View Full Version : Why wouldn't RB guitar, at the very least, work with GH2?

Seems silly that the rock band guitar, at the very least, would work with guitar hero 2 for xbox...

... they are both made by harmonix.... what's the deal?

Can we expect an update to guitar hero 2 possibly?

Kind of sleezy that it wont work with GH3 though, yet harmonix was willing to let their guitar work with RB.... i purposely didn't buy a bundle for GH3 because I thought the RB guitar would work, but now i'm just not going to buy a secopnd guitar for GH3 period because they don't deserve my money for "being like that"

so back to my original question, why no RB guitar on GH2?

ROFL. RedOctane has done everything possible to block the RB guitar being used with GH3. The odds of them releasing some sort of update through any medium to allow it to work with GH2 are too low to consider calculating.

It could be that the new features included in the strat (smaller solo frets, effects switch) somehow made it incompatible with GH2.

oh... it never occurred to me that they no longer own the "rights" to rock band 1 and 2.... or the brand at all...

I figured they had full control over those two games, and just GH3 was by activision and any new games that came out.

Simple. Red Octane/Activision don't want other companies' guitars to work on their game. They want every customer to buy at least two proprietary controllers.

Keep in mind that Red Octane is around today because it makes money of of creating 3rd party peripherals for other company's systems and games.

Spiffy, huh?

Money, it's a crime! I still agree with the original poster ... if GH2 used an open standard and RB is using an open standard, then why shouldn't it work? Ohh well ...

Because GH2...didn't...use an open standard? Atleast not the PS2 version. RO designed the game so that the several 3rd party controllers created for GH1 would not work with GH2.

This is the reason why the PS2-to-PS3 USB converters all you to play GH1 perfectly on the PS3, but you can only use the guitar on menus for GH2 (much like the problem using the GH3 Les Paul in RB).

Didn't know that ... I thought it did. I'm not that smart sometimes. GH3 will be the last time RO gets my money though. Hell, the PS3 LP isn't even backwards compatible...what kind of crap is that?

I agree, that is quite craptastic. I was ready to pick up GHIII just to have a bass guitar and a way to play GH1 and 2 properly on my PS3. Activision/RO dropped the ball on that one.

That's fine though, HMX is much more deserving of my cash. I can put that $99 toward DLC =]

GH 2 will be the last time RO gets my money. ...:D

Anyway, yeah, it really sucks you can't use the Strat in GHII. I'd love to play Jordan with those solo buttons. ;)

Out of curiosity, does this mean the Fender MIGHT work with the original Guitar Hero if you stick that in the PS3?

Possibly for GH1. But that is a big maybe.

I'm wondering about the likelihood since apparently the USB PS2 controller adapters WILL work with GHI on the PS3 according to some reports, so if that means that GHI still uses these open standards, then assuming the Strat does as well, logic dictates there should be compatibility.

But I guess we'll find out in a few hours...

Not much logic has been running around lately for PS3 guitars.

The tragedy of this is, this isn't even a joke.

I posted this question yesterday, and I'm still wondering too.

Has anyone actually tried it? It's been confirmed all over the place that the RB guitar won't work in GHIII, but it's never been confirmed that it won't work in II on the 360 (it was posted on Wiki that it won't work, but the sources they used never said this).

So, besides random meaningless conjecture, has anyone actually tried?

One of the posters here that managed to get Rock Band early for the PS3 did confirm in another thread that the Strat will not work with Guitar Hero II.

Yes, but GHII on PS3 was not a native title. I guess I should have been clearer. Has anyone tried on 360, where both RB and GHII are native titles?
