i tried posting this in the other forum but it got more onto a discussion of the price and release of the cymbals. i want to know if the cymbals will work CORRECTLY if a player plays lefty. b/c our crash is the red pad, and there is not even a port for that pad. so are we not going to be able to take full advantage of the cymbals, or will this somehow be corrected to work for us?

I hope we lefty drummers are not left out in the cold with this issue. I've been playing real drums as a lefty for 6 years and I'm not changing now. The Ion also does not have a red cymbal so I wonder how that will work for lefties as well?

i know, i was going to order the Ion until i saw a close up that only had one red port, not 2 like the rest of the colors. so are neither the ion or the madcatz cymbals going to work for lefties, i wish someone from HMX would shed some light on the subject...

I'm lefty as well, and I'm really hoping for lefty friendly cymbals!

maybe we should email madcatz, or HMX, i was hoping someone from HMX would read this and let us know if they will work...

I posted about this in the Ion drum thread last night, but when I tried my new kit with cymbals in lefty mode, the green cymbal was still mapped to the green input, which gave me both a snare drum pad and a snare drum cymbal. I still had to go to the red pad for red input including the crash at the end of fills.

I should have read these threads before I placed my order. Mine should be delivered any day now. Okay so here is my question. Can we make it always LEFTY. Meaning we change the game to play in lefty mode so the gems run down the screen as for a Lefty. On the ION drums, can we plug pads and cymbals into what we need to to make it work as we intend?

i dont know exactly how the Ions work, so i cant answer that, but the fact that the ion set cant use the red "crash" cymbal for a lefty makes it seem unlikely the madcatz cymbals will work either. what a huge oversight for HMX not to realize lefties play drums also....duh

It's in the options menu. Lefty-flip.

Another cymbal + lefty mode problem is that the blue and yellow pads and cymbals don't behave correctly in freestyle mode when Lefty is on.
blue pad = blue cymbal = hi-hat
yellow pad = yellow cymbal = tom
I don't have a 3rd cymbal hooked up, so I didn't check out whether the crash cymbal really stayed green. I'm disappointed but not surprised to learn that is broken too.
The blue and yellow must be patchable since they all trigger independantly in righty mode. I am hopeful that the crash cymbal port can be patched to read as red in lefty mode too.
But it is very annoying that this isn't in a 'known issues' sticky acknowledging the problem and saying whether they plan to fix it.

I'm a righty drummer, but I definitely see where you're coming from. It really couldn't have been that hard to have another connector for a red cymbal. That would have killed two birds with one stone. One problem being that some songs have the red pad as the high hat, and the other being the crash cymbal for lefty drummers.

I also play lefty and am frustrated by this problem, but let's face it: HMX doesn't bother with this forum any more. Months have passed since HMX has said anything here about any tech issues. In reality the forum should be renamed as "User-to-user Tech Support."

I don't see what lefty flip does for drumming, you use both your hands for drumming so what's the difference?

Wow, do you really not know that there are left-handed people out there? Go ahead and try lefty, and feel for yourself how awkward it can be to play "backwards".

It has more to do with dominance. I'm a lefty. My left foot is more dominant, and my left hand is more dominant. It is true that I play RB, and my real drum kit using both hands and feet, but long sustained rhythm feels more natural to me using left hand on hi-hat, and main kick on left foot. my fills roll from right to left. Just opposite of rightys. Sure I could teach myself to be right dominate but why? They have lefty mode for a reason. I'm not sure why the perifreals that HMX supports are not compadible.
Let me clarify. Its true that the main 4 pads that are the same in RB1 and RB2 are compadible with lefty mode. We are only talking about the cymbal add on that is new to RB2 and the ION kit are the issues. I think we all agree that this can be patched, I'm surprised we are not getting responses here from HMX and ION that they know about the issue and are working on a patch.

why will HMX not comment on any of these issues. the least they could say is that they know OF the issue and are looking into it, right now they will not even acknowledge the issue and haven't commented on any of the topics talking about this.

I highly doubt you'll get any response from Harmonix on this.

Just one question that isn't about lefties. Just one. Do you have to buy the whole drumkit ($300?) or can you just buy the cymbals without the drumkit?

You can order the cymbals individually for $50 but I'm not sure how you plan on mounting it and plugging it in. The ION kit has its own brain that is also the RB controller. So you can buy additional cymbals to plug in even if it means using splitters because you wanted 20 crash cymbals for instance. I don't see how this would work if you only had something like the RB1 drum kit and wanted to add cymbals. How would you plug them in?
On the other side of it. I have a Roland drum kit. I could add the ION pads and cymbals to my kit and play, but I need the ION controller to play the kit with RB.
The add on cymbal comes with the cymbal, 1/4 male to male cable, and mounting hardware that allows you to mount it on a standard electronic drum kit like the one that comes with the ION. They are not on stands.

I cant understand why HMX is just ignoring the issue, this is really pushing me towards getting World Tour and supporting that platform. at least on their set i can use some kind of cymbals. i just wish HMX would make an effort, they have to know this issue exists.

Hope you get a response lads, your problem doesn't affect me as such, but i understand that its a problem for left hand people, definatly should be someone from harmonix on here to help out, although posting on a few other Electronic Arts forums i wouldn't be surprised if they never respond.

A simple "we're looking into it" from HMX, like they respond with other problems of even less of a problem than this, would be suffice.

yea, this seems like a pretty big problem if left handed drummers can't use the ION kit as well as the new cymbals when they come out. it is strange that HMX is just staying silent.
