus and some staff.

I then played the next night by myself for several hours to open up songs. I had gotten Roadies and hired more staff.

We went to play tonight and the band (and my character is gone.) The band appears under my wife and friend's accounts but only if you manage data or try to go into the Live Tour (which you can't do because my wife and friend have local accounts and can't play online.)

I am, like everyone else, disappointed in this and am hoping for an update.

This happened to me too, but i couldnt help deleting my band info cuz it was already gone. no where to be found on my hardrive or anything, so i figured the save was corrupt, and it was (said so in my maintanence area) and i had to delete it, or saving would not be possible.

DLC and normal saves or on my hard drive, now i have a backup save on my memory card because I WAS AT A GUITAR SCORE OF 10 MILLION AND NOW I HAVE NOTHING!!! 2 weeks solid gaming, -GONE-, and now all my stats and avatars are still online, and my score will not move from 10 mil, even though my actual score is 2.5 mill now, and i beat the guitar challenges on expert, the band, the bass, was working on hard on the drums on the impossible challenge, and did over 40 DLC challenges....im kinda peeved that i have to make a new character that doesnt EVEN have an actual score being recorded on live.

I've encountered the issue a third time at this point (I didn't realize that a friend playing RB2 was not Live enabled, and BAM). I am quite sad to say that this will be the last time I experience this issue, as I do not intend to play the game anymore until this issue is fixed. This glitch completely cripples an otherwise fantastic game, and it's not only insulting that Harmonix has not responded, it's downright unacceptable. I'm not trying to play the whining game here; I'm just genuinely shocked that such a great company is providing its customers with such an outrageous lack of service.

We played at a friend's place yesterday, and I can state with certainty that the Tour can be played by four players using four different characters all saved under one profile.

Until HMX responds with a patch or official workaround, this seems to be the best possible solution. Everyone posting about the glitch so far (including myself) seems to say the same thing: one profile's band/character data copied over another. If you're only using one profile, this behavior is obviously not possible.

Unfortunately this means that only one player is eligible for Achievements, and that sucks if you enjoy them like I do, but it's a small price to pay compared to losing EVERYTHING.

I'm not sure if it's possible to transfer ownership of an existing character from one profile to another, but I would recommend that starting now, everyone playing RB2 should use only a single profile if they wish to play Tour mode. That's what I'll be doing.

Sean, or anyone else from HMX... if you're reading this: don't think this means I (or we) are going to stop waiting for a response from you guys. The problem was first posted on September 12th. It happened to me personally on the 17th. There's been nothing posted from your end since September 19th. So some unlucky folks have been unable to enjoy this game properly for over 3 weeks now...most of the time that the game has been out. I'm sure that most of us paid full price for this game; last I checked, coasters shouldn't cost $60 + tax. And...even if this workaround is effective at preventing the data loss, it's not a substitute for a properly-working, fully-tested game.

I know that overall, everyone responsible for Rock Band has provided excellent service. Look at how long the hardware warranty was extended. I hope that this excellent service continues, with an announcement THIS WEEK of either an option for us to return the game for a full refund regardless of where it was purchased, or some free DLC or accessories alongside a patch that fixes the problem. A lot of us put a generous amount of time and money into this game... I've bought over 3 dozen DLC songs, was planning to buy another 10+, and I bet at least some of the people posting on this thread have bought way more. The least we can get in return is the knowledge that our business is valued and that you're going to be taking care of this problem. If taking care of this issue is not high up on the list of priorities, then it needs to be. Now.

I too have purchased DLC practically every week since Rock Band 1 came out, even went out and bought a 120GB HD to ensure that I'd have enough room for all my current DLC, future DLC, and the imported tracks from the RB1 disc. Rock Band has become a weekly addiction for me and my wife, something we really do enjoy doing together, be it 5 minutes or 5 hours. I've sunk a lot of money into this game, or "platform" as I know Harmonix has referred to it as. Up until this point, I've had nothing but love for Harmonix, dating all the way back to Frequency on the PS2.

