Hey, does anyone have a recommendation on microphone stands? I want to be able to play guitar or drum and sing...

A lot of people are buying mic stands. If you really want to go ahead but I honsetly in my opinion think it is a waste.
Anyways I belive there are brands of mic stands that are specificially "Rock Band" labeled.

I don't have a specific recommendation, but if you want to drum and sing you'll need a boom stand most likely. You can rock out much better with a straight stand, but the boom is probably better suited for what you want to do.

I want one so I can play guitar and sing. I'm cheap for something as useless as that though and the cheapest I can find them are $20, I'd get one for 10 tops.

A cheap one, especially since it sounds like you bought the bundle!

Or get a maid to hold it up to your mouth....;)

Musician's Friend had one for $4.99 a couple weeks ago, but a couple days after I first saw it, it was out of stock. Not sure what shipping would run, but I imagine not too much, and you could probably keep the total under $10.

I figure if I get a mic stand it should have folding legs instead of the lead-brick base. Think it should be portable.

If you look on the rockband website under "game information" / "microphone" there is a label on the end of the short video that says Microphone stand also available. Has anyone seen it? Sure wasn't in the $169 SE box and don't see one on the website anywhere.

Honestly it should be here: http://www.rockbandstore.com/index.php?v=rbs_rock_the_game_game_and_gear&pagemax=all
But I think I will be getting:
Musicians Gear Tripod Base Mic Stand ($12.99)
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Musicians-Gear-Tripod-Base-Mic-Stand-451039-i1323839.gc
There's a solid base version at the same price
Musicians Gear Heavy Duty Basic Mic Clip ($2.99)

Mike Caddy Mic Stand CD and Drink Tray ($19.99)

Whatever stand you buy, make sure you get a wireless mic clip. This is because the RB mic is wider than regular mics that slide in a regular clip. Wireless mics are fatter and the clips for wireless mics are flexable. I have done this already. Although its rather hard to watch the notes and try to read the vocal bar to a song you don't know at the same time.

Obviously sizing is an issue but I would be hesitant to buy a wireless mic clip blindly because it might have a place for the cord if it's an O shape and not a C shape.
I'll bring the silly mic to the store and see which ones physically fit.

Hey guys, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's been wanting to do this. Actually, this is exactly what you need, and will cost you less than $20. This is probably the cheapest way to go, but it should be sufficient for a video game.
Mic Stand with Fixed Boom ($14.99)
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Musicians-Friend-Tripod-Mic-Stand-with-Fixed-Boom?sku=450827
with THIS clip
Mic Clip ($3.99)

The beauty of this mic clip is it will fit the mic perfectly since it's just a clamp. It works beautifully with mine. I hope this helps you guys out.

I am pretty amazed at how so cheap a lot of these mic stands, drum sticks, thrones, guitar stands, bags, cases, straps, etc, etc, etc are.
My Christmas list is about a dozen $12-20 items related to RB. It's pretty pricey but dang I want that RB-official drum carry bag too. A generic one simply would be a poor substitute >.>

These things are available everywhere...just Google it. Got mine for $19 including a clip -- has tripod legs so it's very portable.

bought the one form musicans friends for 29.99 and got a boom stand mic and clip all with shipping for under 40.00 bucks. They also have a cheaper one for 19.99. It took mine about 4 days to get it. ordered on Sat got it on Wed. Also dont forget to order extra drum sticks ( youll need these if you break a stick at 2 in the morning and cant get some till the next day. what a bummmer) and a drum throne if you dont have a good stool to sit on.:D:eek:

I suggest you go with a boom stand over a mic stand. We are glad we dropped a couple extra bucks for a boom stand as it's much more versitile.

Boom stands don't give you the "gripping the mic stand as you sing" experience.
BTW - Guitar Center is having a huge Black Friday sale. They have some really nice guitar stands for $6 and super-low prices on mic stands and drum thrones as well.
I hate fighting the crowds, so I dropped $70 yesterday fleshing out my Rock Band party kit. My wife was shaking her head until she saw the complete setup. It completely looks like a band practice space now which just adds to the cool factor of the game.
I'm just bummed that my first party is today and I have to take my GH guitars there. Hopefully, my replacement Fender will arrive soon.

Oh man, so many near-free alternatives for mic stands laying around the house...
A stack of books with duct tape at the top to tie down the mic works well as does a music stand with the same tape as well. Further, large speakers on top of a table, works wonders.
However, making your own guitar stand out of wood and various metal scraps is very, very easy that allows you to manufacture one at an extremely cheap price, get the satisfaction that you did something, and have it set at the exact height you want. You can even have an adjustable angle, much like a boom, if you're good.
What I'll be doing, since I have a lot of time this Christmas, is to take two 2 by 4's, a metal hinge, and a hand full of nuts and bolts, to make my own mic stand just for the game (also because I need a mic stand for at-home recording).
What I'll be doing is taking one of the 2 by 4's and cutting it into half, and then take one of the halves and cut it into 3 pieces for the stands. Then, I'll take the other half and use it for the top half of my mic stand.
Then, I'll, probably, measure how much max-height I want on my stand to be and cut the next 2 by 4 by that much. I'll attach a hinge and then use the left-overs for a tie. The tie will, probably have a twisty metal bit that adjusts the distance between the two halves of the tie to make sure I get the size right regardless of what mic I use. Having it perfectly round wont be an issue as I'll be using some left-over foam padding to mimic the give and take that most ties have.
I suspect I'll pay about $10 bucks on this and it'll last me longer than I'll use it =P.

Not sure what you mean as a boom stand can also adjust to straight vertical for singing as you mentioned.
Seems alot more flexible to have a boom. JMHO, your mileage may vary.

...or any other instrument seller. Youre not using it onstage, so there will be limited abuse and youll get plenty of mileage out of it. When I play live, for real, I am a HUGE breaker of stuff; Ive broken stands, killed monitors, toppled amps and drumsets, even knocked some of my teeth out once (dont ask, it was completely stupid, but really funny...and bloody in a real cool way...nothing like bleeding onstage to get a crowd going); when youre in your living room and bedroom, I doubt youll be rocking out so hard that youre destroying everything.

Yeah, I've had my share of broken equipment. One club I played at had a super-low fan above where I was standing. You can only imagine my horror when I went to take my guitar off and my headstock got knocked clean off.

Cheers to your ingenuity! But a mic stand costs $12.99, clip another $1.99 HMMTHEREISNOSTICKINGTONGUEOTUSMILEY
I also have no idea if I'll get a boom or straight mic stand either.

Go used. Pawn shops, craigslist, classified ads, whatever. Bug musician buddies for their cast-offs. You might even find someone willing to give you one just to get it out of their garage/attic/basement.
