Its a simple equation really. I have one of the first batch of 360s and I payed the price. I have about a 1 month sentence to 360less time. I hope M$ support comes through or there will be hell to pay.

has anyone had experience with the repair center? good or bad?

i've had experience with them and it took about 3 weeks for the entire process. i guess i'm one of the lucky ones as i've heard it takes up to 6 weeks on occasion. microsoft definitely makes the process as easy as possible...and when the repair's done, you'll get a free month of xbox live. it won't be the worst thing you've ever had to go through but, i do feel your pain man.

I have read all sorts of horror stories on the interweb about Xbox service, but my last experience was positive. Now admittedly, that xbox died as well, and now I'm waiting for my third. But regardless, last time it was a 3 week turnaround so *shrug*

Thats a real bummer man. :-(

Lately, it seems like you either have to pay through the nose for a next-gen system (PS3), or you have to gamble with getting shoddy hardware (Xbox 360).

Send it in for repair ASAP so that you can play on your Christmas break

Being a techy doesn't enable you to fix custom hardware, maybe if you were an E.C.E. Besides, opening the case voids the warranty so in the end it's not worth it. You could open it up and realize the CPU is toast, but then what? It's not like you could just order a new cpu from MS. Anyhow, you should get a nice new 360 with the better cores and cooling systems.

I sent my 360 in once, and it was fast and easy. Though I did it before they started giving out the free live cards...

If you are without your system for a month all they are giving you is the month of XBL you already paid for but couldn't use because your system was in the shop.

Assuming, of course, that you had an active XBL account when your system bricked.

Everyone says that the PS3 is really really expensive... Look at the prices and compare them with the 360's. Of course you will see that the 360 is a little cheaper and thats exactly what MS is wanting you to do. You dont realize is that to have the same features as the PS3 you need to pay more. If you took the time to add it up its about the same thing as a PS3. MS makes the system lower and makes its accessories higher, like wireless controllers and the chargeable pack for the controller, and even xbox live. So you buy an xbox thinking that you gotta good deal, when to match up with the PS3 your paying the same. Ask a lot of people with both systems. Im not bashin the 360, I think its a great system too. But if you take the time and add up the cost of each thing for the 360 to equal the PS3 and its just as much. And with PS3 you get blu-ray. Ive had my PS3 since launch and I havent had a single problem with it, and its almost in constant use because I have to share it with 3 other people.

No matter how you slice it.... $500 for a console is expensive. I could get a whoop-ass computer for the same price that does a lot more than play overpriced movies (blu-ray) or $60-a-pop video games.

The only reason I have a PS3 (60 GB) is because I found a used one on sale for $320 that came with 3 games.

Its a LOT of cash to drop on system that you still have to buy games for.

Yeah, because the extra $50 you spend on the PS3 really breaks the bank. Seriously though, I fear keeping my 360 on for extended multiplayer sessions, and have already had a RRoD. And yet my PS3 stays on for days folding at full capacity, and haven't heard a word of complaint.

This is actually factoring into my decision for which console version to get. I want the 360 online community, but don't want to be unable to play for even a day, should my 360 fail again.

This has been my constant battle for the last 2 months.. I will be buying a next gen within the next few months...

Specs I need: wireless and RB capable.

360: $350 (Pro) + 100 (wireless) + 60 (Live)=510
PS3: $400. Free wireless, free online.

Clearly the 360 has the better online, but is it worth the extra $110 over bluray?

This is my opinion, I like both systems, etc, etc.
Yes, right now XBL is better, the most major thing for me is no in game XMB, we'll get that soon enough, Home will be a major thing for online as well.

Some of the biggest hits PS3 has taken are
1. it's expensive, not true any more. (Free online, Free Wireless, Blu-ray,) all for $399.99, it's a great deal.
2. PSN sucks - Soon enough people will be in here saying "there's a reason it's free" Yeah, only reason is competition, the PSN is great, been playing for a very long time and a good number of online games and there is no lag, the PSN is very good and getting better all the time.

Both systems are very good, right now xbox has a few more of the great games, 2007 was the year for 360, 2008 is for PS3 (Really PS3 has one amazing 2008 lineup) Guess it comes down to what you want, what the majority of your friends play assuming you want to play online, etc, etc.