My RB1 guitar and drums died within the first week they were released, and the customer service couldn't have been better. Where is that same service today?

I agree 100 % yyr, i spent over a MONTH play the game, racking my score up, getting everything, and since this game is so freezetastic, i have to leave the WT every set and re-save it on my back up memory card, which is MURDERING THE GAMEPLAY COMPLETELY, i literally was as IN LOVE WITH THIS GAME AS MUCH AS HUMANLY CAN BE, as odd as that sounds, and now i want to break it into a hundred pieces sometime cuz it studders, it freezes, and it deleted almost EXACTLY ONE MONTHS WORTH OF GAMING, there needs to be some sort of recall to the games or a patch or something, NOW, not in a month, ASAP, within the week because i cannot STAND playing like this having to worry if im gonna lose everything...again.

Thank you for summing up exactly what I have been thinking, this is so annoying and such a setback to players who are loyal investors in this game. My wife loves this game and I love that I finally have my wife asking me to game! With no reply from HMX and with Kotaku even picking the story up over the weekend, I hope something is done soon. last week this happened to me, i f\just finished up beating the impossible drum challange, then my and my family started to play world tour, 3 people, all on different profiles, two of them live enabled, including mine. after about 30 minutes of worldd tour play time, we decided to go out and go to the rock shop, when we backed out, it got to the band page, then froze. we shut it down, the next day, i turned it on, only my band and characters were gone!

At least we are starting to get some press out there about the issue which is great. Not only should it put some added pressure on Harmonix, but it should raise awareness of the specific multiplayer issue.

Since getting wiped out, I took the first week away from the game entirely, then I slowly started to do some QA testing for Harmonix. I went back to solo play on the drum trainer and quickplay, which seemed to be ok (but much much less fun). I haven't played with the family since the wipe, but at least now I know that I should be able to do so as long as they use characters from my profile only and we don't use anyone else's Live or local profiles. I was able to complete some challenges and did the world tour up to around the roadies, and with just me logged in and playing I haven't had any more wipes so far.

Although the game is still somewhat playable, the bug is restraining those affected from the full experience. It's not acceptable to be bugged for this long without a formal update from Harmonix beyond the minimal initial interaction to ask some troubleshooting questions. Maybe we need to raise awareness to someone other than a moderator of a tech support forum. Until the bug starts to impact forecasted sales of the product, it's not likely to get much focus. Any suggestions?

No, you shouldn't stop playing. So far the number of people that this has happened to is pretty small and it is an issue we are dedicating a lot of resources into trying to find a good repro case for. If you do get it please reply to this post - http://rockband.com/forums/showpost....0&postcount=28 and answer the questions therein. It will help us find what the cause is and get rid of it.

On one hand I'm happy to see any acknowledgement...on the other, I don't see why it wasn't made here, and made sooner.

Okay We may be a good candidate for this. My wife and I are the only people who ever play this game on this console. and our playing habits are pretty consistant.

1. We recently unlocked the big tour bus
2. We were working on Challenges (had never done these before)
3. n/a
4. My Profile is xBox Live Gold account, Wife is Local account
5. Played the "Moving Pictures" challenge
6. 2~3 hours
7. We've never played anyone on a live connection
8. We only play in Local Tour mode.
9. We've never used any cheat codes
10. We use the 120gig drive on an Elite System same as DLC
11. My wife was playing alone without my profile logged in (I think this may be a likely suspect) I logged in later that night, with no issues, but the next day when we turned the game on, none of my profile was anywhere to be found. that was the first time we've she had played alone on her profile only.

We have not deleted any saved game data, and I really REALLY hope that there is a way to recover what we lost.

Thanks for working on this and acknowledging the issue and please try to update us on the resolution, a little info goes a LONG way.

