So I picked up a pair of wool fingerless gloves today. It's gettin' chilly out, and as a cigarette smoker, it made sense. Flavor Country gets cold in the wintertime...

But ANYWAY. I thought to myself "Self, maybe these would come in handy for Rock Band!"

I dunno how it'll work in practice, but in my head, it seems to make sense. Hear me out. During those particularly tricky solos, one might benefit from sliding down the neck and wailing on the solo buttons. Trouble is, while playing, your hand could get so clammy that the transition ain't exactly that smooth. With a fingerless glove, you've got that wool surface to gliiide down the neck, and obviously you've got your fingers at the ready, since they're fingerless gloves and all.

What do you think?

I did it to try to beat Jordan...

Failed at the break. D:

The ones I used I cut and they were very thick wool. Slid so fast...

I've been using baby powder on my left hand for about 8 months now that I've been play GH and it has helped tremendously with sliding around.

I read an article a while back about a bassist who uses silk gloves to play. He said the give him less resistance. I'd think wool gloves would push your fingers too far apart to use the solo frets easily.

Seems like a wool glove would make your hands rather hot/sweaty during some of the more intense songs. Maybe that's just me but I wouldn't my hands to feel like they were on fire while playing. Also, as previously mentioned, the thickness of the glove may impede your ability to play accurately.

Actually, you might also want to consider using those gloves on another instrument.

The drums.

I used to play a lot of Drum Mania back in the day (though where I lived at the time, it was called Percussion Freaks) and one of the things I noticed about extended plays is that if you're the type that sweats, or are simply playing in a warm, humid environment, that moistness that develops on your hands can actually develop some friction between the skin of your palm and the drumstick. The end result, if you're not careful, is that the constant rubbing motion as swing the sticks up and down can eventually start tearing bits of skin off your palm. This is EXTREMELY annoying. You won't be howling in agony, but it hurts enough to notice it. Fingerless gloves will remedy this.

there was an ole bassist.. i forget who.. i think he may have been and older black fella. he was toted as one of the better bass player to grace our planet. southern guy. i think he played blues or jazz.. just some info for people to try and find him..

anyway.. he used to get and order of fried chicken before every set. not only for his pregame meal. but because the grease on the chicken helped him slide all over the neck. he would keep a few pieces back stage to re-grease through out the show.

i love little musical tid bits like that. the older blues guys have some amazing rituals to aid in their playing. usually they get them as a result of being black men who were around in the bad times in the dirty south. thus they grew up poor in small towns or ghettos and had to find some interesting ways to play. some of the stories are amazing.

anyway...

back in gh1 days.. i was having trouble with bark at the moon and a lack of friction.. so i had to ask my friend g/f who was living with us at the time for some.. "sensual" lube. lol. worked great for about a minute.. but as i knew it would eventually gunk up. it dries out real quick. dont suggest using it for gh or rb. lol. thats my story.

p.s. - as a bass player. i used the fried chicken/greasy food trick every time after i heard that story. it works amazing on RL guitars/basses. it's a bit rough on the strings though. gotta change em often. or they start corroding due to the oils from the chicken and your skin. a string cleaner/wax would probably extend their life quite a bit though. the necks stayed nice and fast though. if they gunked up slap on some more grease!

They are gloves for people with no fingers. It's more of a specialty item for kids who played with firecrackers who want to keep their stumps warm.

Nice!
But yeah, and if you play in public it looks very punk rock!