I think it is based on play style. I just don't like PS type games (Jakk and Daxter, Heavenly Sword). I like Halo and Assassin's Creed (which might be hypocrtical about the whole Heavenly Sword thing. One appealed to me and one didn't.) It comes down to which exclusive titles you absolutely have to have. Resistance didn't reach out to me and all the other games were dual platform, so I bought a 360

I'm only getting this next gen console exclusively for RB. I'm not much of a console player. Yes PS3 woudl be the better option if that is the case as it is cheaper BUT... more people are 360. Hense my delimia.

Also true, that also plays a factor into it.
Reason I got the PS3 was for games like Uncharted, Final Fantasy XIII, MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, White Knight story and I just love the PlayStation brand. I won a free Xbox elite with 10 games and that's why I have the 360, I want to play Mass Effect, Halo 3, Gears of War, Blue Dragon, etc, etc. When it came down to it though I was only willing to buy the PS3.

Different strokes for different folks.

Ps, sucks about your 360, I hope you get it back soon.

Oh, it's only for RB, if you have more friends/people you want to play with that own 360 then I'd spend the extra $100 bucks on the 360, that's what it all comes down to and seems to be what you're saying.

If my 360 has the audacity to red ring on me tomorrow, I'll leap right up and get on the bus back to Gamestop and pick up another one. I'd call "M$" and have them repair the RR one, then sell it on Ebay. I WILL NOT STAND FOR THE RED RING OF DOOM TO GET IN THE WAY OF MY ROCK BAND ENJOYMENT TOMORROW!!!!! Also for Mass Effect, because that game will rock too.

I'm on 360 #5. Getting one and two fixed not so much of a problem. Number 3 however was the most absolute rediculous pile of BS I've ever encounterd,I did eventually get it fixed after a lot of yelling and threatening to report them. Number 4 went fine and I was sent a one month Gold subscription card even though I have silver. Haven't even used it yet.

I think PSN online is better. I've only run into one person that was an ass and only 1/10 games had any lag. Live however, when using trials,I can't even count the number of people that were asses on that and the little kids too and then the ultimate...the asses that think the little kids are girls and start rudely hitting on them (wich is actually pretty funny). 9/14 games had lag and there were 4 games I couldn't find anyone to play, not being counted in the 14 mentioned there of course.

Add me to the list. About a week and a half ago I got the red lights. I get my box to ship it off but there was no packaging slip. So I wasted my time before between my two jobs to call them. They were friendly of course (too friendly) when I needed to get off the phone and go to work.

I was told that I shouldn't send it myself (was gonna overnight it) since they wouldn't have a tracking number and it really did increase the chance of it getting lost. My luck, it would have.

So now I'm waiting on them to send me another box, just because they didn't include the pre-paid return label. Then I'll have to wait for it to get ther. Then I'll have to wait for it to get fixed. Then I'll have to wait for it to be returned. Then, I'll find out if they actually fixed it or if I still have the ring of death.

And rockband sits quietly packaged in my closet. At least I can read the instruction manual. woo frickin' hoo.

Wow, this thread actually made me sign up to give my two cents.......All i gottta say is this whole thread is why I bought a ps3 and not an xbox. Crappy hardware? no thanks. As has been said, ps3 is by far the better deal when you factor all the extras microsoft nickel and dimes you for (wifi, online access, their ****ty point system...).
With that said, my rockband on ps3 has performed flawlessly. If your worried about not enough people online, don't worry, there are plenty. Besides that, offline multiplayer is by far the king in this game. I got my uncle in law, from vietnam, about 50 years old, barley speaks english, playing this game tonight. needless to say he was loving it.
I feel your pain on the xbox. I eel waiting a little longer to get a second compatible guitar is a small price to pay so i can avoid red rings of death (imagine one happening in the middle of a major rock band party? ). That ends my tirade...happy rocking fellow rock stars!

Mine fried on halloween and i will be getting it back on tuesday. Missed rockband, mass effect, COD 4, assassins creed. Then to top it off, i was playing my strat on the pc with frets on fire with some GHIII song imported, and my strat broke. And the funny part that almost over rules the anger. Is that both my system and my strat dies playing Through fire and flames by dragon force on GHIII. Damn you activition lol. The customer support over all isent bad but it just takes so long. Though getting them to listen is hard, their ideots really.

Buy a loaner system at Costco and return it when you're done getting your console repaired. Costco's return policy is until "satisfaction," as long as you return everything in the original packaging. And you get a full refund, not store credit.

I'm not sure about Wal-Mart, but I believe they have an equally good return policy.