Started a setlist at the quarter hole. System froze, let it set for a couple minutes, tried to bring up the xbox dash by pressing the xbox button on controller, nothing, so powered off.

Around 2 hours.

7. Did you connect with anyone on Xbox Live and played a few online gigs?

No, only have silver account.

Okay, now lets get a couple of things straight here. The only reason why it is a "small" problem is because there are not that many people who play with one xbox live account and one local account. I'm sure that if everyone followed the exact scenario that people are having everyone would get the bug. It only happens ON Xbox 360 because it has to do with a way they programmed the auto save on the game and obviously it is not that simple. I understand that this is taking a long time because they are probably trying to find a way to recover our data, but sorry Harmonix coming from someone who has had a 360 since the day they came out, and has over 60k gamerscore, and is a Test Engineer, this is completely unacceptable. I have seen a lot of bugs but none like this that showed such lack of communication. Does anyone remember the Oblivion glitch with the Shivering Isles? That had a possibility to completely erase your entire game save much like this. Bethseda on the other hand, a very reputible company, took care of the matter right away and provided an update in their forums and eventually led to a system update. This has been going on for a while and deserves an update in THIS forum no matter how brief it may be. Start acting like a company who cares about their customers that buy content every week. No matter how small we may be we are still customers. If people are like me they are waiting to see if they can recover their band before starting a new one in tour mode and instead playing quickplay for the time being. If it is still going to take a while let us know so that we may create a new one. Most important point: No matter how small the bug, I paid for a 60$ game with all the features not a 20$ game, fix the bug or provide an update THAT simple. Communicate, communicate, communicate, come on this took me like ten minutes.

I tried to recreate my band from rockband 1. However now that i have done that and gotten over 1,000,000 fans i find they have a new rockband website that allows you to do some cool things with your band characters and things. But since my band was already in Live from Rockband 1, Rockband 2 doesnt recognize it as a band for rock band 2 and my character is not updated either. I thought about deleting all of my rock band 1 profiles and hope it works, but i am worried it wont fix the issue. You would think that carrying over a previous band name would be an option.

For me, it's even more than the $60 invesment for RB2. I have 104 downloaded songs as well. Yes, some of those were freebies, but it's still a significant amount of money I've spent on this company overall and I'm sure it's not a "pretty small" number of people that have made a similar investment.

ChiefVatoLoco, the problem is not isolated to just people with one Live and one local account. I have a Live account, and 3 local accounts that my friends play on.
It's been a week since I lost my progress.
I too have given up on playing Tour Mode until this is fixed. It's quickplay for us. I created another band just to do the challenges that will unlock the rest of the songs so we can have them in Quickplay.
Fitting enough, we called our new band "WTF? Our band disappeared!"
Now that all the songs are unlocked, we will wait until our band is available again to play the Tour again.
I checked the Merch page of the new site, and my character (and my copied brother's character from the glitch) and both bands are showing in there, so at least they are still showing in there.
I have bought all the DLC except for one song (and will continue to), but I find the lack of
response to this issue very dissapointing.:(

well, i guess for me is worse, i am in mexico city, i bought my RB2 in amazon.com, and a friend in san antonio got it for me, he came to mexico, and gave me the game, now, he's gone to usa again, and my game is freezing up all the time, this anoying and frustrating bug, if harmonix replace the games, how the hell will i get my new copy?????, i hope they will fix it by downloading a patch, and hope that will be soon, because, if they replace de discs, im so ****ed up, and spent about 70 usd in a piece os crap

