View Full Version : BWT - Hard is the new Medium

From the IGN Article:
It should be noted that there is a cap for fans based on the lowest difficulty level set by a band member. Once you his a quarter-million fans, you can no longer play on medium if you want to add more fans. To get to the top, everyone will need to be playing at least on hard difficulty, which could prove an issue for those not adept at music games.
So it seems that in order to open up new venues, you have to have a certain # of fans, and in order to get more than 250,000 you & your band must all play on Hard.
I'm REALLY hoping that I'm able to pull out the skills needed to make it on Hard. *laugh*

Makes sense. Medium players are slackers...

I really wish I had a witty retort for that. *laugh*

I noticed that when I read the review. I'm sort of sad, because this means that after we get 250,000 fans, I've gotta kick it up a notch on the drums to Hard.

Hopefully though, you'll be able to play on hard drums after going through all the songs on Med.

That might make it tough for people that dont have a friend that can drum or sing. Expecially the drumming. Hopefully I will be able to rise to the challenge.

That's kinda what I'm hoping. If I can make Hard Drums or Hard Bass work for me & my girlfriend can sing on Hard, I think we'll be okay. Either that or I'll be calling in some of my friends who can kick the $#!^ out of Expert on GH & have them play Guitar for me.
That is until I can do so myself, of course. ;)

You should be able to pick your difficulty before every set in BWT. Also, I think the only things you won't be able to do on medium will be the hall of fame, and a few other things like that. You should still be able to get all the songs (I think).

From what I understand, in order to unlock certain cities & venues you have to have a certain # of stars AND a certain # of fans. I'd hate to miss out on somewhere like Tokyo or something because I can't play on Hard.
Though to be fair, I'm not TOO worried. I figure with enough practice I'll be able to hold my own. ;)

I think I read somewhere you won't ever have to go to hard or up. Il find it.

Not sure I'm real keen on that idea. If the emphasis is on getting together a bunch of friends/family and having a good time, then why put certain parts of BWT off limits to people that can't play above medium and/or don't have friends/family who can play above medium? BWT was already largely off-limits to solo players, this would only make significant chunks of BWT off-limits to the more casual players.
On a side note, I thought I read somewhere that it was medium difficulty (not hard) that you had to play at to progress past a certain point. The IGN reviewers seemed to have their collective heads up their collective poop chutes when they wrote the review, so I'll take that part of their review with several grains of salt.

It's not like it's going to make you start playing hard right when you start...I'm sure that by the time you reach a quater of a million fans everyone you're playing with (Even family) will be able to at least hold their own in hard...Even one of my friends who I never thought would get past easy is starting to do ok on hard (And that's GHIII's hard)...

That's very true. I'm going to reserve judgment until I've had a chance to play myself... I just find "Hard" very daunting. *laugh*

My sister and brother in law are likely never going to get to hard difficulty. It's taking everything they've got to do decently on easy. They aren't gamers and I can't turn them into gamers even after tons of practice.
It's my understanding that the only things that lie past Medium are the hardcore challenges, like the Hall of Fame run and some of the insane-o setlists. Even "Endless Setlist" can be done on medium, from what the achievements say. So, hopefully, you can get almost to the end of the BWT experience without moving to hard.
If not... then it's baffling, because HMX is typically very inclusive, and they have to know that many of us with real, adult lives are not going to be able to get players capable of hard in our houses for as many hours as it takes to play through BWT. It's just absurd and caters specifically to the teenage set with hours and hours of afterschool time with the friends.

I believe you are right. On medium you should still unlock all the songs and be able to make setlists, even if you can't get inducted to the Hall of Fame.

After talking with a friend who HAS played it, he said that in order to unlock cities like Moscow & Tokyo, everyone in the band has to play on Hard. :|

But does it unlock all the songs on medium?

With all the other restrictions on BWT this one seems really questionable and its really the only one I have an issue with. My wife struggles with easy songs on medium in GH and harder songs on easy. My friends come over and play easy or medium depending on whether I am playing hard or expert. While its really no big deal once everything is unlocked it means I won't be able to fully enjoy BWT until I can sing and play on hard at the same time or until there is a patch for online BWT.

If all the songs can be unlocked on medium, then you aren't really missing anything. I think it will be plenty satisfying on medium if I'm only missing a few venues.

I would guess, and hope, that the number of fans you would need to unlock all that stuff is under the quarter-million cap for medium difficulty. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.
