View Full Version : Not-so excited for Rock Band anymore?

It will be awesome. But there are a few things I, and many people realized. First, the guitar sections appear to be really easy for the most part, but I heard the hit window is TIGHTER than Guitar Hero II. Also, how many people actually have 4 people over their house very often?
This game appears to me that it may suck if you play by yourself - and I know I won't be playing with other people every time I play it. Meh! 3 more days...

There are a number of threads already going about the level of difficulty in the game. You are correct, the window is tighter, thus making the game more challenging by giving you a more realistic feeling, than by using insane note charts.
The game will be plenty of fun by yourself IMHO. While the game does promote playing with others, it will be just as fun playing by yourself. It's going to take some time for most people to master the drums, and there are a variety of different modes to keep someone entertained for a long time. Oh, and don't forget about the tons of DLC ;)
Don't get too stressed out man. It's only a few more days.

I was playing by myself and with one other person at Best Buy and had an absolute blast. I had no problems picking it up and enjoying it.

I never understood this sort of complaint.
Okay, so maybe the difficultly is easier that the GH games. So wouldn't you want the hit window to be tighter? Therefore adding the challenge of hitting the notes more accurately to make up for the simpler note charts?
I, for one, completely welcome these changes. I was never a GH master; I peaked about 3/4 through Hard. I don't care for insane note charts, I just crave the satisfaction of plowing through a video-gamed version of a song at a skill level I'm comfortable with (i.e. not out of my reach, but not too boring and unchallenging). If I was that obsessed with perfecting a song and challenging myself that much, I'd pick up a real guitar.
As for the tighter hit window (and allow me to geek out here for a second), by putting a more strict hit limit on when a note registers, I think this'll really help me learn more about rythym and timing. So if I ever do decide to pick up a real guitar (again), I just may be a little more prepared.
Just my thoughts.

1) Expert looks very hard.
2) I will have 4 people ready every single day.

For weeks I'd been hearing over and over that guitar wasn't that hard, and all the videos online seemed a bit easy (though there was no way to know what the difficulty was). However, when I went to go play it at BestBuy, I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, I haven't played GH2 in about a year or so, but it seemed fairly comparable to that. None of them seemed hard enough to ever fail, but I assumed there would be some on the disc that weren't on the demo, that might be fail-able on expert. The timing did seem a bit tighter, but that was a nice change.

Well good for you, but how does that solve my problem? Now if you don't mind, I'm going to cry by myself in the corner since I don't get to play BWT like some people :D

I somewhat regret signing into these forums. Think about it, if you hadn't signed up, you would have no idea about all these great things. Then when you got the game you're jaw would drop. I suppose we would have found out before the game anyway.

1. Last songs on guitar, like Green Grass and High Tides. Some of the other songs have harder solos.

It's already been made quite apparent that RB may not be as challenging as the note charts in GH. I guess that's alright, since this isn't GH. If that's what you want, play GH all day. RB retail is not all we get, there is going to be a crapload of DLC, which I'm guessing is going to eventually start catering to the guitar-centered people. These guys know how to make challenging guitar charts, look at the original GH's.
I honestly don't know how any music game lover can't be excited about RB. Especially if they were excited about GH's. Doesn't make much sense to me...

I have an observation. In GH2 when you play by yourself on a song, say Girlfriend, you actually play more than if you play Coop on the same song because most songs played solo in GH2 are a combination of the rhythm and lead.

I don't think I'd even be getting this game if I knew that my wife and kids wouldn't play, as well. My wife is terrible at GH, but should be able to handle the singing duties. My son can probably handle the drums on easy, but after we get to Medium. I will probably have to take over. I'm teaching him how to play drums, right now, so this should be a good aid. I'm trying to avoid playing drums, because it feels like "cheating" since I've been playing drums for 25 years.

My excitement has been drained a bit after that live feed, I mean, I basically got to see all the menus and such..and a lot of the note charts for some songs that I really like.
But I'm still very excited.
Just not bouncing off the walls anymore.