WELL JUST IN CASE ANYONE IS ACTUALLY READING FROM HARMONIX!!!! I created a new band because I AM TIRED OF WAITING, and low and behold now the LEADERBOARDS ARE GLITCHING! I got my score to 10 million 5 hundred thousand now, and its not updating my rank...at all.. per single song it updates when i get over the score, but now...AND IF THAT SCORE IS THE COMPILATION OF ALL THE DISC SONG SCORES FOR CAREER, I CANT EVEN CHECK IF IM NEAR MY OLD SCORE NOW!!!!! UGHHHHH!!!! WHY cant i just delete my old scores, WHY?! I loved RB1 to death, but just as everyone else is saying (i hope u guys know this made it on to german MTV making your case even WORSE over here in Europe) I AM GETTING TIRED OF WAITING, if HMX knew this was there, why even release the game yet, id gladly have waited an extra month for a game that wasnt one of the glitchiest pieces of crap ive ever seen in a game. DONT GET ME WRONG, awsome game, have about 150 dlc, but, and this is a big but, 150 dlc is worth nothing if I CANT SEE MY PROGRESS AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!! My son and I created a 2nd band and I simply unplug my live connection before inserting the disc everytime until this game is patched or we hear something from HMX.

So far we've played around 20 hours with our 2nd band, on world tour and challenges without problems of freezing or the band deletion.

All new DLC I've popped in my RB1 disc to buy em, then disconnect to play RB2.

I'm still hating that we have to play in fear of yet again losing all our work and also can't enjoy the online features of the game but watching my investment collecting dust was just making me bitter towards the game and company I favor the most in the gaming industry.

I dont know if this'll help anybody, but it worked for me, since no one is saying anything. I wasn't able to get my character and band back (that will have to be done by HMX) but i did have the problem of my scores staying where they were before the glitch and not moving even if i beat them. So all i had to do was unlink my account from my system, and re-link it, and then all the scores were refreshed...so yeah, i dont know if this helps anyone, but it worked for me, know it doesnt solve the glitch, but every bit counts?

If you have a memory card, occasionally manually save to that right now, i know you shouldn't have to, but its the safest bet right now. And after you save it to the memory card, save it to the hard drive, so it selects that as the autosave memory unit again, then when you are playing keep the memory card out of the slot and if it happens again, just load.

And like i just said, if ur score wont change, this worked for me, unlink account from rockband.com, re-link 10 minutes later. and that refreshed all my scores.

First time posting, and it's because another band and character has been overwritten, Zombie's Ate My Kit and my character were reported missing today when i logged on and noticed it wasn't showing up on local tour but it does on live tour as my friend's character but not mine. I've called Rock Band support and didn't get anything, I called Xbox Live and they said they might be able to recover it within two days.. I'm still waiting for a patch from HMX though.. All of my problems are exactly the same as most of yours, never even heard of the problem till today and really dissapointed in HMX's lack of support.

Well last night, my wife and I got to the roadie challenge again. This is where we got the glitch last time. She is still a local account. We'll see what happens...

When we are done playing, I always exit to the main screen and make sure I save my Gold profile before I turn off the game. That has worked so far, again we'll see what happens.....

In the "real world" the QA tester responsible for integrating with Microsoft's profiles as well as the Communication/Marketing person responsible for community support would both be relieved of their bonus or opportunity for an annual pay increase based on performance, or simply fired if this isn't their first total screw up. In the real world, developers and testers would be working around the clock in shifts to fix a problem like this.

I doubt that Harmonix is like big business though, and everyone is probably buddies that support each other ("Dude, too bad that you totally screwed a few hundred of our customers. Let's go out for some brewskies to take your mind off it."). Lack of communication from Harmonix, here in this specific thread, is open to any interpretation that we, the customers want (too busy, too rude, don't care, etc.).

I am currently considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I know it seems like that may be going to an extreme, but I genuinely feel that we (the customers) are being royally screwed here. Would anyone else be willing to help me in filing said claim?

I think the best solution would be a recover character/band data....

But of course my profile has bands and characters that I deleted.....but still on my page......Bah.

You should be able to delete your character/band page profile stuff with your linked account.

This would really be the best solution.

I don't know why nobody from HMX has posted in this thread about it, but they contacted a few of us personally via PM and e-mail.

