all that remains is definatly not death metal, its very much metalcore
HMX should put on some slayer so they know what DM is

Get over it.
Slayer is Thrash not Death so you obviously don't know what death metal is yourself.

Yeah, it sounded good til you got to the second line.
All That Remains is Metalcore, while Slayer is definitely Thrash. We have not gotten any Death Metal yet.

I completely disagree with the whole idea of sub-genres, it just makes stuff more confusing.
I think it should just be Metal, Rock and Alternative.

I kind of like it. It makes everything more organized.
Er... well, it would... if people actually took a little time to figure out how to distinguish between genres.
Sadly, though, we have people who think Thrash is Death Metal and Pop Punk is Emo, and whatnot...

All that Remains clearly has death metal elements - with the vocals and all.
I would definately agree with needing some Slayer in the game though. How about Seasons in the Abyss as a full album download?

No they don't... they have metalcore elements... because they're metalcore.
Plus, if they had any Death elements, we would be able to call them Deathcore, seeing as they would be a mix of Death and Metalcore... However, they're not, so we can't.

Fine, whatever.
Just bring on Seasons in the Abyss.

Abnormality and At the Gates? ;)

Those aren't death metal vocals, those are metalcore vocals (a mixture of thrash and hardcore screams). I fail to see any Death Metal elements at all. All That Remains is pretty pure up metalcore.

I've never listened to At The Gates. I'll go do that in a sec. Perhaps I'll stand corrected on that point.
However, Abnormality is a Deathcore band. Not Death Metal.

i disagree.
while there's obviously a smidget of hardcore influence (well, more of a grindcore influence), i hear little to no resemblance to other deathcore bands.
based on their influences, i'd figure they'd agree.

I dunno. They seem to have a pretty solid Deathcore sound.
In any case, though, I would not call them Death Metal.

it's one of those terms i've seen used by individuals, but didn't realize it was accepted as a genre by many. maybe i underestimated...
anyhow, some good bands on the wikipedia page... i'm a longtime fan of assuck, nasum, and CODC.

give me a break i had to type this in a minute and slayer is death thrash, so i picked that as an example cuz i figured there whould be less flaming
any band that "sings" ultimately cancleds out the fact that they screamed or growled, thereby excluding it from any death metal catagory
i could have said obituary, or aborted, or necrophagist, or abysmal dawn or (new) job for a cowboy
i picked the one even non metalheads knew...

All That Remains is Melodic Metalcore, and I'm sticking to my guns on the fact that Abnormality is Deathcore. There's really nothing Melodic about Visions.
Not sure who we're thinking is Melodic Death Metal, though...

Do you guys not see how comical this whole topic is? Death metal, deathcore, metalcore, jesus. With the possible exception of techno, metal is the only music style who's fans feel the need to put every single band into their own category.

ahem, i believe you meant to say "electronic music", of which techno is a part of...

That is exactly what I'm talking about, thanks for pointing it out ;). I'm well aware that techno is a subgenre but I was using my personal slang, which tends to call electronic music techno even when it's not.

That's Life Metal (get it? Opposite of that satanic death metal? Those christian rockers are so clever. j/k I kinda like Tourniquet)
That being said, we need Cannibal Corpse just for the sheer WTF factor it would draw from non metal freaks. Not that they have many songs that could pass a Teen rating (maybe Staring Through The Eyes of Dead?). Death, the preminate Death Metal band, also needs love. The Philosopher would be perfect.

That would be awful... and probably make me hate Twisted Sister even more than I already do...

Name one thing that Abnormality has in common with Hardcore/or grindcore. Abnormality is pure DeathMetal. Just because it has blast beats sorry but Death metal has those as well.

You are kidding me right of course I have. Death Metal uses blast beats just not as much as Grindcore. There are many different things in grindcore than just blast beats.

Ok even then name one thing they have in common with metalcore. It better not be because they have a breakdown because that is not a metalcore breakdown. Way to fast for that plus the drummer doesnt ride the cymbal as much as a metalcore band does.

id say abnormality is Deathgrind
not deathcore because they dont have ANY hooks
deathcore is deathmetal with hooks and mega heavy breakdowns
abnormality changes time alot, has a split second breakdown and the drummer milks the snare, which is common in grindcore and death metal but not very much in deathcore and the vocals arent really deathcore either, more like blackened death metal, or high death metal shrieks.
My final verdict is Deathgrind
and anyone who likes abnormality might also like apostle of perversion, pig destroyer, Leng t'che, and napalm death.