Im excited mainly for the drums.
In BWT i have my sister and her friends to play sometimes. It just all works out. I dont seem as excited as i was a couple months ago for some reason. Its weird that im not because im so worried every day about getting my preorder. I just cant wait to finally get that big box in my hands next tuesday and tear into it.

about difficulty:
you're using a demo version, the hard tier songs aren't going to be on there.
I would rather the notechart stay true to the song than have it made falsely just for difficulty. that's silly to say it's too easy. if you did learn to play a real guitar and you got good at it, most all songs would be "too easy". it's not about difficulty. it's about playing music.
then about people and some reviewers whining about playing the same songs over and over until more are unlocked..... if you're in a real band, you're going to do that. i plan on even doing it in the game.
Why?
like i have read elsewhere, if you play a song at a bigger venue and you do terrible at it, you'll lose fans. you should play it at a smaller venue so you won't lose as many fans.
If you do a live DVD recording and you do terrible, it will really mess things up for your band. so what are you going to do in the game (as well as real life) ? pick songs you know you can play really well.

my only problem left is how do i get groupies ?

when i first saw it at E3 i was pissed that i'd have to wait what seemed a millennium before i'd be able to play the game, now i'm 3 days away from playing it, I definitely am syched, but i don't know exactly what to expect.
Also, I'm going to go poor. Weekly downloads? Jeez.

my new job will keep me off campus (therefore lacking roommates to play BWT) i'm certainlynot as excited. we'll have two weeks to play that before I start the job. But i'll still be able to play the drums, sing/guitar and eventually drums/sing. DLC will also keep things quite fresh.

Well to be honest, my friends and myself lead lives, work, some have a girlfriend/wife (I have failed in this area as of late, damnit"), so we can't get together and play rock band a lot, maybe 3-4 hours a week.
I'm looking forward to this game in a big way, single player guitar looks fun, drums look great, singing + guitar looks amazing, DLC will keep the game fresh, online tug of war and point battle + coop, good chance of a patch for online BTW.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to this game in a big, big way.

I think visiting these forums too often sort of made me tired of Rock Band for a while, because I just didn't feel like waiting anymore, and didn't want to keep reading little tidbits here and there. Then I played it two weeks ago, and was excited for it all over again, and then with the recent leaked copies, I almost feel tired of it again. On the one hand, I want to see some of the videos, and read reviews, but on the other hand, it almost ruins some of the anticipation. Plus I knew I had to get through 3 midterms and 2 group projects before Tuesday afternoon rolls around, and I've still got one of each left to keep me occupied.

If you are worried about difficulty you have good reason, but don't fret after playing on numerous occasions I can say that it is still very fun regardless of challenge. Oh and I nearly forgot, there is a bit of challenge in some guitars parts, for example Green Grass and High Tides is about on par with Freebird's difficulty, which may not be the greatest of challenges, but with a tighter window and the addition of solo keys it will be fun to expirment.

I'm less optimistic after seeing pdtecrj's guitar only videos. It just looks too easy. Excluding Green Grass, which atleast looks challenging.
It'll be fun though with 4 players though.

Thank you. That was so well said I had to stop reading and give ya a quote. I play the drums in RL, I could say they are easy to play (hard to master :D) He is right. This game and HMX's vision is to for the average joe to be able to play music. Not be a great button masher. I want the songs to give me the feel of playing them. Is listening to a great song boring? No. Hell, I have more fun listening to a great song alone sometimes lol, This game will ensure listening to a great song alone WILL be fun. Interactive music at it's best. Battles-Keep 'em. 54,463,987 notes in a chart-keep 'em. The feeling of playing a song in a band is awesome, I expect the same feeling in this game.
Rock on HMX!

When did perceived notion that Difficulty = Fun begin to exist? GH3, for me, was rubbish towards the end even on Hard (I was able to complete GH2 on expert) because Neversoft made it hard for the sake of making it hard. For me, that was not fun. Watching the videos of only the guitar part of Rockband show me that HMX have a better grasp on actual note progression and fun balancing than Neversoft does. So while it may "look easier" at least to me it looks "more fun" to play. Not to mention we are only talking about the guitar part here.
As for BWT mode, I'm lucky enough to have a wife that is both a gamer and a former drummer, so I'm all set. Get my son to play bass and create a makeshift mic stand so I can play guitar and sing and we have the whole four piece. lol

I've watched some videos and seen charts and menus and such and... I'm still incredibly excited. Having played this at the tour with four people (as well as the watered-down demo stuff), I know the excitement for me is not just in the discovering new stuff, but the pure enjoyment of playing and the energy that comes from that.
To put it a different way, we recently picked up SingStar. Yes, I acknowledge that it's a poor excuse for the singing interface in RB, but it's a good practice tool. Thing is, even after having played some of the songs several times, it's still incredibly exciting to go at it. And last night, I took it to A friend's house who hadn't played it before and had the most fun yet as we did fantastic on some songs and so lousy on others we couldn't stop laughing.
I'm more excited now that I know more than I was before. Which is a shame because of that whole waiting for Christmas thing... But I'll live vicariously through the members here. :)
