The Dream Theater 'Images and Words' for Full Album DLC thread

Images and Words

It is a great choice if HMX were to choose one Dream Theater album for DLC. We need more progressive metal in the game. Two songs from Dream Theater just isn't enough. We should get this whole album~ as a drummer, I don't see any other album being as fun as this one would. Challenging for sure, but none of the songs would be really beyond impossible to the point where it is no longer fun. Also~ for me~ this is the only Dream Theater album that I can really listen to over and over again. The songs are just fantastic. Portnoy has said he would like for more Dream Theater in Rock Band~ HMX, you know you could make it happen! I would never be happier if this dream of mine came true.

My most wanted song from this album is Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and The Sleeper.

I have been a Dream Theater fan since Images and Words so I completely agree that this would be a very nice album DLC.

Pull Me Under was just announced for GH:WT....would we be able to also get it? Another Day and Surrounded are "slow" songs but very welcome. Since it is DLC it isn't like people can complain about this being on the actual disc. Take the Time would be fun to play, and Metroplis 1 would just be insane....especially the last part of the song where it is just an instrumental funfest. Under a Glass Moon would plesae many people and I agree...Wait for Sleep is probably the only "downside" to the album for playing purposes.

What has me intrigued is Learning to Live.....love the length, the sound,...I would love to just see that for DLC if possible.

Nope~ they don't always have solos~ and they aren't all the same either~ I think every album I've heard from them have had a different sound, though they may be similar in some way. This is one of my favorite songs from them~ Disappear

I'm sure it's not just you. Yes many of their songs contain guitar solos as do many prog songs. If you really listen to them, and I mean sit there not doing anything and listen and you still think they all sound the same then prog is not for you. As someone said before each album generally has the same sort of feel and sound throught and it changes from album to album.

As for would I like it in the game, yes I would.

I'm a bit surprised that they made this song the final encore that plays during the credits, just as Through The Fire and The Flames was. I was thinking it would be Crazy Train this time around~

Also, the soon to be released Dr. Feelgood album included an intro track to the album, and they just decided to remove it~ so there wouldn't be a problem with "Wait for Sleep" now~

Well, there's an interview with Portnoy in the announcements section, when they do that it usually means they have big plans for that band (see Rush and Motely Crue). So its possible, but maybe not this album.

I don't see why it can't be this album~ just because a song from Octavarium is in RB2 doesn't mean we HAVE to get Octavarium as an album. We also have DLC from Systematic Chaos.

I'd be seriously happy if they gave us anything from Images and Words. Maybe just one song so that there are three from Dream Theater in the game. I'm hoping it's Metropolis Pt. 1~ or if it HAS to be from another album, The Glass Prison.

Sorry, I consider Images and Words to be Dream Theater's Magnum Opus~ their absolute best work to date.
I don't understand how you can call yourself a Dream Theater fan and not support this thread.

The only other album I would like is Awake. I honestly haven't heard all of Train of Thought or Systematic Chaos, but from listening to all their other albums, nothing has lived up to the greatness of Images and Words in my mind. I just don't really like their heavier stuff as much.

Metropolis Pt. 1 will always be my favorite Dream Theater song though~ and is the main reason for this thread. I must have that song

I'm gonna take a guess and say you mostly play guitar~ because of the 'true potential' comment~ if so, I can see why you would want their later stuff (obviously Petrucci has improved over the years).

Well, I'm a drummer and there's no denying that Images and Words would be insanely fun for drummers~ I don't want an album that's incredibly hard on drums. An album filled with Panic Attack like drum songs~ that's not my idea of fun and I would never play any of the songs.

Just another reason why I think Images and Words is the perfect Dream Theater album for the game~ as a drummer. The songs are challenging without being incredibly difficult~ I know it would be awesome just by listening

Mostly guitar but I am moving into singing, and Train of Thought has alot of great songs to sing compared to images and words. A lot of the album isn't too bad on drums, I would say give or take easier to about the same as Panic Attack

I would love anything more by Dream Theater to be in the game, but you guys are smoking crack if you ask me. Metropolis Pt.2:Scenes from a Memory is their "mangum opus" in my opinion. Of course if I had my way I'd say all of their albums are Magnum Opi. Anything more from Dream Theater would be HIGHLY appreciated HMX. I know Mike and the band are more than willing to work with you guys.

