I've been watching game vids on youTube, and some of those solos look pretty challenging.

So when you use the solo buttons, do you have to strum at all? Just the first note? Whenever you mess up? How does it work, exactly?

No strumming if using solo buttons during solos...

They're designed to simulate tapping on a real guitar, I believe.

So no, during a guitar solo (when the on-screen fret board turns blue) all you have to do is tap the fret, no strumming required at all.

The solo frets are much smaller and it will take some getting used to to transition your hand between the normal frets and the solos.

If you aren't playing a solo section, you can still use them but you do have to strum. In the solo sections, they act kinda like playing with a standard controller in GH, i.e. you press the button and it registers as both fretting that color and strumming. If you mess up you don't have to strum again with the strum bar (unlike GH).

I'm not sure whether you have to press the button again during repeated notes, but I would imagine that you do.
