For some reason my 360 will not read the disc. It's a new disk with no scratches. I can get to like the main menu or sometimes as far as an actual song. It keeps giving me a can't read error. It's wierd though, because it gives me the error in different placeses.

Either return the disk for a replacement where you bought it (if that is the store's policy), or you can contact EA for a replacement disk.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but unreadable disc errors on brand new discs USUALLY(but not all the time) are a precursor to your console going all RROD on you.
I'd try to exchange the game for a different disc, and if it still does it on a different disc, then I'd prepare for the worst.
I'm on my fifth 360 now and two of them started the disc unreadable(even though the disc was perfectly fine and new) a few months before they went to the big microchip in the sky.

Well it should just die already then, so i can stop wondering. because right now its only rock band 2 with the problem, i played the orange box for well over 5 hours and not a problem.
What i also noticed is during some songs the game stops spinning the sytem gets quiet. then when it trys to spin again it freezes a bit. just the last time resulting in a unreadable disc error.

I keep having the same problem. The only game that freezes is RB2. I can play any other game and my console works fine. Took my disc back and exchanged it for a new one and I still have the problem.

Just got done playing rock band 1 for over a hour had no freezeing or disc errors, seems like just a RB2 problem.

Although I was getting the error with my RB 1 disc which has seen some wear and tear but most other games were playing fine. Which happened almost 2 weeks ago. But I was able to play RB 2 since Sunday without any problems and lo and behold last night, RROD.

It should just die then so i can get it fix, i have already repaired it once like 6 months ago. it wouldn't be a big deal, it should just die faster if its going too.

While I appreciate the frustration with getting Rock Band to run on your PS2, I think that creating one thread or posting in one of the others is a more than reasonable solution. There's no reason to bump threads that have been inactive for 9 months, and it's normally a ban worthy offense (we call it necro bumping).
If you continue to bump threads that have been inactive for over two months without contributing anything more substantial than a link to an online petition then those threads will be closed and your account will be banned.
The issue with playing RB on the PS2 has been addressed many times over the last year, and a quick scan of the forums, my post history, or Sony's website should have yielded several results. Some PS2s may have a difficult time reading the Rock Band disc because the RB disc is written with dual layered technology. This is not something that is unique to Rock Band, and due to the age of some PS2s they may struggle to read any dual layered disc.
Sony has offered a refurbishing service in the past and you can contact their customer support for more information. This is not an issue with Rock Band, as evidenced by the fact that there are tens of thousands of PS2s that can run Rock Band without difficulty (I happen to play Rock Band on a 4 year old PS2 and have never had a problem). If you have any additional questions you can contact Sony for more information on upgrading the lens in your PS2.
