Hey everybody i work at the local Eb Games/Gamestop and we recieved our rock band special editions and we also recieved an email from EA. " Anybody Known To Break The street Date would be fired immediatley in accordance with a deal with gamestop/ebgames and also anyone playing the game online before the street date would have their XBL/PSN Shut Down Until the 20th. Just spreading the word! It may just be to not have people playing the game but i thought if it was true you all should know!

How do they know what your XBL/PSN is?
EDIT: Never mind. I thought Gamestop, but I guess EA means they will disable online play until the 20th.

They cant ban the consumer for the shop breaking the rules, i also think its illegal to do such thing, in situations where the consumer might not know.

This is BS because I have a few people on my friendslist who have been playing Rock Band for the past few days and they are having no trouble. Microsoft isn't going to ban people who get the game early. They didn't do it for Halo 3, they aren't going to do it for Rock Band.

Wow EA can't get the game to Canada on time, but they try to scare the retailers and consumers....... Pfff I would love to tell EA where they can shove it. After the massive botch of a release.

Completely Not made up it was an email that we had to all be briefed on... It was probably just like the "shortage" announcement they are doing it to have things the way they want them

They're not going to ban anyone. First off.. if you legally obtained a copy of the product by purchasing it, you did nothing wrong. The store that sold it violated contractual obigations as a retailer to not break street dates. They get fined.
Second, I don't think that there's anything in the user agreement that you agreed to when signing up for XBL that states that you won't play games prior to street dates for those titles. If they ban you for something like that without a clause in the user agreement covering them, they are liable for lawsuit.
Third. There are over 200 bands registered as of last night. Don't think that with as many people playing the game right now they are going to ban people for any period of time. More than likely, the staff that would be banning people wouldn't do so until Monday, and they wouldn't do that for just one day. they would ban you permanantly, unless there was such cause you could prove a case to have a ban revoked.
If you have the game no, even if you didn't log into live, the info that you've played the game would pop up when you first logged in (I think). No sense in scaring people.
Btw... i've worked as manager for both EB/Gamestop stores... that company likes to threaten it's employees via email on a constant basis.

While I doubt anyone is going to get temporary bans (it's the holidays, staffing is down), there is part of your XBL agreement that they can terminate your account for ANY reason, even those not specified. It's a service from a private party and they control it how they see fit.
As for a lawsuit, you would have to prove damages from not getting access to XBL for a couple days. Good luck on finding a lawyer for that case, as there are no monetary damages. Maybe emotional, but how much of crying over not being able to play Rock Band early worth? (Ok, maybe there is some punitive value there! ;) )

see, now that makes sense. there's a clause in there to cover them in general. Ea can't force accounts to be banned though. Ms would have to make that final decision as it's their service.
I suppose on the PS3, they could probably do something since I think EA controls the servers that RB would run through.