They have given us access to a section of the forum reserved for playtesters, and have asked us for more information there. I've been too busy to post there as of yet, but this seems to be evidence that they are, in fact, working on the problem in some capacity (although I don't know how high it is on their priority list).

So...uh, I guess just wait patiently until they announce something. In the meantime:
1) As I posted a few pages back: if you use only one profile, nobody else's data can overwrite yours. So use a single user profile and have everyone you play with create characters on it.
2) Continue to post details on your individual issues here, on the chance that they're still reading this thread.

1. How far did you progress in Tour?
Had multiple bands and characters going. When the error occurred, the band that was playing was after the plane and before roadies, I think...

2. What was the last event that was unlocked? (i.e. Van, Bus, etc.) Believe it was the plane, but not 100% sure

3. Has anyone gotten this issue to occur before unlocking the Bus (only playing a few gigs)?
Definitely after the bus.

4. What type of gamer profiles were you using during the progression? (XBOX Live enabled, Silver profiles, local profiles)
Were using two XBox Live silver accounts (mine and my wife's). Our son had just gotten done playing with us though, and he was still signed into the XBox (although not playing then) and his account is a local one.

5. What was the last thing that you did before powering down the system?
The game crashed before starting a 2nd-tier venue 4-song Mystery set. Turned off the XBox due to the problem and my data was all a duplicate of hers when I went to play later.

6. How long were you playing RB2 on the last session before this occurred? (time from power on/reset to powering down/resetting the system)
Quite a while, probably over 6 hours on different bands and accounts.
7. Did you connect with anyone on Xbox Live and played a few online gigs?
No, no online play at all.

8. Were you playing on Local Tour or Xbox Live Tour?
Local Tour

9. Had you, at any point, enabled a cheat in the Game Modifiers section (unlock all)?
Cheat for unlock all was enabled back when they first came out to check everything out, but no cheats were enabled at all during the day this happened.

10. What type of storage are you using to save your band and character data? Hard Drive, Memory Unit, both? If using both, do you have your DLC stored to one device and your band stored to another?
20 gig Hard Drive only

11. What were you doing prior to entering Tour mode (i.e. Were you playing Quickplay, Head to Head, Set Challenges, Battle of the Bands, etc.)? How long were you playing in these modes? Also, were there other people playing in these modes?
Set challenge with two players.
Hope those answers all help and there is resolution soon...

- Playing local tour with 1 Gold account plus one guest on Gold account, one Silver account with one guest on silver account. No challenges, local tour only. Problem did not occur until after Merch Store section of Rock Band website was utilized. After visiting web site, the only place my character/band exists is on profile page of RB web site.

this is such a ***** honestly. twice now i have had bands completely wiped with out a trace. i have a gold live account and none of the other band members where signed into accounts. all characters where created under my own live name. this last time we had just gotten the van when we decided to take a break and backed out onto the title screen. knowing of the glitch i poped back into local world tour to see if my band lasted but they had already gone. the game showed no sign of freezing and it never turned off for me. i have three other bands made in the same way and none of them have had this problem. maybe its because these are the only bands with a full roster? between this and the linking problem im getting really frustrated. i love these games and i wish they would love me back

Well I lost my forth band today. I was playing, and creating a backup on a memeory card, and when my friend went to back up the progress, he copied a blank profile without knowing it. The Band had been there when he backout out, but after saving both the Copy and the Original were blank.

We are very much aware of this issue and we are definitely making it a priority. There are several QA testers that have been following this thread, and collecting information. That's the best help that you guys can give us. Check out HMXSean's post on the first page and answer those questions as best you can. That will go a long way towards helping us gain a better understanding of why you lost your save game data.

Several posters who have lost their saved band data have been asked to post in a private sub forum as a focus group of sorts. We're still combing this thread and compiling information, but we set up the sub forum to work closely with a handful of posters so we can gain as much information about the situation as possible.

