Just like everyone else I made my way to my local game store on the morning of the 14th, picked up my copy of Rock Band 2 and hurried home to play it. I was not disappointed in the least at the content within the game or the great Tour mode being able to play online.
However, after only just a couple days of play I began experiencing screen lockups to where I could not even access the Xbox 360 Dashboard as well as horrible cases of Artifacting/Glitching in the Band member select screen and even during play, resorting to having to shut down the entire system and turn it back on. I thought perhaps it had something to do with my HDD so I disconnected it as well as my other peripherals, signed in with one guitar (original Rock Band Fender Stratocaster) selected Quickplay mode and have been experiencing the same thing. I even went so far as to return my copy of RB 2 I believed defective for a brand new one, brought it home with much hope only to have the same issues happen not even 2 minutes into the game out of the main menu!
My Xbox 360 is in a well ventilated and clean environment where I make sure the vents are clear and air flow is not restricted, so that is not the reason for these random problems that have just recently surfaced.
Microsoft Tech Support says it is not an issue with my Xbox as I can play Call of Duty 4, GH III and all my other games with not even a hiccup. I went as far to call EA Tech Support, they wanted to ship me another copy of the game as they had no idea what I was talking about.
I'm not sure if it's me, but if anyone else is having these issues, please help! My friends and I enjoy the Rock Band brand a lot and would like to continue to play Rock Band 2 if there is any proposed fix or a patch in the near future.
Hopefully this makes the community aware of some of the other symptoms going on with this game, I have not however experienced losing any created characters/bands or bands being signed into different XBL accounts like many others. I guess I'm lucky, but right now RB 2 is completely unplayable and is a $60 placeholder in my game library...

Yeah, me and my roommate just experienced the same problem. We were playing the 21st century marathon (7 songs) and after finished the set - BAM system freeze... we were like "really?!" "really?!" So its definently a glitch!
Lookin at you Harmonix (btw the X-box works just dandy)

bump, please someone from Tech Support explain what is happening with the issues and how they intend to be fixed in the near future or I will be returning RB 2 for a down payment on GH: World Tour

alright, just an update, there might be something with the unlocking of songs or something in progression that is causing these freeze ups so I'm thinking today I will be cleaning out all my RB 2 saved games/characters/tours and starting fresh. Will keep you all posted on how this turns out

Another update because I happen to be in such a jovial mood since recent events, thinking perhaps there is something wrong with my disc I went ahead and checked it to discover that the 360 itself decided to carve a perfect circle into the disc. My Xbox has never moved so it is does not have anything to do with being bumped or jostled. Of course when i call the game stores to see if anyone else in the area is having any problems, they of course say there have been no complaints, but from what i see on this board, perhaps HMX rushed the game a bit too much and released a defective product. I'm beyond pissed off at the moment and have pretty much given up at this point. Thank god we have another music game in a month or so, because no one is addressing any issues and its just pissing us all off.
Thanks Harmonix, can I have my $60 back now?

1) Artifacts, random freezes, and such are symptoms of your system overheating.
2) DVD's are pretty standardized now. The fact that your 360 etched a circle into it (a common issue with 360's when they are stood vertically) is no fault of the disc.

I seem to be having the same problem. Went to the gamestop sunday, with the wife and my 3 year old daughter. Picked up the game hurried home and started up our band again. everything was going great until yesterday when the game froze. Restarted the system as i could not access the dashboard. Froze againg durring title screen, then durring difficulty selection. ect.
My 360 in vented well, and COD4, GTA4, Force unleased, ect all work fine. I checked all of my games as i have a ton, check my played games. I first though "crap, my 360's dying..." but no. It is only Rock band 2.
I hope someone is onto this thread and a patch is in the works. My family loves Rocking out and its one of the few things wee all do together. We transfered all songs from RB1 to the drive, and have downloaded tons of songs. I would hate to have to wander over to the dark side..GUITAR HERO 4!

I have a new thread going on this issue but I thought I would post here...the freezing on menus and not getting any further is my issue as well. But I discovered, it only does this when Im signed in on my profile connected to xbox live. I created new profiles (or just dont sign in at all on quickplay) and the freezing no longer happens. For the moment, it sucks because I cant play to get my achievments and stats on xbox live but at least Im back to playing for now until hopefully a fix comes through for this issue.
