Beatmania tended to be more about the keyboards than the turntable. This sounds like a turntable version of guitar hero.

Actually most of the people I associate with listen to industrial and techno and I dont think any of them have even touched anything close to that. Booze is another story, but drugs? Nah. Nice to lump us all together though because that's what TV protrays it as.

As an aside, don't kid yourself, alcohol is a serious drug, worse for you than many of the illegal ones. Just because it happens to be legal doesn't mean it's automatically better.

I think it means you play a familar rhythm game but with a different shaped controller and different genres of music, most likely. And instead of a fake whammy you have a fake turntable.