I've you've received a PM to post in this sub forum please try to find a moment to make time to check it out. QA testers in that site will ask for more detailed information and it can only help both of us understand this save data issue better.

Again, this is something that we're very much aware of but unfortunately don't have much additional info that we can pass along to you right now. This has affected several HMX devs as well, and you can rest assured that they were just as frustrated as those of you that have posted here. Please keep passing along as much information as possible and fill out HMXSean's Q&A from the first page if you haven't already. We'll keep you posted as we have more information.

I just turned on my 360 this morning and all of my progress is gone. My character and the bands I had associated with him are all deleted. My girlfriend's character even copied over to my name. Thanks Harmonix. Honestly, I don't feel like playing this game anymore now that this has happened.

Has anyone restored a deleted band from the back up memory card? I just want to be sure this works incase it happens to me, i don't have many people to play RB with, so i don't want to have to start over for nothing.

I'm interested in an answer to this question. I would like to plan my strategy before I play again and possibly lose my band. Has anyone been able to restore a deleted band from a Memory card backup? Thanks.

Good to hear from a dev.

Some additional info on my case in case it might help.

My wife is a local and I am a silver account as stated a few pages back. It seems that my band is still there somewhere but without a leader. My leader char seems to have been overwritten by my wifes char. I have since created another band and went to the profile and made my wifes char a stand in. What I have noticed is that even though my wife has since changed outfits/hair/etc, the stand in is being pulled from my account and looks the same as when originally created. Not sure how clear that explaination is but hope it helps.

Alright this happened to me AGAIN last night. Arghhhhh! I posted a few pages back about my first issue. Last night, I was playing with my wife. I am Xbox Live enabled, she is a local account. I was playing a Battle of the Bands on Live World Tour. I exited out of this as she wanted tom play, so I guess we were still in Xbox Live Tour when we started. We played a few songs in a few cities.

At one point (and this never happens) I was prompted to overwrite my band data. Usually it just autosaves you know? Anyway, I was real leary of doing this but I did it anyway. We played a few more songs and then when we were done, I turned off the system. Usually I would have exited to the title screen and resaved my account for paranoia reasons as I wanted to avoid the glitch. I was tired and did not.

Today when I went to play, the band was gone. Once again her character was available on my account but mine, and our band was gone. The data is still there but the band is not.

Bus was big milestone, I think we hired the guy who hates us but does a good job.

Worked fine for us til then.

Band leader was XBOX Live gold, bassist was local profile. The character and band under the local profile are now stored under the XBOX Live gold profile, and the Live profile's character is deleted. The bands are all inaccessible except to delete them.

I think I bought steampunk goggles on the XBOX Live profile's character.

Hard drive, and I have DLC and the exported RB1 tracks stored on the same HDD.

We typically go from boot up straight into the tour, play for a while, and then sometimes do some Quickplay to wind down. The last time before this happened I went to the shop for ther first time and got non-default clothes for my character before shutting down.


I hope you have some good QA people tackling this, but honestly, is there much hope of recovering the deleted characters, and moving the misplaced ones back to their correct profiles? If not, I will be less hesitant about starting over.

We had just attempted the Endless Setlist last Friday.

Four players. One gold profile account, one silver account, another character listed on the silver account, and
one local account with no xbox live access.

The silver account controls the band, bubbletron.
The silver account had eight or nine other characters made to simplify the log-in process when friends come over and want to play as themselves.

We had arrived at Abnormality song, none of us had ever played it. We paused via xbox button. One guitarist pushed a green button, accessing the log in scren. The other guitarist pushed green as well, logging in as a different user account, and sending us back to the first screen. The last 6 hours of our life were rendered meaningless.

The silver account and the no xbox live account went back to the game on Wednsday, found the Abnormality song and practiced it a few times. Guitar and Vocals.

The four of us just returned to it this Friday. We discovered the silver account only listed the Gold account's band and character. The MANAGE DATA option lists bubbletron but only let us delete it.