Stream of Consciousness is a awesome instrumental. It's really the only song I like from Train of Thought.
Endless Sacrifice is good too~

Well even though stream is a great song, Songs like This Dying Soul, Endless Sacrifice, In the Name of God all have awesome singing along with guitar and bass, Honor thy father is insane for drums, and As I am is just a sick song. I wouldn't go as far as saying Train of Thought isn't a good album, but I can't see it as being nearly as fun as Images and Words. The only other album that comes close to my idea of fun is Awake

Sure, that would be easy since it's separated into different tracks on the actual album. Unlike other songs that aren't separated~ like Octavarium

(His dad is high up in the SAAB technology division) He uses an open source mod that allows you to put any song into GHIII on the comp. as long as you have an .mp3 or .wav. You could get with a decent comp. and do it. I would totally tell you the name of the mod, but I don't know. Sorry. It's rather interesting. You can chart it yourself, or use charts by others. Windows only, by the way.

This is a great album that should be DLC. Hopefully, GH:WT having Pull Me Under won't affect the possibility of getting this. Sadly, I think Wait For Sleep would have to be remixed to be better suited for RB. I'm not that fond of remixing but oh well.

They wouldn't remix it~ they would just release the rest of the album with out it. That's what they did with the intro track to Dr. Feelgood.

I agree that it would be great to have any DT album on rock band, but i just don't think Images and Words is the best one for the job. As for Train of Thought, it would be good but would have to be undercharted on drums, especially the bass pedal. But if they were to put images and words, i would like some live versions of surrounded or take the time.

I just can't get into Octavarium. The only song I really like is the title track~ I'd be more than happy if they released that as a single.

I don't know how die-hard of a DT fan you are, but I have numerous bootlegs of a version of Wait for Sleep that has the full band. It is pretty amazing and I am sure Mike would donate one of the fifty million copies of the song he has if that is what HMX wanted.

See, I don't see why they'd have to exclude Wait for Sleep. Because it has pretty much the same melody/musical themes as Learning to Live, I think that should they release this album, the two should be connected as one track (a la The Hellion/Electric Eye)

Or if they don't do that, Vocals still needs some compensation for the instrumentals.

See, I don't see why they'd have to exclude Wait for Sleep. Because it has pretty much the same melody/musical themes as Learning to Live, I think that should they release this album, the two should be connected as one track (a la The Hellion/Electric Eye)

Or if they don't do that, Vocals still needs some compensation for the instrumentals.
Learning to Live is already so long, I don't think they could do that.

What if they gave us the live version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f0F1Qafpi8) of it? That way it would work, but there's not a lot for non-vocalists to play.

You would be right, the songs are A Rite Of Passage, and A Nightmare To Remember, they both sound like train of thought, but with an edge like some of the more proggy songs they have. One thing to note though, is that the two songs are missing about 30 seconds at the end. All in all, it's sounds amazing.

For the love of God and all that is holy... please, please, PLEASE HMX, give us more Dream Theater!!! I have been begging for more dream theater from the moment I failed Constant Motion the first time. They are masters of their craft, and everything you could put in the game by them will be well taken. I love playing DT on any instrument, even vocals, which I almost refuse to play on most days. While I would really enjoy Systematic Chaos, I realize many of the songs are just a bit too long, but I&W would be amazing. As would Awake. Or Octavarium. Oh, screw it, just put their albums on a board and throw a dart to pick one! Just give us more DT! Hell, see if you can get a release of Black Clouds and Silver Linings to release close to the CD release date, I don't care. I, obviously, voted for a yes on the poll. There is no such thing as too much DT (or The Who or Rush, but that's for another thread, I'm sure).

As a bassist, I would LOVE to see more of Myung's work in Rock Band. Ever since I listened to my first DT song about 5 years ago, I had a feeling they'd be perfect for any music game. I still feel that same feeling when I constantly fail Panic Attack's bassline.

I am a massive Dream Theater fan, and I think that out of all their albums (I've listened to them all), Images and Words would probably be the best for Rock Band. It has everything in it. Brilliant Guitar, Drums, Bass and Vocal parts. The only song that wouldn't quite fit would be Wait For Sleep, but I honestly wouldn't mind only singing on that. The awesomeness of every other song would more than compensate for it. Especially Under A Glass Moon and Metropolis.

If this was released as DLC, I would buy it for sure. I don't buy much DLC, but I would most definitely get the whole album.

Studio solo yes and it is also considered one of the best solos of all time. I think it was #96 or something like that (I believe it was the Rolling Stone that made the list), but yeah, some of Petrucci's live solos surpass it.

Honestly~ if the band themselves have no problem with someone charting and releasing their entire catalog to the RBN~ how hard could it really be for them to get this album (and others) in the game? I understand they have to deal with the labels and everything~ but we already have two of their songs in the game.

Another possibility is for HMX to go ahead and try for Images and Words and some of their other albums themselves! I've been waiting a really long time for some of these songs~ and it really seemed like our dreams were coming true with the RBN~ but since the guy who said he'd chart the songs recently posted that there was no recent progress on anything... please HMX~ I think you guys can definitely make some kind of a move here and help us Dream Theater fans out!
