I've watched several videos, and I can barely tell the difference. The HOPOs look a little smaller, but they don't look much different. At least in Guitar Hero III the HOPOs were obviously different from the strumming notes.
Those who have actually played the game - how is it - as far as telling the difference?

Like getting comfortable with the Strat, after about 2-3 songs it becomes completely natural.

Yeah I got used to it relatively simple, but I think it all depends on what you're used to. I don't own GH or anything, so it was easier for me to adapt to.

On YouTube, they're impossible to see. When you're actually playing the game, they're pretty obvious. Just look for the notes that don't touch the vertical lines.

Its hard to tell which are hammer-ons in the YouTube videos, but they aren't great quality. The track has 4 lines going down vertically, to separate green from red, etc. The normal strumming notes stretch from line to line. The hammer-ons are a tad bit smaller and don't stretch from line to line. When you are playing, you'll easily be able to tell which ones you can and can not hammer-on/pull-off.

Yes, I think they are hard to see. I wish they would do something to make them more obvious -- especially in a long stream of notes on the harder songs it is difficult.

I think HMX got the HOPO's spot on. I didnt even know there was a difference with hopo's in GH1 and 2, i just figured em out by trial and error. The ones in GH3 look ugly and out of place, but the ones in RB look cool. Noticeably smaller and not weird at all. I like em.