We are now sitting here in a ball of despair.

Never. We did look at the Battle of the Band options.

Two weeks ago we had the never fail cheat on when four people who had never played the game came over to check it out.
We also tried the fast fretboard cheat once.

20 gigabyte hard drive. The xbox's MANAGE DATA has six megabyte files in all three of the user profile accounts for Rock Band 2.

Went to quickplay to see if Abnormality was on the list yet. It wasn't. Went to Tour mode, and saw the error. Came here.

Back in the day, our Guitar Hero 1 would randomly delete its memory as well. Except we could get that back in a single dedicated lazy sunday afternoon. This is a much bigger problem/hassle.

Okay, I have to go be depressed now. We hope you figure this out.

All my account characters are listed to have their photos taken/have merch shilled to them.

Technically the Rodie since we completed it, but without a problem would be the Jet.

Only thing we have done before was the No Fail. It was not set at the time of freezing.

Rock Band information is stored to Hard Drive along with the game. The profiles are on a Memory Unit.

Checked out the Store then went to Tour Mode.



Just to be clear here is what happened to us:
- We were playing Tour Mode with 4 players for a few sessions
- Then two players backed out of the session but didn't log out on Xbox or turn off controller
- Then another backed out of the session but didn't log out on Xbox or turn off controller
- The last logged in player did a few sessions in Tour mode but the only Player. We've found we can still have one person play Tour Mode with our band even if he's not the owner as long as we don't back out all the way to the screen where you choose the bands. That's what he did.
- Then two more logged back in to play a session, and suddenly the band we were using was gone, as well as the Characters that belonged to the band leader's profile
- After panicking and looking around, we finally found our band data and the leader's characters under yet another Xbox account from our box, but one that hadn't even been used all night.

I think that about covers it. This sucks. I can deal with this once, and at least our band isn't completely gone but now it's under an account that hardly gets used and isn't Xbox live enabled. Even if you fix this bug it would still be nice if you could also add the option to move a band from one owner to another.

Oh hey or here's some rocket science, how about doing away with band owners?!

It seems there is a problem on my machine with Rock Band files being corrupt which causes the entire machine to freeze. I don't have the same problem as others and am not losing band members/leaders, but the entire system just freezes.

I'm trying to remember where I was when this started but I believe I had just completed the Roadie gigs in London... but not 100% about that.

When I am playing on my profile, I can sometimes at least get through the menus and start a song but it will freeze. The only fix is to power down the Xbox and try again only to find it will freeze again. I set-up a new a profile and started a new tour. I was able to get about 3/4 of the way through the second song and received the following message:

"The song 'Blood Doll' appears to be corrupt, and the game cannot proceed from this point. Your game session has been restarted."

So I hit continue and tried a different song. Same error...but at least it wasn't freezing the machine.

Now, are these corrupt files coming from a problem with installation or DLC or the fact that I imported my RB1 songs? Or is this possibly an issue with my main profile and the freezing issues I am having there? I would hate to completely delete all of the game data as well as saved games to start all over only to find that it wasn't the issue.

Any info would be appreciated.

Nothing just jumped into local tour.

I have posted prior but I have noticed some odd things lately. For one My profile (the Gold account) is missing the band leader and now for some reason I have the character from my housemate (the local profile) under my account and her's. Also, we can both log in as that character at the same time.

Just had my first freeze.....

I was looking at the DLC in the in-game store, tried to go back to the menu so I Could play a song, and it froze right there.

It's like I've hit the messed up package jackpot.

Messed up drums, wrong guitar, game freezing. I've not tried the mic yet, but I'm assuming something it wrong with that as well, lol..

Been attacked by the character/band bug for the 3rd time now. Already posted the details of first occurence earlier in this thread thread.

