Type Of Music...

Okay, I am just trying to voice my opinion and see what other people think, so please don't flame me... I believe that this game should be more focused on modern-day rock/metal/punk rather than classic rock for one simple reason; both GH1, 2, and 'rock the 80's' are focused on classic rock, and I think that for now that should be enough to satisfy those that like that musical period best. I think that Rock Band should be focused on bands such as blink 182, sum 41, breaking benjamin, linkin park, slipknot, hawthorne heights, muse, snowpatrol, coldplay, yellowcard, relient k, alter bridge, lostprophets, +(44), angels and airwaves, boxcar racer, and others such as these. Now some people will say that these bands don't have good guitarists, drummers, or vocalists. Well, go to my list of bands and songs that I would like to see in the game, ( http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=796 )and then look them up on www.projectplaylist.com. For one thing, blink 182, +(44), and slipknot have two of the best drummers to date. There are also plenty of good guitarists and voices to be heard. One song in particular that I believe to be the best availible song to be played is Stockholm Syndrome by Muse. The guitar and drums in this are simply amazing, and it isn't something to be overlooked.

Now, I'm not saying that we should completly ignore classic rock, I like some myself. But I think that modern-day rock/metal/punk should play the majority of this game. Like I said earlier, theres a brand new guitar hero coming out for all you classic-rock fans out there, and whats better is that you won't have to pay for all the new instruments :D

slipknot doesnt really fall into any one genre,
their old stuff could be considered rapcore even, their relativly new stuff (iowa) follows more of a grindcore feel, and the newest stuff (vol. 3) gets moer into metal waters with guitar solos and stuff.

ok lemme translate my previous post.

as much as id like for this game to be a monumental success, im afraid that the inclusion of the musical stylings of such bands as Coldplay, and Snowpatrol, then this game is condemned to failure.
as popular as such bands are you must keep in mind the demographic that this game is shooting for. people such as myself, young, music loving individuals.
being a muscician myself i beleive that it is indeed safe to say that i have been through about every genre i can get my hands on.
from rap to classical, ive listened to it all. And yet i find the most energy and true talent in music of the metal variety.
now, allow me to take this time to express the reason why i see metal to be a superior music genre, as apposed to "alternative".
metal has been around since the late 60s, am i right?
and i do beleive it is safe to say that the initial forerunners in the genre still influence music todya correct?
well this brings me to my point. metal, TRUE metal, has stood the test of time, and the critisizm of the masses, and gess what my friend? its still here, as strong as ever.
there is a very devoted fanbase under the metal scene, and once your in your not gettin out.

but of course i cant explain this, for one reason....
you either get it or you dont. you can either take a metal album and listen to teh double kick bass, the guitar riffs, and the energy in the vocals and get empowered and feel the energy in the music or you cant.
theres alot more depth in metal than in alternative and while alternative bands may indeed be easy to listen to when first heard, but they are shallow and missing depth...
but if you take the time to get into metal, and if you dont give up on the genre just because you cant understand whats going on, does NOT mean that its a lesser valid form of music when compared to more mainstream fads like alternative.

It needs ALL KINDS of music, so not only ''METAL IS ROCKZORZ ONLY METAL!'' but also Alternative,just Rock, Punk and any other influences! dont just focus on one type of rock..
doesnt only make the game less fun, also makes less people play it...

I have to agree with fragpirate. The first time I listened to shadows fall I absolutely hated them. Same with any metal band. as I gradually listened to heavier and heavier stuff, then listened to them again, I was like, holy ****? how did I not like this band! of course their new albums are ass.. so nevermind.

same with The Red Chord. and Converge. seriously, go listen to converge's Jane Doe and tell me it's not a ****ing terrible album. but it grows on you. now it's one of my favorite albums, it displays raw technical skill mixed with emotion and just awesomeness.

you probably won't like this stuff much at first, but it does grow on you, which is true for most different and great music.

I heard this crazy rumor where the types of media used for modern video games can store information for multiple songs, offering variety in gameplay! It's difficult to believe, I know, but I'm backing this one 100%.

Moreso, I've heard that the intent to ship a ruffian to come hold a gun to your head and make you play every song you dislike repeatedly has been back-burnered due to concerns with shipping weight.

NO! I don't think I've been against any idea on these boards more than I am with this one. Narrowing down the songs in the game to fit just newer popular music would be the worst thing Harmonix could ever do... and that's why they will never do it. I mean, they've already released 4 song titles... How many of them fit the profile?

The game should have music from all rock genres across all era's of music. It's not just about playing the songs you like now as a fad, but expanding your musical horizon and being introduced to music you would never listen to normal. That's one of the thing i love most about GH 1 and 2.

lol I just looked all of the bands up to see what they were catagorized under, and they are all (except snow patrol) listed under either punk/rock/hardcore/ or metal, but some of them are also listed as alternative ALONG WITH punk/rock/hardcore/ or metal.

Lad, lad, lad. *shakes head* I can only pray you are not too far gone. First off, some of the music you listed is incredibly inappropriate for Rock Band (seriously, Coldplay?! Snow Patrol!!?). Secondly, both Guitar Hero I and II had a rather diverse soundtrack. Sure, there were a good bit of the classics, but I seem to recall a lot of stuff from the 90's, as well.

If Rock Band did away with classics, I would be extremely upset as would many others. So, let's just continue to follow the diversity path.

I guess you're right about the new Guitar Hero III coming out, but I think that there should still be classic rock in the mix. The point of the game is to evoke the feeling of being in a band I guess, so why not see what it's like playing like an older band. If you want to have a modern band feel, you could theoretically join a real band, but I'm afraid the days of the Rolling Stones and Allman Brothers are mostly gone for good.
