I had never really bought into all the hype around the GH series and just marked it off as a simple fad. I just recently played the games for the first time and I'm in love now.
I heard bad things about the third one so I decided to buy this instead, but it will take me ages to save up $200.
My question is: Will the game be fun if I just buy a GH3 controller and the RB disc until I have the money for the drums and microphone ( like is there a career for only guitar similar to the GH career?)
Thanks for any help in advance.

It might be as fun as a GH game, but the true fun is in the band experience. You would have more fun buying the bundle if you have a couple of buddies that come over and play every once in awhile. Further, the drums are the can't miss part of this game.

if your going to play it alone for just the guitar its not worth it, its alot more expensive to buy all the instruments seperate as well and its 169.99 for the bundle not 200.

The price thing is a good point- you probably will get a noticeable discount for buying the bundle.
However- I think the guitar part of Rock Band is IDEAL for someone who is basically just getting into the Guitar Hero-type games. The songs focus on being fun rather than super difficult and if you do get a GH3 guitar and the game now, you really only have to buy the drums later, and possibly a Mic or XBox Live headset adapter if you want to sing.
There is a career in the game for guitar only (likewise for drums and mic) which is basically ideal to what you will find in any of the Guitar Hero games.

I'm pretty sure that the game's only coming with the complete bundle. nothing comes seperate.
well, until mid-next year at least.
so if you do buy it, you've got the entire kit and the entire kit only.
and like the other guy up there said, the drums are a must!

You can buy the game alone as well on release day

Yeah theres really nothing terrible about GH3. If you only want to focus on guitar stuff for now, just pick the game that has songs that you like the most. But if you are going to be strapped for cash and are sure that you want the drums and/or singing experience later on, then go for Rock Band even if you just get the game an a GH3 guitar.
You WILL be able to buy the game alone on Tuesday, but the instruments won't be available separately until next year.

I'll be picking up GH3 eventually just for the guitar so I can have 2 guitars for RB, I do like a lot of the music in GH3 as well and im a fan of difficult note charts even if they are just kinda wacky.

I would give this advice to any friend who was interested.
If you are new to music games meaning you have not played Guitar Hero at all, and can only afford to pay $100 bucks or so and you have a 360. Get Rock Band game disk and an explorer from amazon. THat will set you back about $110 60 for Rock band 50 for the guitar.
Reasons
1) While Rock band's solo guitar stuff is not as intense as ghIII's note charts, the more sane note charts of Rock band will make it easier for beginners.
2) Rock band has cheaper downloads
3) Rock band can expand after you have mastered the guitar. You can buy a drum set separately in January (supposedly).
PS. I don't think you can buy a GHIII guitar by itself. I only see one for the PS2.
