I'll have to continue using the Xplorer? Eh!... IGN video review said the guitar was "mediocre"... =[

IGN has been unreliable lately.
I am hearing a lot of bad things about the guitar, though. I can't wait to actually play it.

It pisses me off that people hold ign's word as if their opinions are more valid than anyone elses. Why don't u use the controller for yourself before giving up on it and making ******ed threads, asking questions we can't answer yet, since a large percentage of the community here hasn't even played the demo yet...

I saw that video and have come to the conclusion that IGN can be very biased at some times (no offense to anyone)

I dig the new guitar. Really not a gargantuan change, I feel.

I like the fact that IGN didn't bother explaining what was bad about it.

I wouldn't get too worried about the guitar. Plenty of people (myself included) have used the new guitars without any issues. Personally, I like the feel of it at least as much as my original SG (and much more than my X-Plorer). The strumming was great, and the buttons were responsive.
It's only a few days until launch, you'll get to see for yourself soon enough. ;)

IGN aren't the only people who don't like the guitar. 1Up said something similar. And if you watch that OXM endless setlist thing, notice how they're using 2 Explorers instead of the Strats.
I'm going to reserve my own judgment about the guitar until I actually get to use it, but I respect and accept the opinions of IGN and all those other sites.

People said the same thing about the Xplorer, and few people have a problem with it anymore. It's a matter of feel. The guitar doesn't "suck", it's just different.
Regardless, IGN gave no reason to dislike the guitar (frets, strum, whammy, etc), so I immediately feel their opinion is discounted.

i really didnt like the guitar when i played the demo, the buttons felt very uncomfortable and the strum was very mushy and it just felt weird, i hope the final version is better

i agree with bakkster one this one.... im guessing its just because ign isnt used to it. im confused on how it says its difficult to switch back and forth between the strat and LP when i was doing it every song at best buy.

Perhaps they don't like the absence of clicking when they hit the strumbar? I was worried that I wouldn't like it, but I think it really adds something to the game. For once you can hear the game without the constant clacking of the controller.

From what I've played, I really like it. takes some getting used to but that's to be expected...
after prolonged use, I'm not sure.
but try forming your own opinion about it first before you decide to not use it, at least.

IGN also said that you don't start using the bass pedal until hard. Which is false btw.

I fell in love with the Strat the second I first used it...
Now that there are so many different guitars out there it's just going to depend on your own preference of which one you want to use...

How does it feel compared to the new Les Paul? I don't like the Les Paul, so is it similar to that?

Yeah I think its great, way better than the flawed les paul any ways.

From what I gather, it's really all based on personal preference.
I know it'll take some getting used to after using the GH controllers so much, but I really wanna give this Gibson a fair chance. The bigger size, the more authentic look, and the quieter strum bar really appeal to me. I'm going to try and grow to love it.

Okay, so they didn't give a reason..but that still doesn't change the fact that they don't like the guitar. They're not saying "The guitar sucks" just to say it sucks. That'd be stupid. They just didn't give their reasons, but there should be no doubt that they had reasons.
Honestly, I don't get why people think game reviewers are out to deceive people instead of giving their honest opinions.

Well I didn't like the X-plorer at first because there were many problems with it (defective buttons and whammy bar) and the feel was weird. But after playing with it for a long time, I can say that it was one of my favorite guitars ever even though the whammy bar is pretty shot lol. I like the Strat because of its new feel and look.

Dude, the Strat totally rocks! After I played the demo, I couldn't pick up the Xplorer any more. All the clickity-clackity noises, the neck was too short, the raised buttons hurt my fingers when I'm switching between chords!
The Strat is gonna be my new favorite guitar. When I have friends over, they're gonna have to settle for the Xplorer.

I haven't even touched the Strat and I don't know what all the complaints are about the X-plorer or the LP. I guess I just got two good guitars. In my house, I prefer the LP and the wife prefers the X-plorer. I will admit the X-plorer whammy bar sucks, but I never had problems with double strumming or bad buttons.
Regardless, I use all critics as guides, but rarely take it as gospel. There have been games that some critics have said were awful that I really enjoyed or games they said were great that I couldn't stand (like GH-III: That disk is going to become a coaster after Tuesday).
That being said, I'll hold my opinion of the Strat once I get mine.

I love Guitar Hero and all it's aberrations, Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero III. I am probably one of the older Guitar Hero players at 60 years . I read the IGN review and was also disturbed at the comments about the guitar. I have had 4 Xplorers, 2 for the 360, and 2 for the PS2. I have the Les Paul for the 360. Today, I was shopping at Best Buy and discovered they had it out so that I could play it. I played three songs. I loved the music, but I did not particularly like the guitar. it wasn't awful, it just wasn't as good to me as the others. The buttons seemed sort of flimsy. The colors are pretty indistinct, which doesn't matter to me but will to someone who is playing these kinds of games for the first time. The whammy bar also seemed to be a little wobbly. I have seen the comments about people not being able to use the PS3 Les Paul on Rock Band. Can anyone tell me if the 360 Les Paul will work on Rock Band. Of all the guitars, it is by far the best. I would miss the second 6 buttons, but I would rather have that guitar.

Eh, the Fender is alright. I dig the five way, but the neck feels pretty flimsy. It takes getting used to, and the weight is a nuisance, but that can be remedied with some lead tape.

It would have been fine had they just left it at, "we prefer the older controllers". If you're going to say the guitar is "mediocre" or "not as good other guitars" you pretty much have to support your opinion with reasons.
If they're going to put something in one of their reviews which is going to cause threads like this to happen they better explain why. I'm not trying to sound like a fan boy or anything, and I know we have video game reviews for this reason, but this could potentially really effect the sales of Rock Band, or at least the peripherals.
I think that it is their responsibility to point out the pros and cons of a game and analyze those pros and cons when they review it. It would be the same thing if they reviewed Halo or something else and said "the gameplay isn't any good" without telling us why.

I agree completely. Speaking as someone in the blogging industry, it's disappointing to see them make such a claim without posting their reasoning. I don't mind that they called it "mediocre," as they are entitled to their opinion. However, as a journalist, it is their duty to report what particular issues they experienced with the unit, so others can make a more informed decision.
It really doesn't take that much, either. If the neck is flimsy, and the buttons are unresponsive, just say so. That would be something worth getting a bit worked up over, and call for some further investigation. However, if they "just didn't like the feel," or prefer a clicky strumbar, these are merely matters of personal opinion.

Here is my honest opinion on the Rock Band Strat:
It isn't better, it isn't worse. It's different. It's not the silly-looking controllers that were in GH 1, 2, and 3. Once you get used to the Strat, it will be better than anything you've played before. It takes getting used to, but once you get used to it, you'll be amazed. It's different than the GH controller in the aspects that the buttons are closer together and the guitar itself is bigger. The reason people don't like the Strat is because they're so used to playing the Guitar Hero controllers, which is understandable. But once you pick up on the Strat, you won't be able to turn back. Thus bringing me to my new phrase:
"Once you go Strat, you don't go back."
