big time metal head here.
my 2 all time favorite bands are Iron Maiden and Carcass.
Here'shalf of my Carcass collection :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v365/Jerry_Heaven/carcass.jpg

but yea man, looooong time metal head and grew up in the Bay Area, listening to metal since i was super young. My brother is about 12 years older than i am so i was always listening to what he was, and back then Iron Maiden is what started it for me.

die hard thrash metal addict, bands like Vio-Lence, Forbidden, Testament, Atrophy, Artillery, Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, Slayer, Megadeth, Exodus, Dark Angel, etc. is still some of the most hard fist banging bands ever. No other genre or movement will ever come close to what Thrash brought.

not to mention early grindcore/death metal acts like Carcass, Entombed/Nihilst, Dismember, Master, Asphyx, Pestilence, Atheist, Unleashed, Carnage, Death, Possessed, Terrorizer, old Napalm Death etc...

lately though i've been shifting towards more of the shoegazing type stuff like Jesu, Pelican, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Isis-mainly the entire Hydra Head Records line up, hahah

UP THE IRONS!

We need more good metal. There is way too much garbage that is called music today. I pretty much lost fate in metal after the big 4 thrash metal bands started selling out/sucking.

I want to see Iron Maiden live so bad, but it seems they only want to tour in Europe.

If you like old metal, but you want to listen to some new music I would suggest these bands:

-Valient Thorr

-Lordi

-Priestess (Lay Down- I played this song in guitar hero and it introduced me to the band)

Why the hell woukld the "big 4" thrash bands selling out make anyone lose faith in Metal? Stil tons and tons of damn good metal bands, bands way better than the big 4

Also, Iron Maiden is touring America next year.

Well I just stopped liking most of the new metal. I dont really like any of the lots of double bass and screaming metal. Its just my opinnion, but metal went to **** after like 1992. Thats just my opinnion and Im sure you disagree, but thats how I feel about metal.

Now im going to go try to research that maiden tour.

I'm a fan of Falconer, Bal-Sagoth, Korpiklaani, The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Andromeda, Elvenking, Orphaned Land, At Vance, Hibria, Demolition Hammer and Ulysses Siren if that counts as die-hard.

Maiden is still my favorite metal band of choice. I also dig Helloween (the poor man's Maiden?). Lately I've been all up to my armpits in Rhapsody. I love that epic sound! Also bustin out the ManOwaR on occasion. One band that's gotten my attention lately is Finntroll. I love the sound these guys have, who'da thought an accordion could sound metal. (This is no dis on Weird Al, mind you!)

I saw Maiden the year they toured on Ozzfest. 2005, maybe? Regardless of the year they were downright amazing. It was so awesome between them and Ozzy with the rest of Sabbath brought out a lot of the older people to Ozzfest, which I heard is usually attended by younger people like me.

It was my first and last Ozzfest to this date.

Lots of Maiden fans in these forums and glad to see HMX added them to the setlist! Killers is what got me hooked on to metal back in the 80's. I still listen to the classics (King Diamond, Slayer, Megadeth, etc) but have really gotten into death & black metal over the last 5 years. Would be cool to see some technical death metal bands (Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse) added to the setlist ;)

Dude, saying Helloween is the poor man's Iron maiden is a sacrilege. They never tried to be Maiden. What are you saying?

You guys want some metal Ive discovered on myspace?

Power metal: Armory, Powerwolf, Magic Kingdom

traditional metal: RAM, Heavy Metal Perse (its sung in finnish, but who cares?)

Melodic metal: Empire, Axxis, Road to Ruin (side proyect of Lion's Share members)

REAL thrash metal : Demolition, Warbringer, Evile, Merciless Death, Hexen, Savage Messiah

For those of you that cant get enough of the heavy 70s rock: Upwards of Endtime

Stoner: Eldemur Krimm (very Sabbath like. really great tunes)

All these bands are ****ing great and they need support!

Denis Vlachiotis is a shredder you gotta hear!

BTW, Maiden is coming to my country in March :) I still cant believe it.

