How is the learning curve on the drums?
Is it possible to pick up and play on expert? hard?
Or should you start off on easy?

I picked up the game on thursday and have played for quite a bit. If you have any sort of rhythm or drumming experience, and have played previous GH scrolling-type rhythm games you should have no problem on Medium. No need to start on easy. I'm pretty proficient on Medium now, and can get 90%+ on almost every song. Now HARD is another story!!!!! I tried a few of my best songs on Hard and I got blown away! The jump from medium to hard is crazy.... much more use of the foot pedal and twice as many notes.

I've never played drums before, and I beat Tom Sawyer on expert on my first try. (minus the kick pedal of course)

Hahaha you are in for a surprise when you hook that pedal up. There is no comparison. Your brain is processing and entirely different beat repetition.

Its really easy to do the drums without the pedal, but with the pedal most people will be starting off on easy. If you play drums though, you can probably handle the harder difficulties.

yeah, without the bass pedal. With the bass pedal I guarentee those %'s drop to about 50% and not 98%

are you talking about the demo without the pedal? because you if 98% on expert just starting off the game then I am impressed.

Ah, so it helps that I've 5*'d all of GHII and GHIII (except Raining Blood and TTFAF) on expert, for note analysis and such?

I play drums in real life so the first time i played the demo i did hard. i thought i could probably do expert so i can get through every song on expert in the demo. But once i get the actual game i will go back to hard because of the kick pedal

Having decent rhythm helps but the drums and the guitar are different beasts. The pedal screws up your thought process unless you are a drummer. To put it in perspective try to play GH II and have a buddy on end tier medium of hard co-op and tap your buddies bass line with your foot while you are playing the guitar parts while you play expert on guitar and you have a rough idea of what Hard Drums is like at a mid-tier level.
