View Full Version : Guitar/Drum Breaking Worries

Hey all,

So I'm all types of excited for Rock Band, have been for months and months. I've been going back to Best Buy again and again to play it, although I wasn't a big fan of the guitar. It might have been because it wasn't working properly at the time, although overall it felt a little cheap. More recently the guitar at the local Best Buy completely broke, the strum bar doesn't work at all anymore. So everyone's been mainly playing the drums, and now one of the drum pads has a huge hole in it.

From what I've been reading and everyone I've talked to, it seems the guitar gets broken fairly easily. And sure, it is a demo in a store, and tons of kids and general idiots have probably been pounding on it. But directly next to the Rock Band demo is a Guitar Hero demo, and that guitar has been there longer and still works perfectly. I still have my original GH controllers from GH1, and they work fine, so it's not really an issue of misuse, just of quality.

Does anyone know if anything has been said about replacement parts for the drums? Are the pads able to be replaced/removed at all? I'm definitely getting the game either way, I can't wait. But it'd be nice to know that I don't have to buy a new drum set in 6 months. :)

One word for the guitar "breaking" It's a pre-production model, the ones they will sale are much more sturdy, and durable. As for the Drums, The drum pad (top section) is an entire piece, you can take it off to store or whatever, so I asume you will be able to get a replacment head for the drums. And if your worried about your drums getting holes in them after the first week or whatever, Head out to your local Samash or Guitar Center and pick up som rubber tipped drum sticks. Or any drum stick that is aimed for use with practice pads, or electric drum pads.

Axel according to most who have the game already the guitar is still doing the same stuff as the demo ones, but one of the HMX guys said it would be fixed via patch on tuesday when the game launches?

My question is what kind of warranty will there be? And are they going to sell just the pads, or just the kick pedal.

we have no idea yet, we do know there is a thing in the box saying the instruments have a 60 day warranty.

They will replace the instruments up to 60 days I believe.

Just bear in mind a few things, and I know this has probably been said and you mentioned some of it, the equipment at the demo stations is pre production equipment. And also, the sheer amount of people using it. Normally you won't be using it as much and as variably (Does that make sense? if it doesn't I mean that the drums at Best Buy have to endure little kids tapping on it to crazy idiots actually TRYING to punch holes in the pads) as the ones at Best Buy get used.

The drums seem like they will last to me. The guitar on the other hand seems made of very cheap crappy plastic and like it could fall apart of easily be snapped in half. I could twist the entire neck without even trying.

Yes, but you have to consider the potential life span of this game. With all the DLC promised, how long are you going to play this game? I know I'm planning on playing it for a very very very long time. If I could play GH for months and months, how will it be with three instruments at my disposal. And how long will the drums last if you are playing atleast 4 times a week for a year?

I really think this game is good, but they didn't put that much time into production of the instruments and testing.

So big hopes they do not have to take your guitar back. It may take ages before they send you an improved one. hope it doesn't brake. I am waitng for the europe release so much hope it isn'tt next year:(

I have finally just accepted 3 things:

#1 - the guitar will break. Red Octane and Harmonix was a perfect relationship, but like all good things it came to an end. And now Red Octane is stuck with a terrible (my opinion!) game, and Harmonix is stuck with sub-par guitars. Ive only played broken strats, and in my mind I'm fairly sure that my guitar will end up like Best Buys in time. I believe they sent out pre-production models, but I also believe that pre-production models were pretty close to the final ones, and my guitar may last a little longer, but will die.

#2 - my drums will break in time. At some point I'll either do something stupid, or I'll snap the kick pedal. It seems like HMX tested the drums MUCH more than the guitars, and rightfully so, but I'm sure eventually something will happen. We're hitting it with wooden sticks.

#3 - I have never seen a company more devoted to its fans than HMX. Ive never seen a company that I really feel is as GENUINE as HMX. Ive never ever seen a company take so much interest and pride in thier products. HMX will fix whats broken as quick as they can. I bet "Rock Band 2" will ship with new equipment (that you can choose NOT to purchase if you just want the disc), but equipment thats improved based on the feedback they get from US. I'd even bet that a whole line of Fenders (telecaster PLEASE!) will ship BEFORE RB2 does, each one a little stronger and more improved. I have total faith that they're selling Rock Band as a PLATFORM, and they'll do everything they can to make me be able to play my songs forever.