To say "Metal" is a very very very vague usage because there is MANY different types of metal (i.e. Heavy, Death, Grindcore, Thrash, Speed, Black, Etc.) and people who say "old school metal" need to check their dates because most types of metal, especially the aforementioned save Grindcore, have been around for quite some time.

Shut up. If the meaning of "old school metal" escapes you, then you are a poser.

Metal is metal. Unlike black metallers, the true, shall we say, "nirvanic" metalhead embraces all.

All but industrial, metal core, nu metal, and grindcore. None is Metal. Why? The metal riff is completely lost in simplistic "sound breeding", creating horrendous mongrels that only achieve in sounding like crap.

Carcass vinyls...::drools::

What's the difference between the copies of Symphonies of Sickness? I know Necroticism's been reissued a billion times, sometimes with the Tools of the Trade, sometimes without. Is it just bonus tracks you can find on Wake Up and Smell the Carcass, or was there a remastering, or are they legitimate extra songs you can't find elsewhere?

Math has never been my forte'. I could never understand how numbers would just magically turn into other numbers. Keep calling me names though, I'm a fairly decent person but I'm no saint, eventually you'll come up with something derogatory AND accurate. I have faith.

Venom

Anyone listen to any of those guys? I'm more into older black metal like Venom or Hellhammer, but any suggestions for me are welcome.

The Black
Church Bizarre
Grand Belial's Key

I'd love to see more Maiden DLC...definitely would enjoy some Megadeth, especially some of their earlier/overlooked stuff.

Testament would be great-Practice What You Preach (both the single and the album) REALLY got me into thrash.

And no love for Anthrax yet? Pretty much everything from Persistence of Time and prior was pure genius in a thrash metal way.

Slayer would be nice, though definitely the earlier stuff. I'm not such a fan of anything Divine Intervention or later. They have a good tune here and there in the modern day, but have lost their creative edge IMHO.

WTFH metalcore has some of the best muscians in history HELLO Chris Adler and the rest of lamb of god to even put metal core in the same group as nu metal is beyond sacrilege. you just can't compare metal(metalcore) and a completely new genre and culture(nu metal).

and yes some people are very narrow minded but that is inevitable. i personally like all forms of music (most rap and all country is not music). yes even classical. i'm a musician so i play almost anything but metal is my center and soul not to mention its so fun to play.

Just because country sucks doesnt mean it doesnt qualify as music. it just doesnt qualify as good.

And metalcore sucks. I cant friggin stand it for a second! Its not TRUE METAL!

i'll give you that metalcore isn't metal by your standards because i kinda agree that the term metal is too broad and too flexible they need a definite it is or isn't but in my opinion its metal just a more musical than head banger metal

also the other metal is amazing

and country is technically 'music' it just is too ****ty to be music in my opinion

I am still trying to figure out how Helloween is the poor man's iron Maiden that makes no sense. I love them both but clearly very different styles. I like to follow the Power Metal path more so. If anybody liked Helloween in the 80's and hasn't checked out Gamma Ray you are missing out. Kai Hansen the ex guitar player from Helloween is the main man in Gamma Ray and they kick serious ass. Pick up almost any CD and you won't disappointed the later stuff is actually better once he gets back on vocals in my opinion. Love the guitar solos and riffs they do.

I listen to any music that I like, but any kind of metal is a full half of my musical yin-yang. While the other half could only be described as "The rest".

I would love for Rock Band :

Overkill - Spiritual Void
Skid Row - Slave To The Grind
Pantera - Walk and I'm Broken
Meshuggah - Stengah

Does anyone else besides me think that SOAD would be great for Rock Band? Take one of their songs like Spiders, it's not the heaviest but it has some great guitar parts, amazing vocals, and awesome drums. Many of their songs are different and that it what I like about them, I think that it would be great if they released some of their stuff for Rock Band. Not just because I like them but because in many of their songs they have great drum, guitar, and vocals.

Besides that I wouldn't mind seeing some more Metallica, Megadeth wouldn't be too bad, Breaking Benjamin would be cool, and you can't go wrong with Disturbed.