The only thing to add to the first occurence is that after the first character/band loss, I made another toon, played with son and wife. I play on a gold profile, they play on local profiles. Immediately after unlocking the van, the game froze. Powered down/powered up system to reset. My wife's data loaded, my son's data loaded, but my data would not load. Instead the game would freeze when my data attempted to load. Following the instructions posted early in this thread, I did not delete save file, but moved the data onto portable memory card and started new data in order to play.

After creating 3rd new toon/2nd band, I was playing co-op in local tour. I using my gold account, wife's was on her local. Just opened up being able to hire staff. Hired the staff, backed out and game froze. Reloaded console/game, and there it is again. My toon and band are gone, and my wife's proifle characters are available under my profile...again.



Patiently awaiting a fix. I will not play until it is. Be a shame to have free time during the competition's release in the next week or so. Hope it does not come to that, but I'm not going to keep investing money into a broken product.

I have also been experiencing issues similar to these. It seems that my game was able to save an early version of my band near the beginning of the tour and has been defaulting back to this save each time it starts regardless of how far I have progressed in the tour.

This thread really needs to be stickied.

I assume unlocking means completing the bus challenge. If so, then no. If unlocking simply means having the bus challenge available, then yes. (Our band is a European band if that makes a difference).

PS3 system. Using the administrator account on the PS3

Backed out to title menu (the first menu you see upon powering the game up. Closed the game using the PS3 button. Then turned console off

The no fail mode was enabled, can't remember the exact name of it.

Just the 80 gig PS3 Hard drive.

The issue has occurred after going straight to tour mode upon startup and after playing quick play upon startup and then going to tour mode.


I've been very disappointed in the initial release of rock band 2. This game was not cheap and I expected a very polished package. It is a very fun game to play, but the various technical and hardware problems are crippling it. This game was not ready for prime time.

Rock Band information is stored to Hard Drive along with the game. Profiles are located on the Hard Drive as well.

We were playing the tour under our band, a member was leaving, so we backed all the way to the main menu, and then proceeded to try and sign someone else in.



One thing we did note was that during the time before the xbox froze, we received an odd message asking us if we wanted to overwrite our saved data. When prompted we selected yes.

After finishing playing I now have the issue where one of the offline gamertag's bands is now under my profile, and her character is now under my Live Profile. I cannot see the character that I created, and cannot find her in any of the profiles.

We have 4 people (1 live and 3 local accounts) and would be very interested in assisting Harmonix in troubleshooting this issue.

Bought RB2. Loaded it in the PS3. Played my first song, no problem. Went to play my next song. Game loaded up the song, began playing it, but ALL of my controllers ( guitar, drums, even PS controller) was frozen. No response from any of them. The only way I could turn off the PS was to hold down the power button manually. So, I try again and again and again, same thing happens. So, then I erased the the newly created Rock Band 2 file from the PS, create it again thinking maybe that was the problem somehow. IT FROZE AGAIN!!! WTF??? All that money for a game and it doesn't work? Yes, I have DLC on there. No, I haven't yet bought or downloaded the export key for the songs for RB1. How do I fix this?

Seems as though it only is happening when adding a local profiles instead of XBox silver or gold.

This is the exact method I've been using for the past 3 weeks and haven't lost my 2nd band yet.

Sucks to sacrifice leaderboards, online challenges and multiplayer but until this game is patched I would recommend anyone playing with local or silver profiles mixed with a live acct to do the same.

I get all my DLC through RB1 interface, then play RB2 when disconnected. Hopefully, they resolve this issue soon.

I'm bumping this to stress the band name issue. I'm really begging for HMX to fix this problem.

I had a band with a name I really liked, but I deleted it just to reset the challenge progress and such. When I attempted to recreate the band, I recieved an error message saying that the name was already taken, although it was taken by me!

Is there a way to reclaim these band names, instead of letting them go to waste? It seems like an inconvenience for both the player and the leaderboard server. And it seems like many others are having similar issues.

If this problem was addressed in the last 25 pages, someone please let me know (sorry, I didn't go through every page in this thread).
